In addition to the convenient island in the kitchen that seats 3, dine with your family inside at the table (seats 8) or on the deck with amazing views of the lake. Enjoy the deck, private dock, row boat, kayaks, swimming dock, puzzles/board games, and basic cable TV (w/HDMI).
Wake up with your morning coffee along the waters edge with panoramic views of Oxbow Bay, the main lake, and the surrounding Green Mountains. End the night sitting lakeside, roasting marshmallows around a spacious campfire in the stone fire-pit.
Ski Regions: For those skiing enthusiasts, there are 7 major ski resorts (Killington, Bromley, Okemo, Stratton, West Mt, Pico, and Mt Snow) located within 1 hour driving time from the lake house.
Fishing: Fish right from the dock or bring your boat and enjoy the entire lake. There's an abundance of trout, pike, and bass. You can purchase your license online or at the local marina.
License Requirements:
Anyone fishing, in possession of, or transporting fish taken in Vermont waters or the Vermont/New Hampshire waters of the Connecticut River must be properly licensed and must carry the license on his/her person.
Boating: You can launch a boat from the state park or from the Fish and Game launching site at the bridge that divides the main lake from the Little Lake (free). This is a fine place to also launch a sail boat, a jet ski or a canoe.
Bird-watching and Hiking: There is a nesting couple of bald eagles on the main lake. Red wing Black birds live in a beautiful undeveloped wetland between the main lake and the Little Lake. Blue Herons are all over, ring bill gulls are on almost every raft. Other birds seen recently: Red tail hawks, pileated woodpeckers, loons (spring and fall), belted kingfishers, common mergansers, Baltimore orioles, gold finches, and more....
The right of way of the old B & M railway runs between West Pawlet and Castleton. The rails were torn up and now it's a biker and hikers trail. There is almost no road free of bikers from Spring through Fall. Several biking companies run regular tours in the region. Check out the Green Mountain Club for area hiking trails with breath-taking scenic views.
Shopping: Quaint shops such as the Wells Country Store or Otto's Cones Point General Store are some of the local favorites. Take the scenic drive to Manchester, Vt and enjoy a day at the designer outlets. The drive alone is worth the trip but at the end, you'll land in a picturesque Vermont town laden with designer outlets and delicious eateries. Grocery stores are located within 15 minutes at near by Granville NY or Poultney VT.
