We were met by the owner Ofer, who spent time showing us the property and explain how every thing worked, and where we could get our shopping. The property was spotlessly clean and we immediately felt comfortable. The views form the patio were impressive.
We will certainly be going back and will tell our family and friends about the property.
We had a wonderful stay at Cro Bique this past July. The house is very comfortable and the hosts were extremely pleasant and helpful. Despite us being several hours later than we expected (we didn't get there until around 9 PM), Ofer was waiting at the house for us with a smile and a helping hand to unload the car and get everything inside. He gave us a tour of the house and left a bottle of wine and some items in the fridge for breakfast. He also gave us a valuable piece of information when he recommended going to the outdoor market at Saint Cyprien the following morning! But if you miss the market in Saint Cyprien, don't worry - nearly all the surrounding towns have outdoor markets at least once per week, so you're sure to have other opportunities.
Anyway, the house is lovely, and has everything you would need. Coming from America with our king sized beds, we were a little worried about the bed size. But it was not a problem! The mattress in the master bedroom was plenty big (I'd estimate somewhere between an American king and queen in size), and my wife and I didn't bump into each other at all while sleeping. Mattress was comfortable and did not sag. Two of our kids slept in the kid's room, which has two twin sized beds. Our 3rd kid got a room to herself, with a 140 cm bed, which is huge for a single kid or adult, but may be a little tight for 2 adults. The bedrooms are not huge, but they are comfy and clean.
We were there during a major heatwave - Tuesday got up to 100 degrees F! The stone house stayed fairly cool, but if I could have made one wish for the house, it would have been for a portable AC unit, just for the very hottest of days. Most of the time it was not necessary. Opening the windows in the evening brings in cooler air. We were shocked at first that the windows don't have screens! If we slept with the windows open and no screens at home the mosquitoes would turn us into ShrinkyDinks overnight. But not at Cro Bique! Even with the windows wide open all night, we did not get a single bug bite. Moths might fly in, attracted to the light, but they fly back out again when the lights go out.
All in all the house is wonderful. You'll be renting half of a dup, but the folks in the other half were very quiet and we barely knew they were there. We had a really REALLY great time and look forward to coming back some day. Thanks Gabriella and Ofer - it was wonderful to meet you!
It was our first visit to the Dordogne in June and, despite the weather, we were not disappointed and this was due to the fact that we stayed at Cro Bique and could not have asked for anything better. From our initial enquiry in November 2015, Gabriella/Ofer had promptly responded to all our emails and we were greeted on arrival by Ofer who shared more useful information with us about the house, where to eat, supermarkets, vets and good places to visit etc.
We found the house extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean with amazing views across the valley and Gabriella and Ofer had thought of everything and catered for all requirements to make the house feel like home.
There were panoramic views across the valley from the decked area at the front of the house and also lots of wildlife. Beynac itself was quite busy and quite congested with cars and it was good to be able to leave the car at home in the evening and walk down to the village for a meal and then slowly stroll back to this peaceful retreat. There was a short cut from the house to the village which took around 7 minutes or a longer more scenic walk along the country lanes which was around 15 minutes. Le Bo bar was good for lunch and a drink and reasonably priced but didn’t serve food in the evening – all the other restaurants in the village were ok for an evening meal but did get quite busy. There was a local Supermarche, Boucherie and Boulangerie about 15 minutes walk from Cro Bique with a larger supermarche (Casino) on the way to Sarlat. Also a small boulangerie in Beynac village.
There are lots of great places to visit i.e., Sarlat, Montpazier, La Roque-Gageac, St Cyprien to name but a few.
If you require a good Vet we can strongly recommend Dr Thibault de Jongh, Clinique Veterinaire, Sarlat who speaks extremely good English and extremely helpful. This practice is just before the main Casino supermarket on the left hand side coming from Beynac.
All in all, we found Cro Bique a perfect base for visiting the Dordogne and our thanks and appreciation to Gabriella and Ofer who ensured that everything was perfect for their guests and even provided a nice welcome pack which also included treats for our dog. Thank you to Gabriella and Ofer and look forward to returning in the future. Paul, Pauline and Archie (Border Terrier). P.S. Apologies for delay in reviewing but our internet has been down.
We had great hopes for our time in the Dordogne, and our stay in Beynac easily exceeded them. The house was exceptionally comfortable. Gabriella and Ofer were perfect hosts and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. They always responded within hours to email messages, were exceptionally accommodating, were very straightforward and easy to deal with, and helped ensure that our visit was a great success. (They both speak excellent English.)
The house was very comfortable. The view from their deck, where we would sometimes have breakfast and dinner, is incredible. One looks across a valley at unspoiled farms and hills appearing much as they did a century ago. The kitchen has all the essentials and enabled us to prepare our meals with ease. The main bathroom is very well designed (unlike some others encountered in our trip.) It was very helpful to have the second WC, when a second couple stayed with us.
We were there for two weeks, and there is so much to do and enjoy that we would love to return and stay again at Cro Bique. Although the house is in a tranquil rural setting, the town of Beynac is just a few minutes away. The beautiful towns of La Roque, Domme, and Sarlat are also close, and the exceptional cave art of Lascaux II and Rouffignac can be reached by an easy and pleasant drive. We also enjoyed the excellent, moderately priced restaurants in Beynac, La Roque, and Sarlat.
Thank you Gabriella and Offer for making our vacation so exceptional!
As regular cottage holiday makers, we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful locaton of the property. Whilst being away from the tourist trap of Beynac village, it was not isolated and within easy walking distance, yet still commanded spectacular views of the countryside with no traffic on the road leading to the property. The forest reaching the rear of the property meant that wildlife was in abundance. We saw red squirrels, woodpeckers, golden oriole, tawny owl and many more from the comfort of the sun loungers.
Gabrielle and Offa could not be more welcoming and left lots of delicious food and wine waiting for us on our arrival. Thank you Offa for imparting your local knowledge which helped us find some of the regions hidden gems and avoided the traffic jams. The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable with all living requirements catered for. The bed was also comfortable with plenty of spare blankets and plenty of towels for the bathroom.
The castle is lit up at night which can be seen from our bedroom window and in early morning the hot air baloons rise up from behind the castle.
My lasting memory of Crobique is the lack of any noise other than the wind chimes and bird song, with the occasional tractor in the far distance. Thank you to both Gabrielle and Offa for a wonderful stay.
