Making our first family trip to the New England area, we planned on skiing/snowboarding at Killington... but also wanted an opportunity to enjoy the local community highlights. We couldn't have made a better choice as this house was exactly what we were looking for. Wallingford is a quaint and pleasant locale and the house was cozy and comfortable. During our stay, it snowed quite a bit but we enjoyed every modern amenity and experienced no inconveniences. Even though the house was well heated... we especially enjoyed the classic Dutch stove in the living room as winter storm Orson bellowed outside. The owners were very accommodating and provided us with suggestions and additional information about things to do in the area. Enjoyed dining and shopping in Rutland, and Manchester...both within reasonable traveling distance. The whole experience was simply so much better than the churn and congestion associated with lodging in the primary ski areas.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The home was lovely, clean and well appointed. We had very hot days but the window fans did a good job keeping the house cool. We loved exploring the area. We will be back!!
A group of friends and family stayed in the house for a long holiday weekend for snowboarding at Killington, a short drive away.
During the weekend, the temperatures hit a low of -16, but we were more than warm and comfortable in the house. The owners provided space heaters in every room, extra linens, and more than enough wood to keep the fire going. We enjoyed spending our nights around the wood stove which was located in an open space connected to the dining room, making sure there was enough room for everybody! The kitchen was well stocked with all cooking utensils, and we enjoyed the use of all the cast iron equipment.
The area was close to several grocery stores and good eats!
Tracy was readily available in case any problems arose!
Overall great place and great hosts!
We had a fantastic stay in the Wallingford house over Christmas 2014. Over he 10 days we were there we went skiing at both Killington and Okemo, went sightseeing in the area around and generally had a great time.
The property has a really nice feel about it and was very cosy with the wood burner giving a real heart to the place. The house is very well equipped and we easily managed to produce a Christmas dinner for the 5 of us.
There was plenty of information provided by Tracy both before we arrived and in the house itself. We particularly enjoyed a day shopping in Manchester, which was a lot nicer than most outlet locations and had a particularly outdoor shop and bookstore (worth a day in its own right). We also went further afield to the north which has plenty of scenery - we particularly liked the small town of Castleton and its diner.
The skiing was really good despite it being early season. Killington felt a little busy and frenetic, but Okemo Mountain was empty and really friendly (we were even given free hot chocolates one day as we all looked a little cold).
All in all we would recommend the house and felt it worked really well for us as a family with older teenagers (wifi and Netflix being essentials).
My husband and I needed an anniversary vacation so we left the wee one with grandma and drove across the beautiful New England countryside to a delightful little town called Wallingford. It is situated between Manchester, known for its excellent high end outlet shopping, and Rutland, where we had many tasty meals from various local restaurants. Rutland also houses plenty of big box retailers and a picturesque downtown area. We also managed to sneak in a quick overnight trip to Boston via the Rutland Airport - incredibly convenient.
The house was easy to find and is a stones throw from the town's main drag. Cute shops and a handful of restaurants dote along Main Street where we came upon an amazing local eatery called Sal's South. I enjoyed their mushroom parmigiana appetizer and cheese steak on more than one occasion!
The property itself is warm and inviting. Comfy and private bedrooms are housed on the second level along with a beautiful claw footed tub in the bathroom. Lots of fun product samples to try out as well as big soft towels.
The main floor has a wonderful library that boasts an amazing book collection. You would think that many great thoughts were pondered here by the energy of this room! The living room and dining room areas are well suited for entertaining or even just lounging around. The kitchen has an old country feel partnered with everything modern you would need to cook up a homemade supper.
Overall I was very happy and well rested after my stay here - probably the best sleep I have had in a long long time. I frankly spent most of my time lounging and just relaxing at home with trips out to either shop or eat. It was a home away from home. I will definitely be visiting again to check out the area come winter!
