My three generation family of five, including two children under 5, spent the month of January in this beautiful home. It provided everything we could have hoped for: spacious and comfortable living areas and bedrooms with big windows, well equipped kitchen, screened porch with a view of the water, and deck with an expansive view of the bluest, clearest Caribbean water you could ever hope to see.
This was our fourth winter in the Bahamas, our first trip to Long Island, and this house and Lochabar beach exceeded every one of our expectations. The white sand beach provided peaceful walks in both directions, accented by a few rocky areas at low tide for interest. Our beach time was mostly private, and we were happy to chat with the few other beach walkers as we passed by. My recurring thought as I kayaked to each of the barrier islands and past the blue hole to the shallow waters to the south was that this was a huge, blue, clear swimming pool. We found literally dozens of perfectly intact sand dollars, as well as conch and other shells by the hundreds. Kayaks are provided and being out on the water was a highlight for us.
This house and location are perfect for those seeking relaxation in a stunning natural setting and have no need for shopping, crowds, and nightlife. The house is near enough to a couple of restaurants at the Marina a short drive away, and to groceries and notable island sites, such as Dean’s Blue Hole and Hamilton’s Caves. We visited multiple other beaches and made a day trip to the north that included Columbus Point and the well known Cape Santa Maria. We were also able to rent a boat from the owner of Under the Sun just up the road and spend a day on the water.
Ron is a very conscientious owner, and the rental process was easy and smooth. He was quickly responsive to every email. I highly recommend this rental property. Five stars.
Very similar to a previous review from John, my husband and I have travelled the various family islands for over 20 years. We agree whole heartily with his review, so no need to repeat! I will add that we have rented everything from roadside apartments to elaborate homes depending on who is accompanying us. Long Island itself has a great selection of beaches, local flavour, DIY bonefishing as well as available experienced guides, and overall a great family, friends or fishermen's dream. We prefer the central area of Deadman's Cay and south as the pace is slower than the north. Ron's home is without a doubt the most well maintained and spacious we have ever rented. Whether you are star gazing on the front sea side veranda, or having quiet time in the screened in room there is plenty of space to spread out. We even had our grandson (11 months old) down and he enjoyed exploring all the open space, and ron's coffee table was an instant hit! The owner is very meticulous and the home is well maintained and we respected the care taken into its upkeep, and used it as if it were our own. We had an exceptional month visit, and feel privileged to have been able to stay at this home. Top notch, and do not hesitate to recommend.
My family and I (2 adults, 2 adult children, 2 teens) just got back from Long Island and stayed in this house. We loved that every bedroom had it's own bath. The screened porch was also a big hit. We enjoyed playing cards and reading on the screened porch. The house was clean and well taken care of. The Beach was a short walk down the private path. Excellent views from all the rooms as well. If you are looking for a place to stay near Clarence Town you should just book this house, you will not be disappointed.
My wife and I love Long Island. We have been there three times over the last 4 years and each time we go, we stay at the Lochabar House. It has a great view, a great beach, calm water, romantic location, and all the amenities to make your trip enjoyable and memorable. The house is well located near Clarence town, nearby food is excellent, and very close to rental car agency.
For the past twenty five years my wife and I have spent six weeks every winter trading the rain of Seattle for the warmth and sun of the tropics. She loves to go for long walks, curl up with a book on the beach and kayak or paddleboard. I love to spend my days in search of bonefish.
We have been to many tropical countries and destinations and stayed in lots of nice rentals homes over that time but luckily we found this wonderful location 7 years ago and have returned every year since. Without a doubt it is the most perfect combination of home, view and beach we have experienced in all our tropical adventures.
I have never written a review on the property before but felt I should to inform any who are concerned about this home because of last year's hurricane. I agree totally with all the other 5 star reviews posted here so wont repeat the lists of all the wonderful things about the house and what to see and do on Long Island. I found those reviews to be very accurate and helpful. The same is true for all the amenities about the home. My wife is an exceptional cook and finds the kitchen appointments, appliances and equipment to be way more than adequate for her needs. We especially appreciate the quality of the beds and en suite bathrooms and showers in each large, airy bedroom. The home is spacious and very comfortable for couples sharing the home or having their family and grandchildren visit like ours do.
The owner promised the home would be ready for our arrival and it was absolutely perfect. Even most of the vegetation and flowers were well on their way to being as beautiful as ever. He has been extremely reliable over the years and always responds quickly to any concerns. Nancy, his local property manager is a gem. She is a tremendous resource for any and all needs and lives just a few miles away.
Cocktail time is a high point of the day here with the absolutely stunning, expansive view of the aqua bay and it's pristine islands as a back drop. I never get tired of staring at that ever changing scenery. Of course, a morning stroll with your coffee on the gorgeous,white sand beach; or an afternoon swim in the calm aqua waters are also hard to beat. Especially since it feels so private.
I recommend this home without reservation regardless of what you want from a tropical vacation --unless it's shopping, night clubs and casinos.
First let me say that this is a landlord that will go out of his way to insure that your stay is as comfortable as possible. This house received considerable damage in late 2015 due to the hurricane, but was in immaculate shape when we arrived in late February. His efforts to get the house ready for our use were truly herculean. True, there was still evidence of the severe blow in the landscaping, but even that had be trimmed and cared for by the time of our arrival.
We had 3 couples in our party, and the house was comfortable for all. The living and dinning rooms seemed uncrowded for our family, and the porch is a dream. The views of the Atlantic are spectacular, and the distance to town is only just over a mile. The island is uncrowded, so don't expect a wide variety of restaurants, but we did visit three and each was unique in its own way. There is a caretaker for the house on the island, and we found her both charming and efficient. She stocked the kitchen for us prior to our arrival, and gave us a tour of the island on our first day.
We did several days of bonefishing, and saw about 100, but they had lockjaw during our stay. There are beautiful flats about two miles south of the residence, but we also found bonefish at almost every stop.
There is still considerable damage from the storm on the island, but it is being cleaned up at a remarkable pace.
We can't thank Ron enough for the efforts he put in to get the house ready for our vacation. We had a great time.
