Meu Glacier House é perfeito para famílias para explorar verdadeiramente o deserto.
Where to begin? This could not be a more perfect base for a Glacier vacation! First, the beautiful log cabin! Second, the most gracious and lovely host, Penny! Lastly, it is perfectly situated to be able to indulge in the beauty of Glacier National Park. We visited and hiked 5 of the 7 regions of the park, easily coming "home" each night to this beautiful cabin. Fully equipped kitchen allowed us to make breakfast, pack trail lunches and enjoy wine by the fireplace while we made dinners. A little bit of heaven disguised as a VRBO!
We were very happy with our stay at Penny's Glacier house. It was relaxing and enjoyable to be surrounded by the beautiful logs of the cabin and Penny's antiques. She is a gracious host, and we enjoyed the special touch of the cut flowers each day.
My husband, mother, and friend stayed at My Glacier House the end of August thru the beginning of September. We enjoyed the cabin very much. First of all, it was very clean. The upstairs bedroom loft area has screens, but no real rooms. Perfect for groups and big families. The furniture is a lovely eclectic mix of antiques. Second, the location is just about halfway between East and West Glacier and we went both ways. We even traveled the 3 hours north to Canada's section of the park. Third, the owner, Penny, is usually puttering around her garden during the day, so she was available for questions and suggestions. Of course, the park is beautiful, but at the end of the day, it was great to get back to the comfort of the cabin and relax with a meal and a glass of wine.
What a wonderful home away from home experience. The log house was exactly what you'd be looking for in a true Montana experience with all of the conveniences of a modern home. Penny, the homeowner, is a wonderful person. Although she lives in the property she gives you all of the privacy you want but is available if needed. She is a valuable resource for your outdoor adventures. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if we ever came back.
Really enjoyed our experience - the house is really cute and Penny provided a heap of really helpful information. Very peaceful location to enjoy the Glacier national park from which.
We enjoyed our stay at My Glacier house and Glacier National. We had never been west or to the mountains so it was very different to our way of life!
The mountain roads were a wee bit intimidating to me at first, but the views are stunning! Penny's cabin has cast iron skillets, a claw foot tub, and other cooking utensils that reminded me of my my great-grandmother's house! Penny showed my teenage daughters where to find the baking goods needed to make shortbread cookies. Take the time to talk with Penny about the area as she is a wealth of knowledge regarding her garden, the park, Montana and the Indian reservation. I liken it to a bed and breakfast experience where the host/hostess is so familiar with the culture--yet, we had our own cabin. I love to learn about the places we visit. The place is also eclectic. You will see antique farming equipment, abstract painting and Native American pieces.
Do realize that Glacier National is a large park. To get to West Glacier from the cabin is about 30 minutes, and to East Glacier is about 40-ish minutes. What this means is some locations such as Many Glacier can be an hour and a half drive. Just be aware. This is not due to the location of the cabin, rather the park itself. We spent a solid 8 days at Glacier and our family of five with three teenage children hiked 45 miles for an elevation gain of 7,000 feet! Not bad for Marylanders who live at sea level ;)
Here are some thoughts to help future visitors enjoy the cabin:
1. Find the mile marker on route 2. I believe it is near 172. The house is tricky the first time, but worth the peace and solitude. There are other houses around, so you are not alone!
2. When she says the Internet is limited...it is. She has books and games, but take time to bring things you love. We brought UNO, scrabble and I brought sketch books and watercolor. Likelihood is that you will spend breakfast and dinner at cabin, but take the time to wrangle your teens into some quality time.
3. We live at 39 feet of elevation at home. When starting at 3500 feet and hiking 2,000 ft elevation gains...you will be challenged, it is okay and the end result is great, but if not used to this, be prepared to have shortness of breath, maybe headaches. We all had mental breakdowns at some point at Logan's Pass which is like 6700 feet. Looking back, the complaints about insomnia and stuff may have been a tad bit due to elevation. This is probably normal and expected.
