Hacienda Punta Indio is the perfect Costa Rican retreat/adventure vacation! Here you can enjoy comfortable accommodations and your own private infinity-edge pool while immersing yourself in a spectacular jungle setting. The spacious 5-bedroom house and 30-foot salt-water pool is perfect for multiple families, family reunions, or even a nature/yoga retreat.
The house is all on one level - it has 5 bedroom/bathroom suites, a kitchen, living room, dining room, laundry room, and even an air-conditioned walk-in pantry. With a total of 6 bathrooms, your group will have more than enough privacy. This house is located up on a hillside overlooking the bay of Samara and is accessible on all-paved-roads; there is no need for a 4x4. A regular car is fine. The quiet end of Samara beach (near Hideaway Hotel) is a 10-minute walk.
Each of the 5 bedroom suites has an en-suite bathroom, a king-size bed, remote-controlled air conditioning, two bedside tables with reading lamps, plenty of storage space. In addition, each bedroom suite has its own private front door (with its own key). All bedrooms (except the largest one) have a back door that opens up onto a shaded deck area - perfect for enjoying the warm morning sunshine and lush green views of the mango grove. The pool is especially refreshing because it contains salt-water and only a tiny amount of chlorine, resulting in almost zero chlorine smell. It is very easy to spend hours just relaxing in the pool (from sun-up to sun-down) and enjoy watching the incoming and outgoing tides of beautiful Samara Bay, the greenery in the surrounding hillsides, and the evening lights along Samara's beachfront.
The house sits in the center of a large peninsula called Punta Indio; this peninsula divides the two horseshoe-shaped beaches of Carrillo and Samara, two of Costa Rica's favourite beaches. From the pool you can see all of Samara Beach but other views are seen throughout the property: north towards the town of Samara, south overlooking the open ocean, west to the small island of Isla Chora (where the kayaks head out in the morning) nad east to gorgeous palm-lined Playa Carrillo.
So go ahead and let the kids make noise and enjoy having NO neigbours nearby! Relax in your own private infinity-edge pool, go for morning nature walks throughout the property, and explore the 3 beaches: Samara, Carrillo, or Bahia Media Luna, a private beach at the north side of the peninsula. All this, while still being an 8-10 minute drive from Samara's town-center.
Whether you have spent the day at the beach or in town, it is a real treat to return to the comforts of the Hacienda, its pool, and its complete privacy. The kitchen is fully outfitted for gourmet meals and the outdoor grill makes it very easy to enjoy dining al fresco. A private chef is available, ask for details.
Please note that this is not 5-star accommodation. The house was designed to be very comfortable and functional. Its peaceful, natural surroundings are well suited to those on a yoga retreat, nature photographers, bird-watchers, people seeking an out-of-the-way spot who like to explore on their own or a group who is looking for something different.
While the house does not have central air-conditioning, each bedroom has remote controlled air-conditioning and the living room/dining rooms have overhead ceiling fans. These, along with 3 sets of sliding wooden doors, create good air-flow. When these wooden doors are open, the living space is literally doubled and the refreshing outside ocean breezes can flow through.
Hacienda Punta Indio is a great place for young families to hang out in. Its large covered porch provides plenty of shade throughout the day and its very large dining room is centrally located, with plenty of seating. Comfy sofas, several lounge chairs and hammocks all provide good places for book-lovers. One of the many benefits is that because there are no houses nearby, the sky is dark enough for great stargazing.
Because of the huge property size, there is an opportunity to see a lot of wildlife here. Monkeys are always somewhere on the property - either in trees by the carport, in the jungle below the pool and other times in the mango grove along the back of the house. Iguanas are frequently seen scooting into culverts near the carport. And at night, you will hear and see small owls. It is truly a nature-lover's paradise. Because of the property's higher elevation, there are noticeably fewer mosquitoes here than down at beach-level restaurants in the evening.
A car is recommended, but not necessary. Taxis are plentiful, reliable and inexpensive. Ask me for a list of our favourite taxi drivers.
Pura Vida!
