We rented this house for 6 months and are so grateful to the owner, Tracy and the Yucatan Living management staff for going above and beyond to make sure that we had all we needed to have a great experience during our stay in Merida. We spent most of our days just hanging out at the house relaxing and dipping in the pool surrounded by the breathtaking beautiful backyard. We thoroughly enjoyed shopping and eating just around the corner at the local market and restaurants in Chem Bech. They have everything you need and we often ran out for a quick cochinita or fresh ceviche. Most Saturdays mornings we went to the Slow Food Market in Centro to purchase tasty treats of local homemade breads and pastries, fresh meats, produce and popped into Café Organica to get organics products. There we met many new folks—locals, expats and tourists too. A visit to Younghee’s Kitchen is a must do—I especially loved the Man Du Korean pies=yummm. Once a month we would venture into the abyss called MEGA to buy European goods, wine and butter. The Yucatecan food in Merida is some of the best culinary tastes we have ever had the privilege to experience. I guess by now you have realized we are foodies… There is so much to do there: from tasting the flavorful local fare, to visiting the endless markets, exploring the ruins and cinotes, music and dancing day or night, walking and riding bikes on the Paseo de Montejo on Sunday mornings, checking out the museums and meeting new people--I could go on forever. Overall, our stay was delicious and amazing, so much so that we are thinking about coming back to stay long term. Maybe we will see you there. ☺
My husband and myself enjoyed this home for 7 weeks this spring and absolutely fall in love with Merida once again.
The city of Merida has so many hidden treasures to see and explore. We visited the cities many free musuems, walked for hours a day looking at the beautiful architecture of the buildings, shopping and enjoying many of the great cafes and restaurants. One of our favorite lunch stops was at the OMG cafe on Colon Ave. Amazing food and the best coffee in town.
We totally enjoyed the pool in this home. It was lovely to spend the hot afternoons in your own private oasis that the backyard in this home offers.
We would like to thank Tracy and Martin for sharing this lovely home with us, it helped to make our vacation very relaxing.
Tracy, the owner was great, answered all our questions and concerns in advance. She left a list of instructions and a list of neighbourhood facilities i.e, market, dry goods, butcher, liquor store, pharmacy and restaurants.
The house is within 20 mins. walk to the 'centro' or main activity area where there are many restaurants and tons of entertainment happening all the time.
Taxis, if you wish, are available, when you walk just flag them down. We did use Simon, who's name is in the house cell, a number of times when we had a special outing planned. His English is excellent and he explained a lot about the area as he drove us.
The management company is available whenever there is a problem either by phone or email.
Emma, the cleaning lady and Isai the pool guy were good and reliable.
We really enjoyed cooking in the open kitchen, it is very well equipped and a first time experience for us.
Merida is a very cultural city, tons to see and do the the people are very friendly. A little Spanish would help especially for taking any transport and the first and second class buses and quite something, TV and A/C which made our outings very pleasant.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay there.

We had the pleasure of staying in this home for 10 days, and it was an incredible experience. The home is absolutely beautiful – the photos represent the house very well, but honestly don’t do justice to the whole vibe of the place and how tranquil and lovely it is. The house was very well cared for, clean, and well stocked (we loved cooking in that beautiful kitchen!), and had nice quality linens and bedding. Tracy gave us great information to help us with our stay, and the property manager met us promptly to give us the keys and show us through the house when we arrived (even though it was nearly 10pm). They even helped us find local (English speaking) Chiropractors and Massage Therapists when my husband’s back went out.
I can’t say enough good things about this place - it was so nice to be there lounging around we had to force ourselves to leave and go out sight-seeing! It was also great to be tucked in the neighborhood and experience what it’s like to live there – we set out each day to walk the block or two around the corner to the Chen Bech market for produce, or one of the tortillerias just beyond. (Also, very tasty salbutes and panuches from a vendor that opens up in the evenings outside the Chen Bech market.)
It’s a short walk to the town square, just about a mile, and we found some great restaurants. Our favorites were Oliva Kitchen and Bar (Italian), a tiny place tucked on a quiet corner with amazing housemade pastas, and Apoala (located in the busier Parque Santa Lucia) had some of the best regional food; the steaks were spectacular and I loved the fried squash blossom appetizer! La Negrita was our favorite bar for afternoon stops; a happening spot with great music , a nice mix of locals and a few tourists here and there. Again, all about a mile walk from the house, and very safe. On the nights we were tired of being on our feet it was easy and inexpensive to grab a cab back to the house.
Despite all the lounging at the house, we did manage to zip out to Progresso Beach for a day. It’s an easy bus ride, but we ended up just jumping in a cab which cost about $20 USD each way. It was a fun little beach town, and there is a corner joint with some of the best rotisserie chicken I’ve ever had about 3-4 blocks due south of the beach on the main drag heading back to Merida.
This is one of the best I’ve ever taken; I rarely want to visit the same place twice – but we will make a point to come back here to this house every year. Enjoy!
