Beautiful tropical oasis!

This place is truly special. The grounds are an incredible tropical botanical garden! Our three teenagers loved watching the boars who passed through every morning and evening, and we were thoroughly charmed by “Stella”, the kitten who checked in on us regularly.

The house is beautiful and fun and quirky. I loved discovering new details throughout the house each day. It was well-equipped and comfortable. We cooked breakfast and dinner there each day, did our laundry, and enjoyed the hot tub on the deck.

When we first arrived, we were greeted by Michael and given a brief tour of the place. We didn’t see him again, and he was responsive to texts when we had questions.

We found the book about the house (located in the kitchen) very helpful with its sample daily itineraries and detailed information about the house and the gardens.

Since we planned to explore the entire island during our 5-day stay, the location was great for us. We didn’t feel the need to be steps away from the perfect beach or have resort-type activities available to us. At the end of each long day of exploration and activity, this tranquil paradise was a place to which we looked forward to returning.

It was a wonderful vacation!

As close to paradise as you can get on earth

We enjoyed that place tremendously, the warmth, the breeze, the smell, the ambiance, the soaking tub and of course the coqui frogs at night. We will be back for sure!

Awesome location! Quiet jungle paradise!

As all the other reviews will say, the gardens have to be seen to be believed. Large open grassy areas, beautiful flowers and colorful plants to wander through, plus fruit and orchards. We spent the evenings walking the property with the kids, and it was totally safe for the kids (2yo, 4yo, 5yo) to explore while we BBQ'd.

They have a small hot tub now which was great, and not on the listing. It is right off the back porch.

Finding it would definitely be easier in the daytime the first time around, but after that you will know right where to go with no issues.

One of the showers does face the back porch with nothing but a sliding glass door for privacy, so with our situation (two families) we just let each other know that one of the adults was going to shower there, or we took turns using the private master bathroom.

We want to go back already. It is definitely on the Hilo side as far as weather, but it was such a relaxing atmosphere to hang out and enjoy. You feel like you are on your own tropical island. We spent a few days here and then drove to Kona side for some sunnier days and it was a perfect combination. The Kona side is not nearly as lush and beautiful, so we were so happy we worked in some "jungle" time.

True paradise

The moment we entered the property through the winding, lava rock filled driveway, we were immediately in awe of the beautiful landscape. Then, upon entering the house we couldn't help but admire the beauty of the interior decor, the furnishings, and the fresh flowers presumably cut recently from the nearby gardens. As we stepped onto the patio balcony (with access from essentially all areas of the home... including the bedrooms and bathroom (yes, through the shower!), we felt we were truly in paradise as we continued to admire the beauty of the patio flowers, nearby gardens and trees, and the distant sight of the pacific. At night, we drifted to sleep to the sounds of the coqui frogs and midnight rain showers, and woke up every morning to the sounds of the Hawaiian birds and rainforest. The property had everything we needed to call this place home (stocked kitchen with most everything needed to cook including spices and hawaiian flavors, gas grill, laundry, beach towels, fins, snorkels, water shoes, etc..). Mike (property manager) greeted us upon arrival, let us know he'd be available if needed but was out of sight otherwise, and even took the time to talk to us about the property and even set up the salt water filled hot tub for us to enjoy. We were free to roam the 20+ acre property and pick any available fruit as we desired (we enjoyed fresh avo's, papaya, and citrus during our stay). You must enjoy nature and wildlife, the beauty of being offgrid and far away from city lights, and know you are essentially in the middle of the rainforest to truly enjoy this escape (ie, geckos surround the home, bugs flock to the lights at night, mongoose and pigs are a daily sight, and the resident cat Stella will accompany you as you're outside). The location was convenient for us to make trips to the volcanos, southern tip of the island, but also make drives towards hilo markets when needed. The nearby markets and eateries are limited in Pahoa, but this wasn't an issue for us since we enjoyed cooking meals at home. Our trip just ended, and we're already looking at our timeline to make another escape to this property. If you like resort style vacations and accommodations, stay away. But if you prefer being in isolation away from it all, accompanied only with nature and the comforts of home...this is true paradise! Thanks again, Mike!

Lovely property!

The property is lovely and the house is open and bright. We had 6 adults and a child and had ample room. We were able to do meal prep easily. Mike was very helpful and always available.

Luxury off the grid

We loved the amazing gardens and made juice from the fresh fruits around the property. The house is beautifully decorated and a peaceful, relaxing setting on a huge private property. We found the house close to the lava hike which was incredible and the restaurants in Pahoa. We'd love to stay longer next time.

Only designated beach towels (orange towels) can be taken off premises.
8. [Water and Septic: The [cabin/property] is on a catchment and septic systems. The septic system is very effective; however, it will clog up if improper material is flushed. DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper.
