We enjoyed our stay in this very cute, cozy cabin in the Black Hills. The cabin sits right by Yellow Creek, which we enjoyed sitting on the back deck and having the windows open at night to hear the trickle of the creek. Plus lots of wild life! Also, we like to cut cost by bringing our own food and the kitchen ammenities worked for us (coffee maker, refridgerator, microwave, utensils, plates, etc). There isn't a charcoal grill as mentioned in another post, but there was an electric type grill that worked fine (note there is not an oven). If you don't want to cook, the cabin is just a short drive to Deadwood and Lead which have some great places to eat. We also enjoyed meeting the owners and their horses, donkey, cat and dog. Wonderful, welcoming folks! Just one downfall, no wifi which means poor cell service. Not necessarily a bad thing as you can really disconnect and enjoy some time with your loved one! Thank you for allowing us to be a guest at Yellow Creek Cabin!
This was a really nice little cabin. Location was great, very close to Deadwood. Secluded, we saw deer every night. Cabin was well stocked except for a stove, however, they had a two-burner hot plate that worked fine. My little dog was very content there. Nice and quiet but easy to get to town.
Our family decided to book the cabin based on serenity and excellent reviews for this secluded cabin by the creek for our Black Hills vacation. We love the location and privacy of the creek and woods. Overall, we would like to share the cleanliness and maintenance issues with others.
-location and serenity of the creek and woods
-1st 30 minutes using vacuum cleaner from closet
-dead insects in corners and window sills
-mice droppings and chewed through beddings in closet (was brought to owners attention with no immediate remediation)
-leaking kitchen plumbing (also brought to owner's attention with no response)
-dirt and dust that has collected over some time
-loose tiles in kitchen
-broken patio tables
-dirty outdoor chairs
-loose toilet seat (officially fixed with our own tools for future visitors)
-overgrown vegetation on exterior (back patio invited more insects - wasn't able to enjoy)
-door issues (front door sticks, bathroom doors NOT plumbed)
We believe that with some work, the cabin can once again return to its full potential that we expected based on earlier reviews. We would choose a different options on the next visit.
My husband and I decided to go here for a second time. The first time was over a year ago just to get away. This visit was to celebrate our anniversary. The cabin is a great place to use as a base to go do things or to just hang out and relax. It's located down the road from Lewey's, which makes terrific burgers. It's also not too far from Cheyenne Crossing, which makes a ridiculously good breakfast! Paddy O'Neils in Deadwood has a great menu. Our favorite is the kettle chips with ranch dressing.
The bed is more of a double and definitely not a queen. We like sleeping on a queen, so it's just a bit smaller. The cabin does not have Wi-Fi, which wasn't as big of a deal the first time we went there, but we really wish it was there this time so we could have used Netflix to watch a few movies on our iPad. I know, we were ther to unplug! We did watch one of the many available movies they had there and also purchased one to watch.
The cabin is very private. The creek running behind the cabin was high due to all of the rain we've had, which was nice to listen to while sleeping at night. This is a very peaceful and relaxing cabin. It's definitely a place to get away from it all. You feel like you are completely unplugged, but you're actually only a few minutes from town. Our next visit will include a bicycle ride down the Mickelson Trail.
We visited Devil's Tower, which was about an hour and a half drive. If you go to Devil's Tower, make sure to go to the right on the 2.8 mile trail that way you are going downhill in the sun and uphill in the shade of the trees.
My husband and I like to find places that are quiet and relaxing after sightseeing during the day. This place caught our eye and we were not disappointed. The owners live just down the road and are very welcoming. We would definitely stay here again.
A very comfortable, clean and well maintained Cabin in a fantastic setting. Its outside George Foreman electric grill was very handy. There was a good size fridge and the heaters were also good for those stays in colder weather. The owners introduced themselves and were very friendly and informative. We have recommended the property to friends.
