Compras & More: gosta de fazer compras?
We have been staying at this property for four months while our house here is being remodeled. We have been very fortunate that this place was available for as long as we needed. The owners have gone over and above to assist us with invaluable information that we needed to get situated in our new country. This is a beautiful place with lots of space for a big group. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The palapa area is wonderful and has a grilling area. It has a safe and secure walled area to park your car and we were fortunate to be able to keep our trailer here in a safe place. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here even though we were not on vacation it sure felt like it. We would highly recommend this property.
This is the second time that we spend a week at Vila del Sol. This is a very beautiful place, very suitable for kids. My kids are under 5 years old and really enjoyed. We loved the pool and the sunsets. It is highly recommended because it is very safe and the amenities are very useful.
We stayed for 2 weeks in this lovely Casita. The two-story Casita is on the same property where the owners live. They are available for any issues that may arise. George was there for anything we needed and was a great source of information. Marla has put together a very informing book about the area and the customs, which helped immensely. Marla and George were very helpful during our stay.
The rooms are quite spacious, especially the upstairs master bedroom. Break and Enters seems to be an issue in the area but we felt quite secure as the property is gated and the owners have two dogs which would prevent any intruders.
A car is a must if staying here as it is a fair distance to get to restaurants and stores. There is a good supermarket in Progresso that is easy to get to and provides all you need for your stay. Las Dunas Restaurant is very close and you can get a good meal there and they have entertainment some nights. Lizard Joe's was great for BBQ ribs and wonderful entertainment. We enjoyed great entertainment at El Bull Pen but never ate there. In Progresso, the Bar Lovento is a big expat hangout where you will meet tons of Canadians and Americans and you can get a good meal. Merida was a wonderful surprise for us, with lots of shopping, culture, and history. A must see if you are in the area. Uxmal ruins were a fair distance, but worth the trip if ruins interest you. We didn't make it to any of the cenotes but will have to do that on our next visit.
The lovely private pool is right outside your door and a great place to sit and relax, suntan, and read a book. I didn't see many people out on the beaches like you would at a resort area, but you can walk for miles along the beaches with tons (literally) of shells to be found. Winter seems to be the low season in that area. We met lots of Canadian and American expats who spend the winter months in Chelem, Progresso, Chiburna and Chixchilub.
The only things that would have made our stay more comfortable would be cable/satellite TV, a small safe, and access to bicycles to explore the area.
What to bring? The area is pretty laid back, shorts and t-shirts seem to be the norm, even at the restaurants. Ladies a few sundresses will be all that's needed, flip/flops and sandals and perhaps a pair of walking shoes for the ruins. There is a washer/dryer in the unit, which helps for long stays.
This would be a great place for 1 or 2 couples or a family.
We just spent a lovely week at via Del Sol. Marla, George and Kelton were all very helpful and kind. Their two dogs were great company and even tagged along for our walks. We felt very relaxed and secure while inside and outside of the compound. Adjacent to the casita are the quarters for the live in caretakers, so the property is very well maintained and monitored. The home is very secure, clean and well equipped. Air conditioning was available but never necessary. Internet was fast and reliable. Water was hot and had great pressure. We loved sleeping with the sounds of the gulf and can't wait to return to the area. What a great location. Just far enough away from town to avoid all the excess noise but close enough to zip in for whatever you might need. Close to progreso, merida and many local attractions. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!
My family of 4 (+ my brother for a few days) stayed in the home for 8 days. Even before we arrived, Marla went out of her way to share information about the local area with us which made our time there better. From the moment we arrived, the owners went out of their way to make us comfortable and to help us. I can't say enough about how gracious they are. The owner's home is on the same lot and were always there to help or answer questions when we needed something. The home was exactly as described on VBRO and was clean when we arrived. If you want a relaxing time at the beach, this would be an ideal place.
The only real drawback of the home is the location if you don't have a car. It is a couple miles to Chelem town, about 10 to Progreso and about 35 to Merida. We had a car so it was no issue for us. But if you arrive without a car and plan to do a lot of exploring, it might pose a challenge. There are combis that run on the main road but walking to town and back to buy groceries would not be recommended.
We enjoyed our stay in Chelem. The house, located on a quiet beachfront, had everything we needed and the host was very accommodating. The description provided is basically accurate, but it should be made clear that the village of Chelem — which has several restaurants, a decent fruit and vegetable market, and fresh fish and seafood sellers — is a good half-hour's walk away, or a short ride by colectivo. There are also a couple of good restaurants in nearby Chuburna Puerto, which can be reached by colectivo. Our host was kind enough to give us rides to Progreso and to the ruins at Dzibilchaltun, which helped a lot, and to lend us videos from her collection.
