Poor Condition.

We have rented other properties from this owner with excellent results. I wish I could report the same with this property.

Unfortunately, I can't.

This property was not clean by any definition when we arrived. There was a strong urine order throughout. There was a large smeared blotch/stain of something on the stairs...Dark stain. There was an empty Vodka bottle in the downstairs bedroom where my grandchildren were to sleep. All three lights over the main kitchen island were burned out. I replaced all three at my cost to get essential light into the kitchen. The dining room chandelier was covered in spider webs as was many other areas of the house. The main windows facing the lake are filled with water vapor as the seals are broken greatly deminishing the beautiful lake views. The deck railing was covered in webs and spiders to the extent we could not let the grandchildren play on the deck. The stairs had an owner provided wooden gate to protect children from falling down stairs, which was broken and unusable. I spent an hour of my time getting it to a usable condition for our visit. Upon bringing all of this to the owners attention, he agreed to send his cleaning person by and refund us one days rent for accommodation. The cleaning person was obviously not interested in dealing with any of these issues, but did clean the smear of ? of the stairs, the cobwebs off the upstairs lights, windows, etc. and on the deck. She looked at the broken gate and said she would return with a new one. We never saw her again. Most disappointing was the failure of the owner to credit one night as he agreed to and said he would do and never did, even after multiple reminders of his promise. As a matter of fact, he never returned any further emails.

As I said at the beginning of this review, we have rented from this owner several times with largely excellent results, but not this time. If he had followed through as he promised I would not have written this review. If anyone doubts any information, I have photos I would be happy to provide.

Resposta do proprietário: Dear future guests; Please consider all guest reviews and make your own judgement. This is the second home we have rented to this particular guest with similar results. We will no longer be renting to him as there seems to be a pattern of repeated attempts to extricate rental funds back from us. Upon receiving this guests' call, we had the cleaner go back in first thing in the morning to address his concerns and remove any "new" spider webs. Spiders have been abundant this past year and they restring their webs as soon as we clean them. Also, since this guests' stay in August, a new cleaning person has been hired to clean this rental property. The "broken" wooden gate is still NOT BROKEN and we are still using it. This older individual did not know how to operate it which was the only conclusion we could come to. Nonetheless, after reading the review, the new home owners stated that they will purchase another childproof gate just to err on the side of caution. We leave numerous extra light bulbs in the cabinet above the double oven along with numerous extra batteries. A quick phone call to us can point that out and if the correct ones aren't there we can make arrangements to get replacements quickly by providing access to the locked owners closet (we have an extra key in another lock box on the home for those occasions). The home changed ownership as of October 24th, 2016 and the new owners have hired a window contractor to replace the front windows where the seals had recently failed. There is no longer an odor in the home, the odor was a result of a dried out p-trap that the cleaner fixed by pouring a cup of water into the laundry room floor drain (we live in a dry climate and the water in the p-trap evaporates if left alone during dry summer months) Solution is to pour a cup of water into the p-trap in the garage laundry room. This was pointed out to the guest and done by the cleaner. The guest was asked to send over his mailing address for a reimbursement and never did and was never heard from again so perhaps he is sending his emails to the wrong place as we have not received a single additional correspondence since asking for his mailing address. Finally, this person should not allow their grand children to drink Vodka."

Rustic cabin good for large or multiple families

We enjoyed a relaxing stay at the cabin in mid-October. The view was excellent and was exactly as advertised. We enjoyed the large deck and quiet surroundings. It is in a great location if you are interested in spending time in Grand Lake or Rocky Mountain National Park.

I would recommend this to large or multiple families as the home is large and there is good separation between the bedrooms. I would give the property a 3.5 or 4 just due to some deferred maintenance and housekeeping issues.

On a side note, if you are visiting Grand Lake in the off season make sure to stock up on groceries ahead of time. Many of the restaurants were closed and the (very small) grocery store closed at 5PM each day.

Amazing Home

Thank you for allowing us to rent your amazing home, the accommodations were great with all the comforts of home. The view from the deck was breath taking every day. The proximity to the wonderful town of Grand Lake and to beautiful scenic drives and hiking is perfect.

Incredible View, Lots of Room

My daughter was married in Granby, so some of my siblings, girlfriends and I (MOB) rented Joe's property. The location and view was outstanding! We had tons of room for nine people (three couples and three singles), and loved sitting on the deck looking out over the lake (although the deck chairs are too low to take advantage of the view due to the deck railing).

We had a few complaints which Joe was very open to hearing and will address going forward. His cleaning crew did the basics well, but there were some cobwebs on light fixtures, and some carpet areas were not cleaned well. The bedding and bathrooms were very clean, however, which was the most important to us. Good cleaning crews are difficult to find and keep in those areas.

Other wedding guests stayed at surrounding properties which were much newer and had significantly nicer furnishings, but none could compete with our view. So if you don't mind a property that is a bit older and not as upscale, this one is great. We had a wonderful time!

Driveway is steep, so beware. I'm sure it could be a bear in the winter.

Awesome place to take a family retreat!

Loved this home! Extremely warm and comfortable. It felt like 'home' the moment we arrived. The view off the decks is, by itself, worth the price of the rental. The master bedroom allowed my wife and I totally privacy when our adult children and grandchildren were being highly 'active'. The kitchen is well stocked with all the necessities and there are plenty of fresh linens for all the beds. You can't go wrong renting this charming lake home!

Excellent Family Experience

This was our first entire family "destination" vacation. It was important to my wife and me that we find a place with beautiful scenery, a relaxing atmosphere, and a where our 4 young grandchildren would not be bored. The Penta's home fit the bill perfectly for us. There being 7 adults and 4 children, I was a little worried about us bumping into each other, but I was so wrong! Plenty of space for everyone inside and out. The view of the night sky from the porch was amazing. I hadn't seen the milky way in years. Access to Rocky Mountain National Park was a short 10-15 minute drive from the house. Shopping, a beach, and boat rentals were only a 5 minute drive away. The owner, Joe Penta was extremely easy to work with, and went out of his way to accommodate our various personal schedules when booking the house far in advance! I can't thank him enough for helping us in making this family trip a reality! I would highly recommend this location for anyone seeking a relaxing and fulfilling experience!
