My wife and I stayed here for about three weeks, and found it small but comfortable. The owners were very accommodating, though we rarely saw them. The cottage is attached to the house by a solid wall. We had to be a little creative in finding places for everything and in cooking. We cooked most of our own meals in the microwave/convection oven, on the two hot plates, or on the gas grill outside. There is no regular oven with burners and no broiler. The house and furnishings were clean and in good shape. The bed was large and very comfortable, perhaps better than our own. The lanai with the umbrella was pleasant and inviting, so we often ate lunch and breakfast there. There is a room air conditioner in the bedroom, but we never turned it on. The ceiling fan and natural wind circulation was adequate. The street is very nice and quiet, but we could usually hear construction noise during the daytime from condominium construction on the next street. We often walked around town, as it is 1/2 mile from the edge of Kailua Beach Park and about 3/4 mile from the main part of downtown Kailua.
Don't miss the Farmer's markets: Thursday morning 9-10 on Kainalu St (just farm goods), Thursday evening 5-7:30 downtown behind California Pizza Kitchen and Longs Drugs, and Sunday mornings on Kuulei Rd in front of the elementary school and next to the library. The second two have farm goods, food vendors and entertainment.
we had a 2 night stopover between sydney and san francisco. this place was perfect - excellent beach within walking distance, a whole foods nearby to buy easy meals, a quiet environment for getting over jetlag, and clean. i will definitely stay again on our next trip through hawaii.

Aloha, this was not our first experience booking a rental in Hawaii. Our stay at Kim and Tom's vacation rental was everything we expected. The rental has all the upgrades; is very clean, safe , and quiet (with the exception of a crowing rooster a couple mornings which we enjoyed hearing ). Kim was excellent with communications leading up to our stay. The rental was equipped with everything we needed and everything was in good working order. The location is very convenient to the beach and local markets. In December the weather couldn't have been better. As we had hoped the trade winds kept temperatures mild. Although A/C is available, in our nine days there we had no need of it. We appreciate the privacy we had while knowing Kim was just a text message away or a knock on her door. We were very satisfied with our stay and would definitely stay again based on our experience. Mahalo, Mike & Kyong Ye R.
I always love places which are close and convenient to the beach and groceries WITHOUT alot of traffic. This property (located at the end of a cul-de-sac) is just that place. Originally, my friend and I felt the 1BR and the futon in the living space was a bit tight. However, the ability to spread out into the enclosed front patio was perfect. We so appreciated the thoughtfulness of the owner re: offers to assist with purchasing groceries on the first day, texting us when the space was available AND the welcome feel of space when we arrived - music and lights on, welcome basket on the kitchen island, sundries in the bathroom, ... all said ALOHA ! My friend commented more than once re: how CLEAN the space was. The vintage feel with updated amenities was a delight. We'd stay at a property by this owner again but might consider one of their larger units.
Was able to walk to Kailua Beach, restaurants and farmers markets. Each corner of this private oasis has something thoughtful that made our stay comfortable and convenient.
