Colonial cottage near the woods
Very enjoyable, comfortable little house! Eliza, our super host, was fantastic. She had our refrigerator stocked as well as many other necessities one may need. (Wifi and Roku too!)
The cottage is like an early american Sturbridge village home but with an updated kitchen and bathroom
From the large deck we enjoyed the views of the pond and woods and walked on the paths around the property. Eliza's house is next door but the way everything is situated it still felt secluded, peaceful and private.
We would definitely go back to the little house in the woods!
Thank you so much for visiting and for your kind review, Beverley and Roger. I really enjoyed meeting you and hope you will return. You were wonderful guests- even making a repair- they don’t come any better than you! Please come back!
Magical, quiet and cozy.
Best part - driveway that transforms you to another time and place. Cottage was cozy, comfortable, quiet and convenient to everything in the area. Everything we hoped for and more! Thank you, Eliza, for sharing your quiet quaint, corner of CT with us!
Thank you very much, Karin. I enjoyed having you and hope that you come back. Warm regards, Eliza
Authentic Antique Cottage
We had a wonderful time in Pomfret at 'The Little House". We hiked to the Wolf's Den, went antiquing in Putnam, visited a gorgeous chapel at The Pomfret School, attended a wonderful festival at Roseland and ended our stay with a magical evening at The Golden Lamb Buttery.
I would recommend a visit to "the quiet corner" any time of year!
Away-from-it-all cottage with delightful grounds and access to historic towns
We loved spending time at the cottage, which dates from the 18th century (I think), and has been in the owner's family for many generations. The back deck overlooks woods, a pond, and lawns with old fruit trees. Inside, the cottage is like a very elegant house in miniature -- and with real antiques. We stayed only for a long weekend, but the quiet of the place rejuvenated us and made us feel we had really been "away." Also, we really enjoyed the private tennis court, set amid trees and grass.
Thank you, Eliza, Peter and Lucy,
I very much enjoyed having you here and hope you will return. You were excellent guests and it was fun for me to see the tennis court being appreciated.
All my best,
Eliza (your name-twin!)
an amazing find!
a great house & attentive host! the perfect place for our wedding guests to stay together near our venue (Golden Lamb Buttery). would recommend to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in the quiet corner.
A world away!
My partner and I live in New York City and while we love it, sometimes we just have to take a break from it all. The Little House in the Big Woods was just what we were looking for. It was a 3hr drive from NYC but, a world away. Having all those acres to walk and enjoy, and to have some distance from the rest of the world, was lovely. Staying in the house was like stepping back in time but, with all the modern conveniences that we are used to. The woodwork is very beautiful and the furnishings and lighting are enchanting. The back deck was a wonderful place to start the day surrounded by nature. One morning a humming bird stopped by! The fireplace is grand and although it is listed as a feature of the house, it is for display only and there is no fire pit to use outside. That was the only aspect that was missing for us. If you want to grocery shop or go out to eat, there is a large shopping center 15-20mins away. That was perfect for us because we felt like we were alone in the wilderness, and yet, everything was within reach if we wanted it. Eliza was the perfect host. She took the time to give us a tour of the house and property, introduced us to all the hens, and made us feel instantly welcome! She was also available in person, or by phone or text if we had any questions. The house and property are just gorgeous and Eliza has stocked the house with anything you may need during your stay. We only had time to spend the weekend at the Little House in the Big Woods but, it was such a wonderful experience that we returned to NYC happy, relaxed, and rejuvenated! Next time, we would love to stay longer. Thank you Eliza!
Thank you for your kind review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciated your leaving the house sparkling! I hope you will return someday.
Este é um local muito isolado, mas menos de 50 milhas de Hartford, Providence, Worcester e New London, a 90 milhas de Boston. É também muito perto de Sharpe Hill Vineyard eo Golden Lamb Buttery
