Perfect home for a family of four

We recently vacationed to Tahoe to celebrate my husband's birthday along with my in-laws. The house had everything we needed to make this our home for the week. The kitchen is completely stocked with all that you need to cook your meals, the bedrooms are spacious and have very comfortable king size beds, and the heater and fireplace kept the house warm and cozy during the cold winter temperatures. There was never a time that we needed something that we couldn't find somewhere in the house. The house is in a quite private community that is well-kept and located just a few minutes away from the casinos, grocery stores, and mountain lifts. Nancy, the owner of the home, is just wonderful. She was very accommodating, friendly, and compassionate. The week that we were scheduled to vacation happened to be during the time of a massive storm which resulted in several road closures. We ended up having to stay in Carson City our first night until the roads opened back up. Because we missed a day of our vacation, Nancy extended our stay two nights with no charge and any time I needed anything, she was always available and helpful.

My husband's birthday celebration was a memorable one and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the house. Thank you so much Nancy - for everything!

Roomy and comfortable but too many issues

We arrived in the evening to snow and ice covered steps - 2 flights up to entrance - with no working motion sensor lights. And this was not fresh snow. My husband spent an hour cleaning the steps so we could navigate them with some degree of safety. The owner tried to get these issues resolved during our week long stay but ultimately we had to do most of the work and the lights never worked consistently. The owner did give us a night's refund for our troubles.

The condo itself is spacious and comfortable with a lovely living room and fireplace. The kitchen is adequate and there is a nice large dining table. It is in a lovely wooded setting.

We also had problems with the garage door opener and had to call the owner about that. She called to have it repaired and it was fixed after a few days. The issues mentioned really detracted from our experience and there were several cleaning deficiencies as well - inadequate vacuuming, bathroom floor not clean, dirty kitchen cabinet doors and drawer liners in need of replacement. I did not bring these issues up with the owner during our stay because I was already calling repeatedly about the other issues and didn't want to be complaining about

everything.

All that said, the place was quite comfortable and the owner tried to respond to our main issues. The property just needs better maintenance and cleaning.

Resposta do proprietário: I appreciate our guest’s review rating our home as “good”! She called the night of her arrival expressing safety concerns regarding the snow/ice on the stairs and a problem with the exterior lights. She told me that this was old snow that had been walked upon and that the light situation and the snow was unacceptable. I attempted to explain that the cleaning crew walked on it while cleaning that day. On her arrival date Lake Village received two feet of snow and 24 feet of snow during January. Due to the overwhelming snow in Lake Village the staff were not able to clear private decks and no private snow removers were available. I immediately telephoned Lake Village staff to request an urgent work order for the lights. They were able to respond to that request on day 3 of the guest's stay. I spoke to the guest for 20 minutes on 2nd day. She was understandably concerned about the snow/ lighting situation. At that time I offered her a full refund to allow her to go to another home more suitable to her needs. The guest mentioned no issues with regard to cleanliness stating they were comfortable at Tahoma The guest accepted my offer to refund a full days rent, and chose to remain in our home. I asked the guest to take one of the replacement bulbs from the storage area and replace an existing bulb on the front porch light. That temporary repair provided light for the front deck and the lighting was later repaired by the LV staff. Subsequently I was able to hire a man to remove the snow from both decks the stairs. Mrs. Hernandez (our cleaning supervisor) also brought a heavy scraper, cleared the ice and placed ice melt down to limit the ability to reform. On the 3rd day our guest called me regarding difficulty in closing the garage door. It was apparent that it was mechanical issue so I told her how to pull the release handle so that she could use the remote to open the door and how they could use the release pull to close it. Ryan from Alpine garage door responded that same day and determined the opener non repairable.The following day Ryan installed a new $500 opener system. At no time did this guest ever mention any shortcomings regarding the cleaning of the interior of our home until a week after her departure. Had she done so I would have had it re cleaned. Mrs. Hernandez has been my cleaning supervisor for nearly 14 years. During that time I have had nothing but great comments about the cleanliness of our homes. I’m sorry this guest was disappointed.

Great place by the Village

This was a great place to stay and be close to the Village as well as the Casinos. Clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Couches were really comfortable :) The owner called the day we arrived to make sure everything was ok. Very friendly and helpful. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

A confusing study in contrasts

Cliff notes: Our stay here was basically OK. But overall this location feels old despite a modern appliance or two and could benefit from a big refresh.

There was sufficient space for our group but the home is smaller than the pictures imply. Natural light can be good with plenty of windows (mostly upstairs).

The useable garage was great to park in, same for an electronic front door lock so you don't have another key.

The electric stove heats up quick and things seemed to cook just short of instantly (maybe it's the altitude?) And the place is generally quiet, we didn't easily hear outside noises.

There are a few bird games to play, books to read, and a couple of TVs with (confusing) DISH sat service.

OTOH-

The hot tub is in a small storage room of its own in the garage. The room smelled stale, had no ambiance, felt very isolated and not easy to access from inside. We would have easily used it if it had been on the deck, but not in that room.

Ventilation isn't great. No matter what, we always had to open almost all the upstairs windows when cooking cause in a blink you can be overwhelmed with the smell and smoke of_____, esp if broiling anything. The kitchen fan just makes noise.

Some windows do not properly latch to lock closed. Thumbs up to low local crime rates (I hope).

The gas fireplace initially wouldn't light. After contacting the owner, we determined the pilot light was out. Once resolved the fireplace worked. Warning - lighting means turning the knob left to about 10 o'clock position and then backing up cause it lights with a WHOOSH/flame. After use, know that the gas knob and chain curtain will be -hot-.

The master bedroom bathroom has a standup shower only. Huh? Why does the guest/public bathroom get the tub and the master gets to stand up?

The freezer door handle was broken. A new replacement part was found onsite but there was no torx tool handy to remove the broken part. This should be fixed by maintenance by now.

The upstairs tv had a broken HDMI cord. Thankfully our kids' PlayStation uses HDMI. We notified the owner.

Yes there are "warning" signs all over - it's understandable because people can be really stupid these days and then go "whaaat?? What did I do?"

Expect to drive to the clubhouse, no easy walk.

In conclusion, we enjoyed our visit to Tahoe. This home did what we basically needed. But don't expect the latest and greatest or anything lavish (which considering the price, we somewhat did).

The review said it was quiet, had adequate space,he liked the electronic door lock, and the comfort of Tahoma’s attached vehicle garage. Six parties who stayed in the previous 90 day period rated Tahoma as “excellent" The guest at Tahoma two days before the viewer’s arrival described Tahoma as “A Dream Come True-A Lovely Cabin In The Woods.". We consistently make upgrades to Tahoma. A week before this guest's arrival two new sofa beds were placed in the living room and the TV was wall mounted. A couch was removed in the master and replaced with a chair/ottoman combo.During the past year we have upgraded to a new stainless refrigerator and replaced both King beds with new hotel pillow top mattresses. Other recent upgrades include a new stainless steel dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker. Within the past 10 years the exterior of the home was resided with insulating vinyl. The windows were retrofitted with dual insulated units to provide comfort, and noise reduction. My property description provides accurate photos written description of Tahoma's features. The photo & caption of the master bath shows the shower and hot tub photo shows/describe it's garage room.It is unsafe to place a 300 gallon hot tub on a second story frequently snow laden deck! We regret that our guest was unaware of the hot tub/ bath tub location when booked. Our guest reached out to me twice during his stay, to discuss the broken handle HDMI Cable and blown out pilot. I walked him through the re-lighting process, told him of the design flaw and the location of the spare parts. He was okay with opening the door by the side. Re: the fireplace: all fireplace screens can get hot when exposed to heat. He did not mention confusion with the Dish network, I would have had him view instruction sheets in each TV room. The stove vent works properly. Depending on the food odors such as bacon will drift into the surrounding areas in any home. Any broiler used for cooking creates smoke. I use the gas BBQ on the deck for this reason. The electric stove/oven features a glass top surface and is working well The windows all lock, the latch must be in the right position. My staff was able to lock them. We appreciate our guest’s feedback and will continue our effort to upgrade and maintain Tahoma to ensure our home is safe, convenient, and comfortable for our valued guests. Nancy Hawkins, Owner
