Wonderful place to stay!

  • 4 de 5

There were two families that stayed our week, and there was plenty of room for everyone! This house is fabulous, and obviously well-loved. Right off Rte 6, and yet in the middle of the woods. Suzette has maintained the original character and put in the modern conveniences. It was wonderful to read the history of the house, and see the family pictures throughout. If you are looking for a super modern, squeaky clean place - this isn't for you. It's a summer house. It's quirky. There is sand. The floors are creaky and slope in places - that's all part of it's charm. We all enjoyed our week, and everyone said they would come back to this house again. The only thing missing that could have made it perfect? A fire pit. It got cold at night, and we loved staying outside - but had to move in - a fire pit would have kept us out later.

Wonderful rambling antique retreat in Wellfleet.

  • 5 de 5

Just returned from a week staying in this beautiful, well-loved house in Wellfleet. I've stayed in several different houses in Wellfleet over the years, and this has been one of my favorites. It's right off Rt. 6, so you can hear traffic going by (not a dealbreaker for this city-dweller) but that means you can get to other parts of Wellfleet and the cape very quickly and easily. The historic feeling of the house, the way the rooms flow into each other; it's just very pleasing. I read a negative review shortly before our arrival but it sounds like it was for a different house. Absolutely no roaches, mice, or bad smells here. A few ants sometimes in the kitchen if we left food on the counter (this is expected on the cape.) Everything was in working order, everything was clean. Take it from me: I've stayed at places that smelled like musty mildew everywhere; a place with a serious mice problem we had to take care of ourselves; a place that was so full of the owners' belongings that it felt claustrophobic, with bad/stuffy air flow; and a place that was so bare-bones they didn't supply the bathrooms with TOILET PAPER or any soap or cleaning products! Oh and houses with stinky/sulphuric water, which can't be helped in some neighborhoods in Wellfleet. This house had NONE of those issues. There's toilet paper and paper towels and hand soap and dish soap! There are spices labeled as fresh and available for your use! There's countertop spray to wipe down the counters to keep the ants away! And fans for every room, AND a couple of portable air conditioners that we only needed the first night. I'm specifying all this so you, prospective renter, will know what you need to bring. One of the only down sides: no dishwasher. The kitchen is so charming you won't mind. The king size bedroom upstairs is lovely, though a bit privacy-challenged: one of the single rooms is directly off of it, as is the only bathroom upstairs. Also, the only shower is the one outdoors -- there's a clawfoot tub in the downstairs bathroom. Typical of a historic farmhouse like this. We all, including our dog, loved the yard -- plus the hammock, the outdoor shower, and the sizable deck. The house and its owner are friendly and the advertised good vibes of the house are for real. Thanks for renting your space to us.

Property is in desperate need of cleaning and insect/mice removal. Not worth the money.

  • 1 de 5

I have been coming to the Cape since I was a child and have rented many homes. The house I usually rent in Wellfleet for the past 6 years is over 200 years old and of similar age to this property, but was too small for myself and another family to sleep, so we found this property on your site. Suzette, the owner, seemed very lovely when we spoke before our trip and the pictures didn’t show anything that you really see until you arrive.

The difference between the home I have been renting in the past and this property are so many things..... Cleanliness! We arrived to a dirty house, with filthy bathrooms, dirty floors, etc. Even when we called the owner to inform her, and she sent someone in to clean it, it was still unacceptable, there were cob webs everywhere, the floors were dirty, under the carpets and in the corners, the windows were full of bugs, dirt and cob webs, all of the kitchen cupboards were dirty with mice poop and just plain dirt, as were the drawers. There were cockroaches - yes, cockroaches in almost all of the rooms including three of the bedrooms. The ants in the kitchen were horrible - and I do understand that the Cape has ants, especially during rain, but it was dry all week. There were spiders in many corners of the house and to top it off, we shared the kitchen with a mouse that was bold enough to sit on the kitchen counter when we were in there. The whole upstairs, and more specifically, the master bedroom, side bedroom and bath stunk like animal urine. Stunk! The air spray on the dresser couldn't even cover it up. When we got there, the upstairs smoke detector was pulled off and we had to buy a $10 battery and put it back up... The king bed mattress pad had to be washed when I arrived; because it had stains from a woman sitting on it, from what I imagine was a previous stay. The laundry room was filthy, and there is something dead inside the dryer, because after we washed our clothes and put them in the dryer, the clothes smelled funky...

My father grew up in a family with 11 children and they were poor. The one thing his mother taught him was that you can be poor, you can live in an old house, but there is no excuse for not being clean. WE PAID Way too much money for what we were offered.

The blessing was that it was beautiful all week and we still got to enjoy Wellfleet and to be in the house for as little time as possible.

Resposta do proprietário: I am a very positive person and do all I can to make my renters happy.I contacted both renters before her stay to see if what she stated was true. Both renters assured me that this was not the case! I asked about the mattress pad and the previous guest said she stripped that bed and there was no blood. I asked about the dryer and again she said this was not the case.I have a repeat renter for the last four years and he stated he has never seen a roach or mice in the house. I had the house cleaner come the next morning and she has assured me that the house was cleaned when she left.I stayed there myself for three weeks in preparation for the summer. I really work hard to make the house feel like home. There has NEVER been cockroaches in our home! Beetle bugs are not roaches.I take pride in my Grandparents home.Tracey never called me after the cleaning issues after the cleaner came. I always give my renters my phone number and tell them to call me if they have any issues or questions during their stay. If Tracey really had such a horrible time and a mouse stared her down in the kitchen WHY didn't she call me?Her review was one of a very negative person who no matter what I did she would have not been happy.Again I am a very positive person and will not let her take that away from me. No good deed goes unpunished.I changed weeks for Tracey so she would not lose her deposit after telling me it was a medical problem. I spoke to my renter on August 7th and she told me the house was very clean. Not sure why someone would write about things that were not true other than looking for a refund. If her intent was to ruin my feedback rating she did a great job!

Great location with a fully stocked house

  • 5 de 5

The location is wonderful if you want to be near Wellfleet center, beaches, hiking trails, great food and some local wine. The nearby trails were great for taking the dogs on their morning walks. The kitchen is stocked with any pot, pan, measuring cup or knife you will need. All the mattresses were in wicked good condition and many of the pillows appeared new. There is nothing worse than finding one of the beds in your vacation rental has a human shaped dent in it. That was not an issue here. The house is old but is obviously very well cared for by Suzette and her family. Suzette also provided a list of all the local attractions and had all the beach locations listed on the fridge along with menus, maps and cape magazines in the living room. My family tends to vacation on the cape once every two or three years and we will definitely look to stay here again if it is still on the rental market. Great house and great landlord.

R&R in a truly authentic Cape house, with history & charm to spare: our new home away from home!

  • 5 de 5

My family and I spent a delightful week earlier this summer at Suzette's lovely place, which we shared with our friends and their kids - in all, 3 adults, 4 kids aged 7 to 10, and 1 very happy dog. As others have written: we feel we've found the place we'll always want to return to whenever we visit the Cape in years to come - as long as she's still willing to share it!

We know the area reasonably well, since my mom and uncle live nearby in Orleans - Wellfleet is our favorite place to be, and this house is ideally located: it's easy to reach, literally steps away from Route 6, and yet once you head down the long unpaved drive, you're in a private retreat surrounded by trees and grass - more meadow than lawn. From this central but peaceful spot, you're an easy drive to Wellfleet town and harbor, Truro and Provincetown - but you can just as easily spend your whole week exploring the Outer Cape's kettle ponds and beautiful beaches, both bay and oceanside, via quiet back roads, with hardly any need to ever get onto Route 6.

The house itself is both cozy and spacious - one room follows another as typical of an early 1800s farmhouse, each filled with family memorabilia, antiques and beachhouse trinkets, and there are two staircases, which delighted the kids, who explored every corner and played fantastic games of hide and seek both inside and out, running out one screen door and then around the house to enter through another. All the while we parents relaxed on the very spacious deck or in the hammock in the yard - we all enjoyed the breezy, barefoot life - including the dog, who like the kids had plenty of room to run around and play.

The house is very comfortable - but if you're looking for chic or modern, this isn't for you. Everything you might need is there - washer/dryer, microwave, full kitchen and supplies, and then some - but it's friendly rather than fancy: a lovely claw-foot tub, or a wonderful outdoor shower for bathing; the dining table where Suzette ate as a little girl herself; old wooden floorboards; and quirky artwork and mementos - these all are what make the house a charming home.

Suzette has clearly put a lot of love - and elbow grease - into maintaining this special place, and cares just as much about her guests; she was eager to share advice about favorite places to find fresh seafood, see a beautiful sunset, or take a dip in the pond, and was friendly and responsive when we had any questions. Can't wait to go back!
