This was my wife and I first vacation to Florida together, and boy did my wife do her research in picking out the absolute perfect paradise to stay in! Only being married for a couple years,Randy's "Long Haul" cottage was perfect as far as the financial aspect of it.From what I gather, the way he runs things at the cottage allows people like my wife and I to experience a vacation like no other that we wouldn't otherwise be able to afford.Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Randy, but from our email and phone conversations he seems like a great guy who wants everyone to be able to experience this gorgeous island.
Sorry for rambling on....The cottage was perfect for all our needs,it is more than equipped with enough utensils ect to cook and get done with whatever you may need to..The great thing is,is that it is encouraged to leave behind things that obviously you not need to take back home with you ( a bottle of ketchup, mustard ect) so that the next visitors can possibly use these ( and other) items if they choose to.
As far as room in the cottage, there is MORE than enough room for all your needs and the master bed,in our opinion was very comfortable. We didn't have visitors ( or kids, yet) to judge the other bed.The bathroom was just fine and had both a shower/tub combo. Also, even though the a/c were the type that fit in the windows, they were very cold which is a plus when you're down in South Fla.The screened in porch outside on the deck made for a nice place to eat at night and or just relax in the evening to feel the nice Gulf breezes...
Speaking of the Gulf,I just wanted to point out that when the water taxi drops you off at your dock, its literally a 5 min or less walk to the cottage. You're gonna want someone to run up to the cottage to grab the big white barrel so they can wheel it back to the dock, load your grocery's, luggage ect and then use it to get everything to the cottage. This barrel ( or cart?) Has two wheels,so its very easy to roll it even with all your belongings ( you'll see what I mean) The Cottage is in such a great location, being only approx 5 mins to the docks ( water taxi) Tip: if you go down by the dock and hang out for a bit, you're literally guaranteed to see dolphins swimming in the harbor there! We waited 15 mins for the water taxi and saw about 4 or 5 dolphins!
And just to end this- The Gulf Of Mexico! 5 min walk in the opposite direction. Just GO!EVERYDAY! The water is crystal clear, warm and so calm. Its Heaven. I💜LGI
We absolutely love LGI ( Little Gasparilla Island ). This is our 2nd visit to the island and to Long Haul Cottage. Randy is very nice, the cottage has everything we need for our stay (except baking sheets) & is kept very clean. No frills, just basic and clean. We bring our 3 dogs & 2 children and there is plenty of room. This year, we left the kiddos with grandparents so we could have some adult time. We did bring our dogs. This cottage is less than 3 minutes from the dock and about 5 minutes to the beach. Makes unloading very easy. Suggestion -you do have to prepare your own meals...all of them...so we bring enough food for Saturday night, Sunday & Monday and take the water taxi back to the mainland on Tuesday and purchase for the rest of the week at Winn Dixie in Port Charlotte. We also do any other shopping and/or eat a meal out that day. We find it's much easier to manage all your luggage, food, dogs, kids, supplies etc if we don't bring so much food the first trip. Plus we gauge how much we actually eat. Water makes us hungrier. We also have coolers and use cold bags from grocery store to keep milk etc cold during trip from grocery store to cottage. Of course, you do pay water taxi an extra trip. Also, you have to take your garbage with you so we take whatever we have up to Tuesday. Marina charges $2.50 per bag to put in dumpster. We bring a couple 50 gallon ones to put all our smaller ones inside. Also, I promise you will spend the majority of your time in your bathing suit or pj's. You truly only need your suit, pj's and 1 or 2 pairs of shorts & tshirts. That's it. There is a washer and dryer in the shed. Bring your toiletries, charcoal & a flashlight, minimal clothing, food and your relaxation mode. It's very peaceful, beautiful and fun. The ocean is often as calm as a lake and warmer than bathwater. We see beautiful birds, dolphins, manatees, manterays & wildlife on this island. Keep your dogs leashed...lots of places to lose them in the tropical areas if they see something. We do let ours run free near the ocean. Just have your leash handy in case others have dogs. Remember, there is not a store, not a restaurant, not shopping, not anything here except friendly people and thousands of seashells. So, call or email Randy and reserve your version of Gilligans Island vacation today. If you can disconnect from "the city", you'll love it here. We're already trying to figure out when we can come back next year. Same island, same cottage.
This cottage was so adorable and cozy! We absolutely loved it! The outside shower was our favorite! The beach was a short walk away and everyone on the island was super friendly. It was such a relaxing weekend!
Randy was so kind and inviting. Alice and Rob, who take care of the place, were amazingly helpful and kind to our kids. They even brought them a coconut to each and some shark's teeth to take home. The house was very well kept and clean. We were able to BBQ each night and sit out on the now screened in deck to read at night. They also have installed an ethernet cable for internet access. It was a great stay, we are already looking at booking our next vacation!
We had the best time of our lives!!!! The house was absolutely adorable!!! Pictures do not do it justice. The place was spotless and had everything you could want or need!!! Randy was a dream to work with and Linda was an amazing help on so many things from luggage to bug spray that we forgot:( We plan to come back in October for a end of the year vacation!!! Can't wait love the Island and this home!!!
Great place to stay, very close to the beach. Randy was so nice as well as the caretakers Alice and Rod. Cottage very clean, decorated well and stocked with sheets, towels, kitchen untensils, dishes, etc. Looking forward to going again very soon. This island is a remote retreat with no cars, great way to relax and just enjoy beach walking, bird watching, swimming and meeting great people.
Little Gasparilla é uma fuga da ilha. Não há pontes para a ilha, por isso, se você não tiver um barco, um táxi de água pode ser usado.
