When we first arrived, we walked in and our jaws dropped. You instantly see the ocean views that are just breath taking. The villa was extremely clean and had a nice fresh smell as we walked into the kitchen. Everything you need is there for you. The beds were very comfortable, a big plus for us. The patio is equipped with a grill for cooking. You want to make sure you stop by the grocery store before driving to Rum Point. Food is very expensive there due to the US currency exchange. We also had the pleasure of meeting the store owner at Christholms market which was a 4 mile drive from the villa. He was great. If you need any pick up foods during your stay, shop there. If you choose to eat out instead of cooking, there are many good places to eat. We had Sunday brunch at "The Lighthouse" and one night ordered a pizza from there. The food was great! We did find out that no one will deliver food on that end of town. The Rum Point resort is just a walk down the road. We found it to be less crowded than the 7 mile beach. The island is just beautiful, and I can't express enough how great all of the staff members from Cayman condos and Villas were. Very accommodating. Thanks Sherman and Ray for all you good advice, help and service. Thanks Jim for getting all of our stay paperwork in order before arrival. We so appreciated it. This company has many beautiful rentals. Rent one, you won't regret it!
For privacy and location (right on the beach, short walk to Rum Point) this villa cannot be beat. It is, however, small and in need of updating. It took me 3 days to discover that there was an outlet in the bathroom (hidden on the side of an ancient medicine cabinet). There are not enough dishes or silverware. To avoid using the horrendously loud dishwasher (and conserve water) we ended up hand washing constantly. The terrace is large and gives access by stairs to the beach below. However, you need water shoes/diving socks to enter the water in this area as there are sharp rocks and coral instead of the all sand beach at Rum Point. The washer and dryer are in a separate building off the carport. It would have been nice to have had a line to hang wet bathing suits and towels...there was a basket with hundreds of ancient clothes pins in it but no line. Odd. If TV interests you, you will be greatly disappointed by the few channels available.
The furnishings were attractive and comfortable. We never tired of the incredible ocean views. I brought home a video of the sea taken from the terrace so I can see and hear it again. We are already thinking about our next trip to the Caymans but will choose a different villa. I am spoiled and need a touch more luxury when on vacation.
The house is lovely with great views and wonderful sunrises. It is comfortable, clean and comes with beach towels and plenty of cooking utensils and dishes. The beach is rocky and not very swim friendly, although if you can get past the rocks, the snorkeling is great. There is a beach at Rum Point, a 5 minute walk from the house. The house is on the north side of the island, about a 1 hour drive from Georgetown. It is best suited for people who want peace and quiet away from the cruise ship crowds. If you want night life, this is not for you. There are several wonderful restaurants on the east and north end, but you need a car to reach them. We loved our week at Moon Glow and would go back.
On first arrival we were impressed with how clean everything was. The villa was exactly as described, but the pictures didn't really capture the size of the villa very well. We found that all of the spaces in the villa were larger than the pictures gave them credit for. The air conditioner worked great throughout our stay, loved the ceiling fans, the fridge and stove were fully adequate for our weeks worth of groceries and our breakfast and lunch cooking. The ice maker made big cubes that lasted outside in the heat well and we had no problem with it keeping up with our needs. Beds were very comfortable and showers and toilets had no problems. We had a wasp next being built under the overhang of the front door, and the property company responded that same day and took care of it.
Absolutely loved the large backdoor patio and the steps to the beach. Snorkeling was great, we saw southern rays, barracuda, turtles, conch, colorful fish, fans, seagrass, flamingo tongue snails. The wind and current was intimidating the first time, but once you find a sandy spot to enter and exit it worked out great. We would walk down the beach away from Rum Point to the public beach area and enter the water. Then let the current carry us down past the villa to get out.
We are a couple in our mid fifties who went for books and sun and snorkeling - and quiet. This was great for us. When we went out to dinner to Kaigo or Over the Edge in the Rum Point areas, we would see like 3 or 4 other cars. It was a very laid back area and was a joy to relish in. Kaigo bar was visited twice and all food eaten was good, ate at Kaigo upstairs once and it was outstanding. Over the edge was good too. The one we would not recommend was the Rum Point restaurant. Slow service and just moderate food. We ventured to the Lighthouse one night and it was very good Italian food.
The coffeemaker uses #4 cone filters in case you want to bring some with you from home. It would have been nice to have one larger teflon pan for breakfast preparation, otherwise, very well stocked kitchen.
If you want activities for the kids and shops and tourism and the bustle of arriving cruise ships, this location is not for you. But if you want beautiful changing blues from the ocean within your view at all times, and you want to relax and take beach walks and have easy access to your home, this place is a delight. We both commented that it was one of the most relaxing vacations we've had. Enjoy!
We wanted to be sure we booked this house for next year before we wrote our review for fear it would be snapped up for the week we wanted after folks read about it. We have visited 9 islands in the Caribbean and stayed in several VRBO rentals. Moon Glow is by far the most beautiful house and Grand Cayman the most beautiful island we have been to. The house is just like the photos and very well equipped with kitchen items and nice indoor and beach towels. Great king bed and wow, showers with super pressure! The pictures don't adequately represent how well the house is laid out. The master bedroom and bath are located up 3 stairs off the living room on one side of the house, and the twin bedroom and bath are located up 3 stairs on the other side of the house. The bump outs in each bedroom with chaises make the rooms very spacious. The view is just unbelievable. The oversized patio is amazing. Definitely need a car as the airport is some 50 minutes away, and with the exception of one good restaurant within walking distance, you'll need a car to get to other restaurants. Literally days went by when we did not see more than 2 or 3 other people on the beach. But if you want fried fish and french fries, and people, and more swimmable water, Rum Point is just a few minutes walk by beach or road. Walking on the beach has some challenging pathways that have coral outcroppings and obstructions so not recommended in the dark. There were a few days when it was quite windy but we found a sheltered sanctuary under one of two palm trees on the property just below the elevated patio where we brought down some chairs and read in the shade. We made the mistake of having beach umbrellas delivered to the house as we are not sunbathers, but the house faces north and there is always shade somewhere on the patio. We also did not use the air-conditioning as we had arrived from the then frigid northeast and just wanted the ocean air. We opened a lot of the many windows and were comfortable day and night. The only outing we had was swimming with the stingrays which was a lovely experience. Add to that not ONE mosquito, great roads and courteous drivers, safety, responsive maintenance, good restaurants (The Lighthouse and Kaibos Upstairs, and Chicken Chicken for take out on the last day), why would we ever go anywhere else? Thank you for sharing your house with us!
Outstanding house, ideal for those that want to avoid the cruise crowds on seven miles beach. Snorkeling paradise right off shore. The house looks much better than the pictures. It's been recently painted and refurbished. It has a great flat TV and all comfort needed. Great kayak too. The house and view are a dream. Good restaurants very nearby and rumpoint has a nice grill and bar walking distance. Don't forget to bring water shoes as the shore is rocky on this side of the island. The sea here is more for snorkeling and kayak than for casual bathing. If you want that , just spend a day at the beach in seven miles and come back to paradise. If you like to do a lot of sports you will find yourself going to the west side everyday which is a 50 min drive. But there are also diving companies walking distance. I just found that Cayman Univeristy Divers was a better option and more personalized company and dos not care about driving at all. The drive is smooth and relaxed so it was worth it. We happened to be at the same time that our next door neighbors which are the owners of this house. They came to check if everything was alright and oh we needed anything. Very good and professional service. Great people. Strongly recommend this place. By the way. You need a car to be here and don't forget to plan your arrival on daily hours so you can stop at the supermarket which is near the airport so you can stock the fridge with great goodies. However there is a small store 5 minutes away which is pretty well stocked only lacking fresh food.
