Great Poconos getaway
Loved our stay here. The house was perfect, loved being right on the lake, tons of amenities, close to lots of activities, great communication from the owner as well.
The house was great for our family which included 6 adults and 5 kids. Check-in was a breeze and the owner was easy to communicate with.
Perfect for a relaxing week!
Property was exactly as described. Our family had a great relaxing week at this little lake front oasis!

Cleaning and Repairs Required
Property was not prepared for guests: We were 8-adults, 3-children, and an infant.
Upon arrival, we found broken entrance stairs and sliding door screens, a season's worth of dust and dirt on the Dining Room ceiling fan/blades, double closet doors missing knobs, outside furniture stacked up and not cleaned - some broken, one paddle boat inoperable, only 4 life vests total (infant/child/medium/large) for five boats. Many lamp bulbs blown out. Old dishwasher, soaked charcoal bags, and half broken pallet with nails exposed in the back yard (lake side) of the house. The siding and window sills were covered in spider/cob webs, broken window screens/trash under the crawlspace, some bedroom walls and doors had large scuff marks (from moving furniture perhaps), all windowsills inside and out were covered in dirt and debris discovered when opening to create a breeze (No A/C).
My wife and I (the parents of the family gatherers) arrived a day earlier than the rest ... be we had no rest as the overseas owner does not respond in the first day or two of an inquiry and the local number (a relative) he gave us for service issues was the likely individual who took no responsibility in assuring the property was properly opened/ready for the rental season. We took it upon ourselves to at least remove the hazards of the dinning room ceiling fan, the pallet full of exposed nails, and some of the more important light bulbs such as the outside entrance and inside stairway before the children arrive. However, we did send an email to the owner shortly after the initial inspection stating that he would not be happy hearing how the caretaker left the property for the unsuspecting vacationer, and I have 40 photos as examples.
Given the cost of the (four-night minimum) rental compared to the condition of the property, a reasonable person would expect that some amount of refund is definitely in order!
As of this review, the website is not a good depiction the current condition of the property; neither inside nor out! Once grand no doubt, this property has seen its better days...
Finally, we did not check for the most current reviews prior to the deadline for the return of deposit, so please remember to never make that mistake.
I certainly don’t want to go into depth on here and I’m sure we will have opportunity to discuss this further to reach a fair solution.
I too was upset that you found these concerns; the only dust that was remaining was the dust on the fan and the outside windowsills, and as much as it is disappointing that that was forgotten about the rest of the house was not. I have no idea where or why the door knobs were taken. They were there two months ago.
The outside is inexcusable and we expected that to be taken care of. That being said, sometimes we don’t know these problems unless we are told and when we are told we will always respond and react as best we can. The back area is now cleaned and the dirty chairs were to be thrown out - there was twelve other good chairs to be used. The life vests were in a closet.
All this I could have told you and fixed the other problems if you had reached out on arrival and not departure. You told me separately that the email didn’t send and my father in law you said you called said he didn’t speak to you. Wrong number?!
I live an hour away and could have had many of these concerns fixed and even alternative accommodation if it was that extreme for you both. Successful HomeAway renting is about community and communication. Disappointing it was, but it was also fixable in a couple of hours.
I hope the other reviews represent the true scope of this house and how we react appropriately when the rare mishaps do occur. The items have been addressed, new floors installed last year and new beds last week - we have made the property better not worse.
I do however hate that you had a negative experience.
