We spent 8 nights the last week of October. Because we wanted to spend time "living" in a SF neighborhood for a change (as opposed to staying in a small hotel), we chose to go through HomeAway and found this neat little apartment on Telegraph Hill within walking distance of wonderful coffee shops, bars, restaurants and shops in North Beach, below Coit Tower, near Washington Square park (with locals doing Tai Chi), and St. Peter and Paul Church. This location requires that you are comfortable climbing steep hills. Muni transportation options are very close by. The apartment is in a quiet location and overlooks rooftops with views of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. At night St. Peter & Paul Church is lit up and lovely. The apartment, while sparsely decorated, was comfortable and quite clean. The kitchen was well equipped and had 2 windows overlooking a small back patio with table and chairs. The shower provided plenty of hot water. The owner was a bit hard to contact quickly but was very nice to deal with. We definitely will plan to stay there again.
Restaurant recommendations: Tony's Pizza Napoletana has excellent fried artichokes and the New Yorker pizza is amazing. We ate at the bar (twice!) with our favorite bartender, Jose.
Cafe Trieste has delicious cappuccinos and pastries. It is a famous, old neighborhood bohemian cafe. Great for hanging out.
Original Joe's was a favorite bar (serving good food) with great, friendly bartenders
Molinari's Delicatessen, on Columbus (bought a deli sandwich and wine for a picnic lunch at Crissy Field overlooking Golden Gate Bridge)
Other great neighborhood places we ate: Cafe Jacqueline, Park Tavern,
Other great places we enjoyed. Dotty's True Blue Care, Swan Oyster Depot, Slanted Door, Tru Normand, Sam's Grill
We loved this cozy apartment in Telegraph Hill during our visit to San Francisco. Our son had moved to North Beach last year and this was our first visit to see his new adopted home. The apartment was perfect for two of us and would have accommodated one or two more on the sofa bed if needed! We arrived to find the apartment clean, comfortable, and well appointed!! The neighborhood was adorable! Right in the shadow of Coit Tower, this apartment had lots of great restaurants, coffee shops and even a local organic marker nearby! We visited on Columbus Day weekend which provided the charm of the North Beach parade on Monday and Fleet Week provided a personal Blue Angels show right outside our window!! We loved the little patio out back but ended up not using it as we enjoyed our view of the Golden Gate Bridge right out the front window!! We highly recommend this property and hope to go back again soon!!!! P.S. The hills are quite a work out but they gave us license to indulge in all of the wonderful SF cuisine!!!
This apartment was in the middle of everywhere we wanted to go. It was well appointed and fit our needs.
This apartment was great---nice, safe, clean, convenient neighborhood.
The only hitches were lack of promised parking space for about 18 hours (not owners fault, but no great remedy was had except our moving the car a few times) and the code didn't work to unlock the door. We were locked out upon arrival for at least an hour with no response from owner, but again, not the end of the world.
Other than that, we had a great stay.
This was an awesome location with a very local feel (if you're not used to close quarters city living, then be aware that footsteps above and hallway voices are part of the deal).
The owner sent a good detailed check-in email, but not until the morning of check-in, which is the first time I had heard from him since the payment confirmation email despite an earlier request for quick info so we could better plan our stay.
We had booked for 2 adults and 1 child, and the owner had explained the sleeper sofa was a little off, but that it could still be used with specific instructions. Well, we followed those instructions exactly, and it was still not usable as a double bed. My daughter slept on the couch just fine, but good thing she was small! Also, there were a few small things around the apartment that needed to be fixed, but nothing that really inconvenienced us (except for the bed).
Awesome food within walking distance. Awesome. For those with a car, be aware the garage is on Green Street and is on a fairly steep angle to negotiate into, and is small (but typical for SF). The patio out back is nice and quiet, and we enjoyed wine and snacks out there every afternoon after a full day of sightseeing.
Overall a great stay, and would recommend.
The small apartment had everything we needed while we were in SF, including a very nice professional grade kitchen. It was a fantastic jumping-off point for about 80% of our stay. We were able to visit Chinatown, Fisherman's Warf, Coit Tower - all by walking. There were an amazing amount of restaurants & coffee shops nearby. We walked and/or used Uber with no issues to visit all other venues which included the Golden Gate Bridge and Botanic Gardens. I really appreciated the flavor of staying in a neighborhood as opposed to a hotel. We'll stay here again if we get back to SF in the future!
