My sisters and I get together every year for a week long horseback riding trip. When we saw the listing, we contacted Elaine about bringing our own horses and she said yes and we are glad she did! The cabin in warm and comfortable and the horse accommodations were awesome. We had a corral and a 6 acre pasture with knee deep grass. (There is also a barn which we didn't use except for storing fee and using the hydrant) The enclosed porch faces the horse pasture and we enjoyed watching the horses and the several deer that wandered into the pasture each morning and night. The deck on the side of the house is great too and we used the grill and ate most of our meals on the deck at night. The beds are comfy and the bathrooms are spacious. The kitchen is well equipped. (Great wine glasses!) The cabin is rustic with all the modern conveniences. The location is secluded but you are minutes from Custer, the Michelson Trail, Custer State Park and all the other sites. There are trails right out the back of the property that offer stunning views and it was also easy to load up and go into the park and the national forest to ride additional trails. Elaine and Kirby are awesome owners and they were very helpful and easy to work with. We don't usually go back to the same place but we would definitely consider returning here in the future.
We just returned from a wonderful stay at the cabin and wished we could have stayed longer. It is very cozy and comfortable and worked well for our three generation group. Enjoyed sitting on the veranda in the morning and relaxing. Every evening a deer came through the yard and we saw a family of turkeys. The cabin is well stocked and very spacious. We would love to come back again. Thank you very much for sharing this cabin.
Home was well maintained and had all the amenities for cooking and relaxing. National forest access and hiking just outside the door we enjoyed the area a great deal and would stay here again when we get a chance to return.
This cabin held 5 adults great! It was clean, close to a lot of SD attractions, close to Custer and had all the amenities you could want! Especially enjoyed drinking coffee on the veranda every morning and watching the deer. We will definitely rent this cabin again. Thank you Elaine and Kirby for sharing this beautiful cabin.! This was a beautiful house and excellent location. The property is located very close to Custer State Park and is like a park itself. There is a little bridge going over a stream that my kids just loved to play in. We came "home" one afternoon to find a yellow bellied marmot on the front yard. Chipmunks scurry around and bunnies hop around all day. It's like staying in a park.
The house had all of the amenities you could need. We cooked most of our meals and had all the necessary pots, pans and utensils. The house was clean and well maintained. The front porch was a favorite place for us to sit with coffee and enjoy the view.
The Black Hills are one of my family's favorite places. The kids already want to come back and stay at this house. They loved it!
We had a great time in our group home-away-from home. This cabin felt like a little oasis for our merry band of 7 (5 adults and 2 kids). It was in a fabulous location for easy day trips to Rushmore, Chief Crazy Horse, and Custer State Park. And, the open floor plan, multiple mini decks, and enclosed front porch were perfect for hanging out in the mornings and evenings. It had more than we needed in terms of dishes, kitchen essentials, games, and comfy chairs. We'd come back!
