This was the first time my wife and I stayed at a house instead of a resort during our vacation. We found this experience very enjoyable and budget friendly. The Seasong Cottage is very quant and tastefully decorated, as well as in a very nice location. One of the owners, Karen, whom we dealt with, was very accommodating and easy to deal with. She responded to any and all of our questions and concerns in a timely matter.
Anita picked us up at the airport and took us to a nearby grocery store. Actually, everything is nearby on Grand Turk. After dropping us off at the house, she came inside and showed us around the property.
We walked down the beach to Bohio's for dinner. I suggest skipping this place . While the food is good, the service was terrible and slow. You can do better. This place could be a goldmine if run differently. We encountered one of only two unfriendly people at Bohio's. Nearly everybody is friendly on Grand Turk.
On Sunday we used the two bikes provided and took a nice ride to the southern end of the island. This is where we discovered Governor's Beach. This beach is absolutely beautiful. We ended up renting a golf cart for the week and spent everyday at Governor's Beach. The beach is very quite, the snorkeling is nice and there is plenty of sea glass to be found.
I recommend the following places to eat: Barbie's, Sandbar and The Grand Turk Inn. Barbie's is about 100 yards south of the cottage.
Keep in mind that Grand Turk is a Cruise Island stop. So, for the most part, when the cruise ships are in, shops are open. When the cruise ships are not in, shops are closed.
My wife and I did not do any of the excursions. We did, however, snorkel 300 yards or so off shore from the Library to "The Wall". We saw a sea turtle along with other nice fish. We also drove the cart to the Lighthouse and walked around.
All in all, our vacation was very relaxing and enjoyable. My wife and I enjoyed seeing the free roaming and friendly dogs, donkeys and horses.
However, we would not go back. This decision has nothing to do with the house or beach. Both are wonderful. The Island itself is not very appealing to the eye or nose. The salt ponds are numerous and have a very strong odor. And, there really isn't much to do other than the beaches on Grand Turk.
If you do decide to go to Grand Turk, stay at the Seasong. You won't be disappointed. Be sure to visit Governor's Beach. But also, don't be in a hurry. Time has no meaning on Grand Turk.
This lovely cottage is a real gem on the tiny island of Grand Turk. It is spacious, well-stocked, clean and comfortable. Caribbean islanders enjoy a climate that encourages outdoor living, so we were very happy the air conditioning could be used to drown out the sounds of the busy island. Karen and Anita are very helpful, respond quickly to requests, and do their best to accommodate guests. We enjoyed our time living on the local economy in this pleasant cottage.
The house is just what we expected. The kitchen is stocked with every utensil you need and enough spices for the week. Beach chairs, bikes and enough towels for the week. The only thing you might want to look into is a golf cart from Omar, best money you will spend and you can literally explore the entire island with it. He will even let you drive it back to the airport.
We cooked 3 nights out of the 6 because the locals bring fresh catch at 5 pm every day. You literally walk 6 homes down the street and it's right there. You never know what they will bring in. We ate conch, red snapper and a lobster that was big enough for six people! I wish we would have cooked all six nights, but the restaurants were too good to pass up. Bohio Resort is within walking distance by beach or road, excellent meal, slow service, but you are on island time. Bonnie's kitchen for lunch. She is in town and everything she makes is delicious. Turks Head Inn is a short bike ride away. Dinner was delicious as well and the service was amazing. Osprey is a short bike or golf card drive. We went on a night that they had barbecue. The side dishes (buffet) were amazing and the seafood was perfectly cooked on the grill.
We were there during a week that was windy and the cruise ships only landed one day. We virtually had the island to ourselves. When they do come in, it is much busier but fun to watch everyone. Two grocery stores and a liquor store within walking distance. The house is right in the middle of where the locals live, they are extremely helpful and will answer any of your questions since they know everyone and everything on the island. When I passed all the other rentals I looked at on VRBO, I was happy with our location. Right in the middle of things but far enough away.
Bring bug spray! No joke, you can't get away from them in and out of the house.
Bring lots of cash. I read this, but didn't know the severity. Most stores and the locals only deal in cash. There are banks, but I couldn't get any cash out of the machines and my phone carrier was sketchy.
Pack some staples in your suitcase. The stores are super expensive so items like snacks, coffee, dried fruits are helpful to bring.
Our experience was so wonderful that we will be back in the near future.
We stayed from 12/22-12/28/16. There's several pros and cons about the property:
Pros: It's across the road from a beautiful quiet beach. The cottage is well stocked with all the amenities that's needed, including beach towels, chairs, and umbrella. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean. Plenty of clean towels and kitchen supplies, including cooking spices and seasonings. Nice comfortable king size bed. Large TV with plenty of channels. Large screened in porch to keep bugs out. Two cruiser bikes for island exploring. The grocery store is around the corner. Everything was functional. The fishermen bring in the fresh catch of the day down the road. The owner was responsive to questions and quick professional booking process. She arranged for a cab to pick us up from the airport. Property manager, Anita, greeted us on arrival to show us the ropes of the place.
Cons: The cottage is a bit old and needed some updating. It's very basic but functional. The main thing we didn't like were the ants and other bugs immediately outside the house. You can't avoid stepping on them the moment you step outside. We found some ants on the kitchen counter searching for food regardless of how clean we kept it. Not much of a view since the new houses blocked the view but no fault of the owners.
We felt safe at the location despite some of the under developed surrounding regions. The local people are friendly and helpful. It's not a 5 star accommodation but overall, we enjoyed our stay.
Seasongs is a quaint, comfortable cottage on beautiful Grand Turk! If you want to experience what it is like to live on a small beautiful island without high rise hotels, but has friendly people, gorgeous beaches, wild donkeys and horses that freely roam, calm warm water to swim in then come to Grand Turk. If you are tired of the resort atmosphere but still want to be pampered ..sleeping in a comfy bed with high quality linens, Wi Fi, cable, and all the comforts of home then you must stay st Seasongs. As soon as I booked (Karen was great with communication and gave us all the info we needed) I knew I made a great choice. Anita who takes care of Seasongs had someone meet us st the airport and she greeted us when we arrived. Anita checked on us through out the week as well. We rented a golf cart from Omar and this was our transportation as we explored the island during the morning. We then went to the beach in the afternoon and swam in the calm warm ocean. I brought a float snd floated for hours....heaven!! After the beach I would either napped on the couch in the screened in porch under the fan or on the comfy day bed. Then it was a choice to either walked down the beach and buy hugh lobster tails, conch, etc from the local fisherman for dinner or hop on the golf cart to watch the sunset at the Sand Bar. We would have dinner there or at the Ospry of Grand Turk Inn. Stroll the beach after dinner with the moonlight shining and then go back to Seasongs and snuggle on the comfy big sofa to watch our favorite TV shows. Life is good at Seasongs!! Can't wait to go back!!
I have never written a review about any of the many, many, vacation spots my wife and I have stayed at. But this little gem, is definately worthy of my first review. My wife and I have only vacationed at 5 star all inclusive resorts or on Cruises . So this was a step outside of the box for us. But soo glad we did! This cottage offers everything you need. It is clean, quiet, romantic, safe! It is one of the only self contained rentals on the island. All the rest are split up or shared with the owners living on the property! Not at Seasongs! It is yours. All yours. So it feels like it's your own cottage at home! The location is perfect. A great Beach straight ahead of the cottage. Or venture 5 min down the road to an even more magnificent beach. In 5 days we saw 10 people at most on the beach. So private. Location, location, location! Everything(except for noisy tourists) are close by!Liquor store, grocerey store all are 5 min away. If you are looking to get away from it all, but want to have beautiful water and sand and a cozy place to call home! Then this IS your rental to get! Seasongs was the best rental on the isalnd. Trust me, we went and saw alot of them! We will be going back in the new year! Thanks to Karen and Eric for making this experience easy and taking care of all my needs!(the bottle of wine , flower arangement and card for my wife) waiting on the table for our arrival was just the icing on the cake. Thanks again for everything!
