Jon really made us feel at home in his fabulous tri-level home. The pictures simply don't do it justice. It was modern, spotless, well maintained, and had all the essentials you'd expect like towels and soap, pots and pans, etc... He even left us coffee and donuts! He was always available by phone or text and responded timely.
Jon is a real class act, and we expect to return to his home whenever our travels take us to Chicago.
All 4 members of our group agreed - nicer than nearly any hotel in town!
We quickly booked a one-night stay, but wish we could have enjoyed this Wicker Park beauty for a few more nights!
The owners care about their home and it shows. They also care about your stay, and make available any creature comfort you could want. Jon and Meg were very sweet, and showed us around when we checked in. This personal touch served two purposes: We became instantly familiar with the operation of the house (Which was great since we didn't have a few days 'learning curve'), and we could see that we clearly were staying in someone's home, and not a typical rental. But we seamlessly moved in, and felt right at home thanks to their warm greeting.
Everyone in our party of 5 had plenty of room, with the beds and bathrooms sprinkled among the 3 levels. The hot tub is a great additional getaway, and adds to the big feel of a what is a relatively small footprint. The common spaces are really cozy, and everywhere is a poetic mix of modern meets tradition.
The neighborhood is great. Walking to shopping and dining is a breeze during good weather, and we were 20 minutes from downtown either driving or on the Blue Line.
Thank-you for letting us experience your home!
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful house in a great part of Chicago. Jonathan and his family were lovely and a delight to work with. I would highly recommend this location!
The visited Chicago for a week and the house was perfect for our family, six adults and a toddler. The play room in the basement was a big hit for the little one. Jon was excellent in communication, very flexible and the house has everything a family need to spend a vacation time in Chicago. We arrived after a long long flight and we found fresh flowers and fancy pastry waiting for us!!!. Quiet and safe neightborhood close to everywhere in Chicago. I highly recommend for families and certainly we will come back next time in Chicago. thanks Jon.
This home is every bit as beautiful as the pictures show, if not more. The very kind homeowners and their adorable little ones greeted us with open arms and were more than helpful. They were extremely responsive and eager to answer any questions we had. This is their primary residence, so as the other reviewer mentioned they (obviously) have all of their belongings there, but it was no bother, and plenty of storage space was available for our six day stay. Also, because it is their home it is much better maintained than most rentals, so for that reason it is a great place to stay! We were traveling with our infant and two year old, so the set up of this beautiful home could not have been more perfect for us, so highly recommended if traveling with kids as well, which is so hard to find. My two year old could not have been more excited to play with all the new toys and play "ting tong" in the basement ;) The neighborhood was so much fun, with great local places to eat and tons of shopping you can walk to! Super close to public transport, my husband was working downtown and got there easily every morning. Don't have a single complaint! Highly recommend! Also LOVED the Stan's Donuts!
Overall I would say this property is very nice and spacious. It was modern and there was plenty of room for the 6 adults and two toddlers that stayed for the 6 days and 5 nights that we were in Chicago. Wicker Park is a great neighborhood in Chicago that we all enjoyed. I would have to say that although the owner is very nice, he has something to learn about renting property. He was extremely particular about his home which is a good thing, but not very practical when opening your home to strangers. He did not clear any space in his closets, drawers, pantry or refrigerator. There were 8 of us living there for 6 days so we needed to make space for our things. He later emailed me and told me that by placing his personal possessions to the side to make room for our own items, that we "invaded his privacy". A shower curtain rod was not properly hung in the basement bathroom and when I texted him that it fell, he was unresponsive. He made comments that a cup and glass were found in one of the bedrooms, but had originally told me not to worry about cleaning because a cleaning crew (which we paid for) would be coming after our stay. I think that this property owner needs to understand the concept that he is willingly and intentionally allowing people in his home. I've stayed in many rental properties over the last several years and have never been made to feel like I was being intrusive. This owner needs to make things more accessible and comfortable so that it truly is a "home away" from home.
