I was in charge of planning a trip to Costa Rica with my husband and our neighbors so that they could fulfill a lifelong bucket list dream of ziplining in Costa Rica. When they saw the photos of this home. and heard about all the area had to offer, they told me to look no further! Having never been to this part of the country, I was a bit nervous that it would live up to all they anticipated.
Upon arrival, and greeted personally by Nancy and a huge vase of red and pink ginger flowers that brightened the living room throughout our stay, we all agreed it far surpassed our expectations, and only got better and better as our 8-day respite continued! Nancy was the perfect hostess and we enjoyed getting to know her! There anytime, at a quick holler, if you needed her, and equally as courteous to allow you complete privacy if you preferred.
The setting and views were beautiful. My husband and I often opt for beachfront rentals when we travel but being both at the beach, as well as in a rain forest with all of the incredible sights and sounds it has to offer, was a dream come true!
The easy 5- minute walking distance to town and the bus station made anything we needed at our fingertips. Nancy was a wealth of information and suggestions for the area and everything was more than we could have wished for. The close proximity to Cahuita National Park further enhanced our sensory overload with the magnificent flower and foliage and unique animal/reptile/insect sightings it had to offer.
We appreciated the fully equipped kitchen for preparing meals in or supporting the local sodas and bakery for meals out. Nancy arranged for one of the locals to bring us coconuts and we enjoyed the fresh coconut jelly and liquid for days (yummy in smoothies and rum drinks! ;-). Another man, brought us fresh caught fish that we prepared for dinner.
Air conditioning was not necessary as the nights were quite cool and comfortable. We fell asleep soothed by the sound of the sea and awoke to howler monkeys and the many exotic birds singing. The black sand beach just a short walk up the road was lovely as was the golden beach in town next to the National Park.
We hope you take advantage of the opportunity yourselves one day soon! We highly recommend this property and hope to return and enjoy it again ourselves! Every activity is within reach and if you take advantage of the convenient local bus service, you can get around just fine on a budget too!

Nancy was very helpful connecting us with local activities and information. We enjoyed beach combing, picking driftwood and shells. Everytime we went to the National Park we saw different wildlife. Had a great winter getaway! Thank you Nancy.
My husband and I spent a week at this lovely property this October. The pictures of the home and description are very accurate, and the home was clean. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean view from the wrap around lanai, the lovely gardens, and falling asleep to the sound of waves every night. We occasionally heard howler monkeys in the distance, and twice saw a sloth in the trees next door. We pretty much spent all of our time lounging on the comfortable lanai when we were home. We felt very safe here, it is on a quiet residential street, but close enough to walk everywhere. The property is behind a high fence and gate, security doors and windows. The windows also have screens. It does get warm, but there are ocean breezes and the ceiling fans and extra fans were appreciated. The home had everything we needed, plenty towels and beach towels were provided which was appreciated. There is a coffee maker, pots and pans, we had everything we needed to make some meals while we were there. There is even a surge protector for charging your devices. Nancy lives right next door so is close for any questions and the eggs, coffee and filtered water were appreciated. The shore at the home is beautiful, and rocky. A short walk up the road are sandy beaches.
We really enjoyed Cahuita and the quiet laid back atmosphere. The people are very friendly. There are a few small markets for groceries, where you can get all of the basics you need. Pali market in Hone Creek has a bit more available. On Sunday is a farmers market. There is one ATM. There are also several restaurants and bars. Most accepted US dollars as well as Colones, some accept credit cards, but there are added taxes and paying cash will save you money. Our favorite restaurant was Sobre Los Olas right down the street from the property, ocean front with outdoor dining. They had a sloth with a baby outside in the tree. We also loved Guy's French Bakery and would stop by for food in the morning to take with us for lunch, very affordable. We also enjoyed Planique Luisa and Pizzeria Cahuita. Cahuita National Park is in walking distance and is a must see! Nice level trail, wildlife and a beautiful white sand beach. You can walk everywhere in town and there is a bus station so you can manage without a car. Out of Cahuita our favorite beach was Punta Uva, I also recommend a trip to the Gandoca-Manzanillo Refuge and the Jaguar Sanctuary.
I highly recommend a stay at Nancy's home!
My husband and I spent 6 nights at this property at the beginning of our 16-day honeymoon to Costa Rica. The property is down an unpaved and quiet residential street, but is only a few blocks from the town of Cahuita.
Pros: The photographs do not do this property justice. The view from the second-story, wrap-around balcony of the garden toward the Caribbean is fantastic. The property itself is open air (with screens and security frames around the windows) with shutters if you want additional privacy (we never closed ours); however, it is a very secure building and the property (shared with the owner's home) is behind a high gate. The wrap-around second floor balcony with hammock and plenty of seating is a fantastic way to lounge with a book in the hot afternoons. The house was well-appointed with towels and beach towels, coffee maker, pots&pans, etc. Nancy, the owner, even gave us a few staples so we could have our first breakfast the next morning. Everything was clean. Nancy, the owner, was very nice and even suggested we venture out to find a waterfall outside of town- we did, and had a great time swimming and enjoying the views.
Cons: No real cons. There is no air conditioning, so we got pretty hot sometimes. But, there is a big ceiling fan in the upstairs bedroom and usually a pretty good cross-breeze off of the water. We also were awoken by howler monkeys or birds a lot of mornings, but we had ear plus and really, that was all part of the Caribbean experience!
I think this place is a real hidden gem, and you will be happy to choose this location for a relaxing vacation. While here, we enjoyed lots of long walks, hikes in the adjacent National Park (walking distance), snorkeling, a tour at Tree of Life animal sanctuary, and eating as much ceviche as we could! We also went to the Sloth Sanctuary on the day we left.
The house is very big, and the upstairs area is nice, with a great view of the ocean. The house and the surrounding area felt safe. The owner of the house lives a couple feet over in another house, which makes communication immediate. The downstairs of the house isn't as pleasant as the upstairs, which led to everybody preferring to sleep in the upstairs area, something hard to accommodate. Also, the bathrooms are in need of small repairs.
