Cozy Geeenwich Village Apt

  • 5 de 5

What a cozy spot to come home to each night after a long day in NYC. Rest a bit and then walk 1 or 2 blocks to your choice of MANY quaint amazing little restaurants. This was the perfect location to get to anywhere in NYC because there were 2 subway stations within blocks with many choices. Greenwich village is a beautiful neighborhood to stay in with anything you need just around the corner. The host was perfect and so was our stay in this lovely apartment.

Perfect Place for a West Village Experience

  • 5 de 5

Joan and her granddaughter had prepared the apt. very well for our stay. She accommodated a late date change on our part, which helped us out a great deal. The apt. was as pictured. It is charming, as advertised, and is in a great location. It is surprisingly quiet and very close to every thing you would like to have available in the Village. There are dozens of good restaurants within several blocks. New Yorkers who were told where we were staying were uniformly positive and impressed regarding the street address.

While the building is old ( historically so ), the apt., is well maintained and clean. There is only one flight of stairs so there is easy access. Joan has a really nice convection oven but we wanted to have a microwave, so we bought one to use for our month's stay, and then donated to our daughter and son-in-law for use in their shop. The window air conditioner in the bedroom kept the place adequately cool during some rather hot days, when used in conjunction with the overhead fan in the living room.

Overall, we very much liked the apt., and felt it contributed to our exceptionally enjoyable New York trip. We would recommend it to friends and relatives. In fact , the friends and relatives that saw it during our stay liked it too.

A perfect stay in Greenwich Village

  • 5 de 5

We stayed in Joan's apartment for the whole of August, and it's hard to describe just how much of a unique gem her place is.

First of all, the location: we roamed around the whole of Manhattan during our time in NYC and we always found ourselves gravitating back to Greenwich and the West Village. So being able to stay right in the heart of this area was perfect for us. There are lots of nice coffee shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance, and the transport is great as well -- you can get to anywhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn with ease from the various metro stations a short walk away.

The apartment itself is beautiful, warm and cosy, and despite its compact floorplan, the high ceilings mean it feels very spacious. More importantly, it is brimming with character, with all sorts of interesting furniture, cute ornaments, magazines and great music. We felt as though we were staying in a real home, which added hugely to our experience. The building is a traditional brownstone, which means you feel like you're getting the authentic NYC experience. We particularly enjoyed sitting out on the steps with our coffee watching all the adorable dogs go by.

All in all we really felt like we'd been temporarily transplanted into a wonderful New York life during our stay at Joan's, and are missing her apartment so much already. We really hope we'll be able to come back someday!

An Oasis of Peace in Manhattan

  • 5 de 5

Our delightful hostess Joan and her helpful thirteen year old granddaughter Lily met us at the Greenwich Village apartment in August. We were thrilled with what we saw. The apartment is in a brownstone dating from around the 1860s only one flight up from the ground floor. The apartment is filled with beautiful French furniture in the old country style. The elegant tall mirror over the marble fireplace, chandelier and beautiful woodwork brought to mind that Christopher Reeve movie, “Somewhere in Time.”

Our son really enjoyed being by himself up in the loft at night. We loved listening to classical music in the background. Tall French windows overlooking a peaceful courtyard were delightful and provided plenty of light. It was hard to believe that after doing all the touristy stuff and buzzing around all day on the subway, that we could come back to this oasis of peace in the evenings.

Joan and Lily showed us how various things worked and gave us a list of some of their favorite things to do. We did most of them, including the Chelsea market. There’s a Whole Foods nearby in Union Square, which was a great place to pick up food without cooking. One wonderful benefit was the luxury of not having to do our own washing. Joan told us about a good, inexpensive laundromat that washes, dries and folds your clothes the same day. We ran into two of the neighbors living in the building, both of whom were friendly and helpful. We went out almost every night in the neighborhood. Lots of people were out walking their dogs at all hours.

There are several excellent restaurants within just a few blocks. We liked French Roast and Café Loup very much. Our thirteen year old son loved eating the famous “Ray’s Pizza” and said it was one of the best pizzas he had ever had. We all loved the Pinkberry (yummy frozen yogurt) only a short walk away. Murray’s Bagels just around the corner are fantastic; the ambience was quintessential pure New York.

For our family of three, the apartment, the neighborhood, and proximity to the subway and interesting places nearby (Union Square, Washington Square) we couldn’t have asked for more. But most of all, we enjoyed walking the streets and seeing the magnificent life in New York during our eight night stay. We would go back to Joan and her husband Procter’s apartment in a heartbeat.
