Perfect setting for a quiet, laid back vacation

I spent 11 days at 46 school street. I brought my small dog with me. We spent our days walking around the cute little town. The house is a block from the "main street" of town and I walked everywhere. The 5 and 10 store had everything and greeted us with a smile every day! The local grocery and the seasonal daily farmers market, the "lobstah" coop, the sandwich shop...Everything about this town was awesome!

The house was very comfortable and fit my needs well. There are two huge picture windows that face the quiet harbor. I saw bald eagles every day. It was very relaxing watching the tide go in and out. There was no moon for several nights and the sky filled with bright stars. What a show!

I recommend this house to single travelers or couples. A small family would also be comfortable here. There are two bedrooms downstairs but I didn't use them.

I made some incredible memories during my stay! Thanks Elizabeth!

Beautiful location, peaceful and private, all while being close by to anything you may need.

What a beautiful place to spend a few days with my family. We felt right at home and were so pleased with the area and to have our own cottage on the water was just the best. The first night we were there an eagle flew over head. We were within walking distance of fishing boats, restaurants, the 5&10. Schoodic Penninsula was amazing. This is definitely a place we would stay again, a true home away from home. Thank you Elizabeth for making our stay so special.

A great place!

The cottage is absolutely charming! It is located next to the water . The view is magnificent. Try to arrive before it gets dark - our GPS made us take a wrong turn. We had a great time . Thank you Elizabeth.

Wonderful!

We spent several wonderful days at Elizabeth's home. It was spotless, quiet, convenient, and very relaxing. Everything we needed was there (except toilet paper, which was probably an over site). We really enjoyed everything about it. We are planning another trip back to Winter Harbor (as I am writing this) and we are hoping we will be able to stay at this home again. Thank you Elizabeth. beautiful view, property in need of refurbishing

I recently spent 5 weeks at this listing. The view was beautiful and I was pleased that I was able to bring my dogs with me. Other than that, this rental isn't what I expected. The home has not been well maintained. The split rail fence and wooden access to the cove beach are in poor repair.The stairs are unusable and the split rail fence is broken. Dangerous if anyone should lean on it there is quite a drop to the beach.

When I entered the house it was nicely decorated with cut flowers but throw rugs hide a very dirty and smelly carpet. I sat in a chair close to the picture window and couldn't sit there as the smell on the chair was so bad. The living room furniture is worn, cushions worn out and sofa is covered in a throw. I couldn't get the living room TV to work and neither could the owner's neice who was sent to fix it. I was told to take time from my vacation to call the cable company to have them help me fix it. The master bedroom mattress is in good condition but again, the TV did not work in this room; I was able to find a simple fix by taking my camara batteries out and putting them in the remote. The cove side storm door screws came out and the door would not sit in the frame. Owner sent someone to fix this in a timely manner. Sink stopper does not work nor is there an electric plug in the bathroom to plug in a hair dryer. Early in my stay I was advised by the owner that she hadn't known the tax had gone up and then asked me to assume the additional cost rather then a sound business practice of assuming that loss since it was her own error.

The water for the house is connected to her outside facet and if you use the hose it is easy to loose water to the house. As I didn't want to pay her cleaning woman extra to clean for me I agreed to do my own cleaning. The very dated tank vaccum vac. bag was full of dirt and I needed to change it out. I attempted to vaccuum daily as I do at home, but this vaccum hardly moved dog hair from this very old, worn , wall to wall carpeting. The owner is now blaming me for " excessive cleaning and damage to her home" reporting that my newly bathed dogs are the cause of the smell in the home and is accusing me of damaging her storm door, is charging me the addtional tax that she reported she stated she didn't know had been increased by the state of Maine. If all you want is a view then this is the place. In my opinion, this house is not a good value and the owner needs to do basic maintence and repairs.

Resposta do proprietário: I respond to Regina Z's review with information to correct her version of events. She had no complaints during her stay, other than those I addressed immediately, until after she left and learned of the excessive cleaning charge. Regina notified me that the TV did not work. I called the cable company to ask of outages; there were none. I emailed Regina about the cable services, the remotes, gave help numbers for her to call. She responded: “I really don’t want to bother with the cable company, but thanks.” I also said the cable company wanted to call her, but she refused. My response to her TV complaint was more than adequate, but she refused help. I used the TV the day she left, and it worked perfectly. Regina called me with a problem about the water. The head of the town water department arrived within a half hour to fix the problem. Regina had no complaints about the rug until after she left. I offered my cleaning lady during her stay, but she wanted to clean herself. She never complained about the vacuum, which the cleaners and I used the day she left with no problems. Regina has three dogs, and dog hair was all over the furniture and the carpeting, requiring extra hours of cleaning. I hired a professional rug cleaning company to finish the cleanup for $429.00, who tested and confirmed the dog urine stains we discovered after Regina left. Before her arrival, I explained that the stairs to the beach were unusable due to a severe spring storm. After 40 years with no problem, the stairs were damaged with erosion nearby. However, there is easy access to the shoreline close to the stairs by a gradual path. During her stay, an EPA officer met with my contractor regarding the restoration of shoreline and steps, now in the federal permitting process. On 6/23/16, I told her the sales tax was 9%, not 8%. She agreed to pay an extra $49.77 from her security deposit. After she left, she refused to pay the sales tax. Regina's dogs left many urine stains on the lawn near the entrance. We treated the grass for urine and reseeded, but the lawn looks badly. Regina said the storm door was not closing properly. My carpenter came within a day, and repaired the door within 2-3 days. In summary, complaints Regina made during her stay were addressed immediately. I am looking into her new complaints. I always respond to my renter’s questions and complaints, but I cannot respond to complaints that are not communicated to me.
