We stayed at the property for a week over the New Year's Eve and overall are very satisfied. The owner offered to pick us up from the airport and made sure we are accommodated. The house itself was nothing special and not new, but it was clean and had everything we needed: towels, bath and kitchen stuff, beach chairs, surfboards, toys to play in sand with, table games, and much more including fantastic photography book on history of San Juan. We’ve been also impressed with lovely Christmas and New Year decorations of the kitchen and living room.
The grounds in the complex are very well kept and a pleasure to look at. The area was very quiet except for New Year's eve when seemingly everyone was shooting fireworks. The apartment overlooks a large clean pool, which was almost always empty. Indeed, why would one go to the pool, when you are in 3 minute walking distance of one of the nicer beaches in Puerto Rico?
The complex sits on the nicest beach we have been to while on the island (we have been to about 5 others). Lawns with palm trees (and shower heads for washing off the salt) transition into decently large sandy area. The water has some sand in it near the shore, but you can see your toes once you swim out a bit.
Overall, we are happy with our stay and, in particular, with the close proximity of the property to an excellent beach, Yunque rainforest, and San Juan.
As others have mentioned, this isn't a luxurious beach condo, but it IS a great beach condo - we loved our ten days here. This is exactly the place I would want to get away to the beach on weekends - it's got everything you need to relax - starting with the beautiful beach. Golden sand, blue tropical water, palm trees, the beach practically to yourself most of the time - and the pool is very nice as well - a great bonus.
The condo itself is comfortable, a bit worn around the edges, perhaps, but we felt at ease and right at home, as if it was our place. Lots of pots and pans and utensils and napkins and paper towels and toilet paper and soap and salt and pepper and candles and trash bags and appliances - everything you need if we were going to come here next weekend - with all of the practical things that we've had to buy ourselves at other places.
It's a very quiet place (other than the lawn care crew that spent a day vigorously manicuring the grounds with every motorized piece of equipment possible - starting at 7:00 AM - so just go to the beach or breakfast!) The balcony overlooking the pool is perfect for breakfast or some quiet afternoon reading - and you can hear the waves on the beach.
The nearby food choices range from fun to good - we went to Richie's a couple of times - fun place. We had a delightful breakfast down the hill at Antojitos Puertorriquenos - we'll have dinner there next time. I was in meat heaven at El Verde BBQ, a take out place a little to the west on Route 3 - ribs and chicken were insane - the smell makes your mouth water. Get to La Familia for just their bread alone. Check foodie websites for other great places. The star of the local food scene was the food kiosks at Luquillo Beach, a couple of miles to the east off Rt 3 - the beach at the state park is beautiful (park in the paid parking $5) - walk to the kiosks and get some lunch and an ice-cold Medalla. But at night, it transforms into a great dinner choice - La Parilla #3, Beach BBQ #25 were our favorites - but many more good places and great people watching.
The condo is easy to get to once you've been there one time. Roads are good, traffic is polite. People are without exception genuinely friendly and helpful. Grocery shopping, including beer and liquor, is best at Ralph's - on Route 3 a few miles west.
All told, we truly enjoyed every minute and were sad to leave - it was that nice. Many thanks to Ricky (we didn't meet Maite, but thank you, too!) for the
Ricky and Maite are exceptional. Very responsive before we arrived and during our stay. Maite met us at the Isla Grande airport, drove us to the rental car place, then guided us to the condo. I texted her a couple of times during our stay and heard back immediately.
The location is excellent, although a 45 minute drive from San Juan. We enjoyed the area and spent parts of two days in the rain forest (we learned to time it in the morning, before the afternoon rains). Parking is right in front of condo and you have an electronic opener for the gate in the community. The lovely pool is right below the condo (which is on the second floor). The whole area is very quiet, very few people stay there during the week. The beach is an easy walk, a couple of blocks, through the condo areas. There is plenty of beach equipment at the place.
The kitchen is well equipped--not sumptuous, but adequate. We wished for a blender, but not a problem. Everything in the kitchen works well. There is no dishwasher.
I suggested a few things to them that Maite said they would address: there are three windows that don't operate (the cranks are broken), one of them in the bedroom is important, if you want to run the AC, or if you want to shut out any noise from the parking area. There is no reading lamp anywhere in the living room and the overhead light isn't adequate to read by. The pillows in the bedrooms are very poor (but the beds are good!). The condo was clean and pleasantly decorated, rather plain. We didn't use the second bedroom, which has two sets of bunk beds.
The deck off the kitchen is lovely for meals, drinks, or coffee in the morning. It is never in the sun, which is probably a good thing! TV and wifi work very well.
We were very pleased with the value for money, with just the few annoyances above. There is a book in the condo, but the information about the area isn't very helpful. I think a few more recommendations on places to eat would be welcomed.
We had a really a fantastic time, Ricky is extremely welcoming and helpful, the apartment is very nice and clean, pool right in front of you, beach max 2 minutes to walk, also lots of sand and water toys when you are coming with kids! thanks a lot!!
We spent 10 days at Ricky's place. We had a very relaxing time. The beach is beautiful, the swimming pool is right next to the apartment and we more or less had it to ourselves.
Pros: very nicely situated both within the resort and within Puerto Rico (near El Yunque park, the ferry to Vieques island, San Juan, etc.).
Very quiet resort, really relaxing
Apartment fully equipped (if you like cooking, you have all the major implements to cook with)
Beach toys AND boogie boards in apartment
Ricky is very friendly and helpful. He met up with us to guide us into the complex and showed us all the things we needed to know about the apartment.
Cons: the unit was built in 1989 and If you are looking for new and luxury, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a simple and comfortable place, you won't be disappointed.
Ricardo (owner of the condo) met us at the rental car facility. He is a very kind person, always ready to help you! We were late for 2 hours but Ricardo was waiting all this time! He was contacting car rental personal to send the shuttle to the airport to pick us up! So my advice, never rent the car at "Fox rent a car".
.Ricardo escorted us to the property and show us around. The condo is in a nice, clean, and secure location. Very quiet. Very convenient, close to other attractions, especially if you plan to go snorkeling, or take a ferry to other islands. The condo is equipped with everything you'll ever need. The beach is walking distance and the view s spectacular.
Thanks for everything Ricky!
