We had an excellent time!
The house and grounds were perfect for our stay. We saw plenty of wildlife including bear, deer and eagles. Highly recommend
We stayed in the Maple Leaf Lodge for 9 days. The cabin was beautiful and right on the lake. Fishing was not great on Eagles Nest #3 but we pulled our boat out and went over to Eagles Nest # 1 & 2. Fishing there was much better!! There was plenty of wildlife. Many deer and a woodchuck behind the cabin. We also encountered a momma bear with her 3 cubs right behind our cabin which completely made the trip for us! We will definitely be coming back!
I thought the property was very nice. The sleeping arrangements and the outdoor property was very pretty! Fall colors were stunning at the Maple Leaf Lodge. Besides that -The fuse blew out a few times for the bedroom and kitchen and the hottub drain did not work that well. Also, the door to the shower kept coming off hinge. Others then those little things happening it was great!
Lovely location with beautiful lake views
The Lodge was perfect for our group visiting the area for the Ely Half Marathon. We enjoyed the canoe and my husband caught a northern pike from the dock with his fly rod. The house information book had lots of helpful information about the area. Important to note the unusual details on this rental; bath towel are not provided, the heater pool is only open Memorial Day - Labor Day and checkout is an early 9:00 a.m.
We really enjoyed our week here. The home is lovely and had plenty of space for 6 adults and 2 kids. Pluses included the huge, comfy sofa, the paddleboat, the pool, the board games, and the lake, of course! We enjoyed seeing lots of loons and deer, a few eagles, and even a bear early one morning. Paddled all around by the state park; it was nice to have an area with no development near by. The only con was the fishing....caught one pike the whole week. We appreciated the owner's responsiveness to our questions before the trip as well as while there. Definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again!
Stunningly Beautiful Home On A Gorgeous Lake
My wife and I came up for a week in July with our two daughters and their husbands. My youngest daughter's husband is from Texas, and has never been farther north than Iowa. First time in Minnesota Northwoods for both of them. Thought this was the perfect area to introduce them to it. The pool kept us entertained when we weren't out fishing in the morning and early evening. Cooked there every morning and evening except for Monday night...a crab leg buffet at the casino on Vermillion. (Really Good!). Fish fry in Ely on Friday night(so-so). Fires in the very nice fire pit nearly every night, and games at the spacious dining room table(great selection of games there.Love Balderdash!). Saw evidence of a bear on what looked like the septic on southwest corner of property(scat, and a couple paw prints), but never saw the bear. Plenty of deer, eagles, Loons!!(with babies!!). Fishing not the best on Eagle's Nest #3. Caught 2 smallmouth(nice size 3-4 lbs),1 walleye(1-1/4 lb),1 northern(6-7 lbs). Lost some big fish.Nothing bad to say, but I do advise anyone putting their boat in at the only public access to be aware that there is a very large and, to this date, unmarked rock pile straight out from the dock. A local resident of the lake had to pull me off of it with his pontoon! You cannot see it unless lake levels are low. Talked to two or three very nice people who live on the lake...they all want something done about it! It is dangerous, so do your research on where the treacherous shallow rock piles are before coming!!! There are several of them!!! Having that happen was a bad introduction to the lake, but from there on, it was nothing but great times for everyone, and was fun to see our son-in-laws develope what will probably be a life-long affection for this beautiful area!
