What an amazing property!!! The location right on the pristine lake facing west for stunning sunsets, a vast, private beach for swimming or jetting off with one of the six available kayaks and large deck to star gaze at night made for wonderful family memories. The fully stocked house not only left nothing to be desired but the modern amenities: WIFI (for the ones who must be connected at all times,) dishwasher, washer/dryer, BBQ grill and AC made "roughing it in the country" for us city folk more than comfortable, it was truly a home away from home.
Valerie the caretaker was always available if/when needed and extremely hospitable. She gave great recommendations about the area amenities and was a joy to work with when setting up our stay.
The only caveat to our weeklong trip was that we did not see a moose which only gives us a reason to come back again!!!
Really nice house with plenty of amenities; very well stocked. Kayaks were awesome; we were able to explore the lake. Valerie was attentive and very nice.
My friends and I were looking for a place to stay while skiing at Sugarloaf. It's only 7 miles away. The house was very clean and well taken care of. The view of the lake is gorgeous. The kitchen was well stocked and organized. And the bedrooms have quality mattresses. Next time we go to Sugarloaf we are definitely trying to book this place.
A few of the highlights:
-Everything in the house is in tip top shape. Clean and comfortable.
-The kayaks, life jackets, paddles were all perfect.
-Everything (everything!) is labeled and instructions are provided - saves a lot of stress
-The lake and location is amazing - though as beach fans we lucked out with weather and a relatively low water level so we found many spots to explore
-I honestly think the photos in the listing underrepresent the beauty of the spot
-The best-stocked home I have ever rented
With only 3 nights, we really didn't have time to explore the area much. We took the kids to the school playground down the road, and otherwise were on kayaks, beach, dock, deck, or having a campfire at night. Sunsets were amazing and we took kayaks out to watch from the middle of the lake each evening. It was like all the amenities of home were plopped down in the middle of the most amazing lakefront campsite you could imagine.
My family stayed at this beautiful home for the week of July 4 2013. The house is great, clean, and totally renovated. Feels like a newer upscale home. The pictures don't do the home justice Valerie, the manager, was very helpful, and the owners left a welcome basket.
I like to give a full review as a realize that people may travel from afar and should have the best possible idea of what to expect.
The home itself was great. We have stayed at rental homes for many years, and this home may very well be the nicest (with central air as well),. The area is very private. It is set on a very scenic lot with a large yard in the back and the lake in the front.
There were a couple of issues I would like to point out. The water level on Flagstaff Lake varies greatly. At the time we rented the house, there had been a lot of rain, which raised the water level, as a result, the beach, and many of the island beaches, were underwater.
The main problem we had was the mosquito's. We have been going to Maine/NH area for years, but I never had a problem with mosquito's like I did at this home. We used Deet, foggers, Tiki Lamps, none of it helped. I personally counted over 100 mosquito bites, and my 11 year old son, who insisted on going fishing regardless, had many more then that.
I heard from some of the locals, that it was a very rainy year, and there were a lot of mosquito's as a result. We also went to Maine a little earlier then we typically do, which may be the reason why the mosquito's were such a problem.
The only thing that helped somewhat was that Valerie brought over a fire pit and we kept a bonfire going day and night. There were a couple of warmer days and the mosquito's were less of a problem, only being a nuisance at sunset. I would imagine that later in July or August, the mosquito's would be less of a problem.
Overall, the home was great, the manager is great, the lake has good fishing, even off the dock, and while not the best for swimming, it is a great lake for Kayaking with many islands to explore. I feel bad having to mention the mosquito problem, as otherwise everything was great, but they literally drove us indoors for 4 days of our stay.
It is a great place for the winter (near Sugerloaf) and probably a great place in mid/end of July through August. but for early July or late June the mosquito's are a real problem. Perhaps building bat houses may help
We stayed here twice, once this winter and once last winter (not sure if I have the exact date).
This is a stunning and roomy immaculate home, well equipped and with a fantastic view. I would go back in a second.
Great amenities, all really clean, surrounded by quiet woods and right by the lake - who could ask for more? We took our whole family to enjoy the beautiful outdoors, and used all four bedrooms. There was lots of space for us.
We didn't mind the 10 min. drive to Sugarloaf, since there was terrific skiing and it's really close.
Valerie was very sweet and a helpful manager. We look forward to coming back!
