The “Cottage at the Cove” has become our favorite get-away place. We’ve stayed in many such rentals, but never one as clean and nice as this one. It is close to the beach and close to the downtown stores; both are in short walking distance.
The Beach House restaurant, with ocean views, opens for dining at 4:00 PM and their early menu is very reasonable priced with some great entrees. It is just a very short walk from “Cottage at the Cove.” There are also a number of fine restaurants and cafes (as wells as many shops and stores) if you walk in the other direction toward the center of town.
This cottage is very well-maintained; always clean, neat, well-decorated and amply supplied with everything. The owner, Barbara, goes out of her way to make sure that her guests are not lacking in anything. Barbara takes great pride in this rental and has a strong commitment to her client’s comfort and happiness. The neighborhood is very quiet and the people are quite friendly.
Barbara provides aquarium tickets which are definitely worth using. Also, the whale watching tours are often spectacular. There is a lot to do in the Monterey Pacific Grove area and even if you don’t want a lot of activity, just looking at the ocean and all the beautiful scenery is very engaging.
The cottage itself is very comfortable to relax in and there are many good books to look at and a good variety of DVD’s available as well as cable TV. The bathroom is a little on the small side, but has a combination shower-tub which is nice. The kitchen has everything a person might need; far more than most rentals like this.
We have decided to make this cottage our regular home away from home when we go to the Monterey Pacific Grove area. In our opinion, the “Cottage at the Cove” is in a class by itself when it comes to vacation rentals.
What a wonderful find!
As context, I travel to Pacific Grove at least once per year to visit family, and I have rented VRBO lodgings from California to Rome. This one is the best. Why?
1.) Your host, Carol. So thoughtful and communicative--she is the best!
2.) The space itself. The property is immaculate and perfectly appointed. Everything you need is there, and the decor might make you smile--e.g., check out the blue bottles over the bathroom mirror, how they descend in size to accommodate the sloping ceiling. :-) Immaculate bears repeating: I felt as if I were the property's first renter.
3.) The location. As you can see on the map, it's close to everything. Because I was visiting family within walking distance, I canceled my rental car--and I never missed it. Even if you decide to rent a car, if you're also a fit walker, there will probably be days you never crank it. Where else would you rather be?
Highest, grateful recommendation!
This CUTE and perfect cottage is perfect! Everything is as described regarding amenities, location, etc. This cottage is located PERFECTLY! The day we spent in PG we left the rental car at home, walked to First Awakenings (ate there 3 times) and headed out for our day: Aquarium, Cannery Row, and the PG Farmer's Market. We easily got to Big Sur, Carmel, Downtown Monterey for the wharf and their Farmer's Market as well. Being from Salinas, this was by far the best place to spend a week in the Bay Area! On our last night we watched the sunset from Asilomar and saw plenty of wild life, to include a momma otter with her pup out in some kelp. HIGHLY recommend and will return here for future visits!
This property by far is the best I have stayed in in the Monterey area. One block from the beach and Lover's Point. Two blocks from small town shops and amazing dining options. Beautiful walk to Cannery Row along a path that parallels the ocean.
The cottage itself is superb. "Peace and quiet"--waking only the the sound of gulls calling to each other. A bed that you never want to leave---comfortable, sound slumber. A fully stocked kitchen to create gourmet cuisine. Wonderful aroma of lavender on the back patio.
I could go on forever about how awesome this property is but two things that stand out the most are: 1) this is the cleanest, most presentable property I have ever stayed in. I have stayed in Home Away properties around the world and have never experienced such attention to cleaning details. 2) the owner Barbara goes out of her way to ensure you have everything you need and will check in on you to make sure everthing is to your satisfaction. PS: Barbara also leaves coffee, creamer, and a Wonderful bottle of vino to get your amazing vacation started!!!!!
My husband and I stayed a week in March and loved this little historic cottage; close to the beach but on a quiet street. It's meticulously maintained and equipped with everything you could want in a vacation home. The cottage was thoughtfully decorated and the furnishings very comfortable. I read the book about Pacific Grove history that the owner provided and found it fascinating. There was a nice cafe a few blocks up the street, and we had dinner at two very good restaurants the owner recommended, also an easy walk away. We rented bikes at nearby Lover's Point and biked well past Monterey; another day we walked along the coast in the other direction, seeing otters in the wild! The aquarium passes were also so thoughtful; the aquarium is a must-see. There's so much to do and see, but just relaxing is also an option! It was a wonderful place to stay, and we would return.
Excellent home! Well maintained, easy access to all surrounding communities, easy rental arrangements, quiet street, a block from Lover's Point and the ocean. The owner is very responsive and accommodating. Many local restaurants & shops. There is a book of travel information and menus from San Fransisco to Big Sur is available. I would recommend this home to anyone.
