No question about it, this place is amazing! It is the quintessential setting for a Maine Coast vacation. The yard is plenty big enough for kids to run around and enjoy. The road to the cabin is pretty quiet and peaceful. There's just a short walk to get down to the ocean where our kids enjoyed running around and playing on the big coastal rocks for many hours during our trip. The views are incredible! We also like to bike ride to the Lighthouse, which really is not far away at all.
The cabin itself is small and quaint. Having the Dolhouse with the extra two beds was perfect for our needs. The kitchen comes almost fully stocked with anything you could need. You can even build a wood fire in the fireplace on chillier nights.
We just love Bayside. We visit every year and plan to do so for many years to come. It is the place we take our kids to get away from normal life and back to true reality. Can't wait to get there this year!
Seventeen years ago our family discovered Pemaquid Point. We found “Bayside” the next year. Since then we have loved our vacation stays at “Bayside” -- for between two to four weeks a year. “Bayside” is that extra bit of ‘something special’ that both completes and rivals the majestic beauty of the Pemaquid Point. The cabin is authentic to the core.
We come to Pemaquid Point to soak-in all that Maine offers. The days are exhilarating; rain or sunshine. With the exception of rare cold days, we swim nearly every day off a forgiving rocky section of coastline within 100 yards of “Bayside,” our preference over the Pemaquid Beach. When the boys braved a first swim into the dark waters by these rocks, they unexpectedly encountered waters with 20 to 30 feet of visibility. We were startled by a school of five-foot stripers drifting idly not more than 10 feet away. Having gained confidence, they began catching/releasing hard shell crabs as they snorkel back and forth along this 100 to 250 yard shoreline. In 2007, our sons netted an 11 to 15 pound lobster 10 yards from the shore. (That lobster made a five-pounder look like a crayfish. We released her unharmed—she was a super breeder.)
On colder days or raw, rainy evenings, the cabin’s fieldstone fireplace is just the place to park yourself. How else in today’s day and age would families find time to play cards games including cribbage, chess, strategy board games and/or finish a 500-piece puzzle?
We vacation each year with our best friends’ families, each having found its “Bayside.” Great idea: Each family takes its turn hosting dinner. Our preference is to prepare a picnic/barbeque dinner at the rocks, perfectly lit by spectacular sunsets over the South Bristol peninsula. After that, we gather around a crackling fire near lapping waves while we wait for darkness to reveal the Milky Way, shooting stars and hard-to-spot orbiting satellites. Long rock planks offer a nearly flat-on-your-back place to gaze overhead for an hour or more.
A “shouldn’t pass-up adventure” includes scampering along the rocky seashore cliff escarpments between the Pemaquid lighthouse and Pumpkin Cove, or ambitiously beyond. There are many other wonderful discoveries on the Pemaquid peninsula.
At vacation’s end, a predictable chorus of first words is, “I can’t wait ‘til next year.”
We have stayed at Bayside for many years. It is a little piece of heaven....very peaceful location just a stone's throw from the ocean and the wonderful unique rocks at Pemaquid Point. The cottage is sweet and lovely. It was built during the Great Depression by local builders who lovingly and artfully made this wonderful log house complete with handmade fireplace made from beach stones. We find solace and comfort here every year and look forward to our return. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable with lots of windows to let in the light and the sea breezes. The location is just off the main Pemaquid Loop Road which means that it is very quiet but it still is handy to the "hub" of Pemaquid Point, the lighthouse and environs. Pemaquid Point is a great vacation spot and spending your vacation at Bayside will surely be memorable and fun. We highly recommend this place!
