We spent a week here with our two children, their partners, and 2 children ages 8 & 10, and could not have been happier. We will definitely be coming back. The house is comfortable and spacious, and has a very well equipped kitchen. It has a time worn charm, but with all modern conveniences including two large full baths. There are more than enough towels, pillows, linens, dishes, life jackets, etc. This is not a luxurious place by any means, but it is casual, comfy, and located on the best lake in state. The kids had a blast swimming in the backyard, especially with the Spanish Island (aka The Donut). Highly recommended.
My wife and I spent two weeks at the Hulick family cottage in June and July of 2016. We had one of the nicest family vacations of our 45 years together. The Hulicks have a mission: to preserve, improve, and share a family cottage that makes brilliant, lasting memories. It's quirky and unique. It's not a glossy AC'd condo on Lake Winnipesaukee. It's an authentic 115 year old, wood-paneled, old-wiring, big-windowed, solid house in one of the most beautiful places in NH. Contrary to some of the earlier reviews, it was neat, clean, and well kept. Wonderful flowers, pleasant little beach, and a family who care for it who are gracious, welcoming, and responsive--all of them. Paying rent you feel like you're helping them with their mission and are grateful to do so.
What a wonderful week I had at the house. The house was shared by 8 other good friends with a day visit from 2 more. We were all friends back in the 60's and had no problem with conversation. Lots of stories were retold and new ones heard. The weather was the best, possibly of the whole summer. Some of us took daily hikes on the trails nearby while most of us were happy to enjoy time by and in the water. Every couple took a night preparing dinner (the kitchen was very well equipped)and on our last night we went to the Waterhouse in Peterborough which we would all highly recommend. The fact that we had 3 dogs to share in the adveture was an added bonus. They loved running up and down the trail to the beach and hunting for the chipmunks that lived in the rocks by the water. It was so peaceful and relaxing , especially at sunset annd again in bed listening to the call of the loons. The house was perfect for our group and I look forward to a revisit. Thank you so much for this opportunity to relax, laugh, and spend quality time with old friends.
This is a beautiful property on an amazing lake. However, the house is in desperate need of a top to bottom cleaning and has obviously not been cleaned in a long while. If you have good weather and don't intend to spend any time inside the house you will have a great time! The amenities provided are ample enough but the majority of the beds are rather uncomfortable and desperately need to be replaced. With that being said it would take very little money and work to make this an amazing place to stay!
We have been coming to this house for five years with our children and grandchildren from CA, Denver and Brooklyn. Its a perfect spot for our family vacation. The lake is clear as a bell, quiet easy for little children to get in from the shore, fun for everyone to swim out to the raft (though there are lifejackets of every size in the boathouse). Everyone learned to kayak and canoe across the lake to the kids favorite activity--the rope swing. For rainy days there are lots of games in the living room, books galore for the adults. Kitchen is well fitted and washing machine and dryer helpful for towels and sheet which are all provided. Owner and family are welcoming, and take care of anything needed right away. Lots of bedroom, gas grill, firepit for smores etc.
The surrounding area is beautiful; trees, loons, dirt roads for running and biking, a small nature center just up the road.
Between Keene and Peterborough where there are excellent restaurants, shopping etc.
Both the adults and all the kids look forward to coming each year-even if it's the day they come back from camp.
We had such a nice time at this rental! My husband and I, and four adult children in their twenties, enjoyed the sun, kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, fishing, rope swing, elephant rock, eagles nest area, serenity and perfect sized beautifully clean lake. We enjoyed the spacious floor plan, decor, architecture and furnishings of this home. They were unique, and helped us to imagine that we were vacationing in an earlier time period at this house that was originally built in 1901. We took advantage of the area climb of Thumbs Up Mountain in Hancock, the town center library where we printed our fishing licenses, and the cute general store. Mount Monadnock climb was 30 min. away. Peterborough was a great artsy little town to visit with many shops, oil and vinegar tasting shop, chocolate shop, museums( we visited Mariposa), a Peterborough Players theater( we did not have time, would attend another time). We spent most of our time on the lake, but could have spent more time in town, even Harrisville if rainy. The owners were very helpful answering any questions I had. We are always worried about my daughters allergies to dogs and cats- we were happy not have issues with this at all. The internet worked fine. You can see the lake from the house. We were not sure about this before arriving but it was fine.( I actually saw great fire works on the lake from the living room window) Enjoyed doing yoga in front of the house on the lawn, and at the lakeside lawn and boat ramp area. We brought our own two sail/kayaks which worked great on this lake, not too windy or choppy as we had experienced on Lake George, but really good here. Other pretty sail boats were out and nice to watch. Appreciated having use of the owners boats;two single, one double seat kayaks, and a canoe to tour around the lake, and into Spoon Pond which touches Lake Nubanusit. We rented a paddle board for the week on the way to Peterborough at Eastern Mountain Sports and while out that way picked up groceries at Shaws( 20 min from the house) We enjoyed preparing our own meals in their equipped kitchen. I liked using their very unique huge cast iron fry pan for roasting vegetables, etc. The coffee maker was great, yet my children wanted to bring our espresso coffee maker- plenty of room for this. We did not go to any restaurants but were told of many fine places in the area to eat out. We enjoyed sharing reunited family time here, with opportunity at quiet privacy and moments of shared adventure.
