Thank you Mary Rose. My top priority in selecting a cabin was water views, sounds, smells at a reasonable cost. This cottage provided it all. The setting is beautiful. We had a wonderful time exploring the area from the cottage. Everything, is as described. We were arriving at night fall and the directions were easy to follow. The beach and trail down the road is an added plus. We enjoyed at sunset! Gorgeous!!!!
We were very satisfied with our stay at this cottage. Everything was clean and comfortable. The property is very secluded and surrounded by forest that runs right up to the edge of the water. The view from the front porch looking out over the sound is fantastic. The small villages in the area are full of friendly and helpful people. One of the most relaxing vacations I have had. If you are looking for a place to get away from the traffic and bustle of urban life, this is the place.
The cottage is super cute and very comfortable! it is spacious enough for multiple people to enjoy comfortably, but also quaint enough for just the two of us! The views from the deck are spectacular and the beach down the road is breathtaking and there never seems to be anyone there - it's like having your own private beach. We spent every day there and got to see the sun go down at one of the most beautiful places I've ever witnessed - just the two of us. Everything was wonderful, not many attractions within a close distance, but the wildlife and scenery are worth it! If you are willing to drive a little ways there are bigger towns with wonderful attractions and shops that are perfect for day trips. Local lobsters and blueberries area must have! The entire experience was wonderful and i would highly recommend this secluded getaway!
This is a wonderful cabin directly on the shore. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking pots and utensils. We bought lobsters, clams and fresh haddock all within a few miles of the cabin. We hiked at Wass Island Preserve, on Beals Island, which was amazing. If you like to hike, don't miss it. Just watching the tide roll in and out from the front porch was relaxing. We truly enjoyed our one week stay, and would have requested another week had we not known it was already rented. I would recommend this rental to anyone who likes to be away from all the crowds in southern Maine.
This rustic cabin was well maintained and well equipped. However, one must remember to bring queen sheets and towels!
The ever-changing harbour views can be enjoyed even more by way of the telescope thoughtfully provided. The library at Addison has two Apple computers for public use (open Wed and Sat only!) and good cell phone reception can be had at the near end of the Cape Split Island bridge. I also got some Wi-Fi connection at the 4-Corners supermarket in Columbia.
The nearest post office is at Addison. Fresh lobsters available in So. Addison.
A road map of Maine is a big help when exploring the surroundings! Don't miss the quaint town of Jonesport, and the Bayview Seafood, home of the "Best Lobster Roll in Maine & Massachusetts" with picnic tables overlooking the harbour. The Library in Jonesport also has public computers. Owners Mary Rose and John Pray stocked a goodly number of entertainment videos, and reading material, and are very helpful with any questions. By the way, the kitchen comes with a good supply of basic necessities and spices. Jamie, the local house manager, is also quite helpful.
All in all, after two weeks on the road, a week in this calming place was exactly what we needed!
what a great place to get away and enjoy a true "Downeast" vacation. This cottage is clean and cozy, with all the amenities needed to make yourself at home. The telescope looking out over the bay provided hours of entertainment, such as watching the lobster boats at work and seals and eagles doing their thing.
Opportunities to hike the BoldCoast are close by .,.,., paddling the bays or numerous freshwater lakes are all close by .,.,., seafood markets and restaurants are close by(our favorite was Helens in Machias)..,,., we even found a couple sand beaches on the ocean.
Thank you Mary for opening your cottage to us for a wonderful week!!!
