We enjoyed our stay at the Cordwood Cabin. As a family of 4 we had plenty of space. The kids loved having the loft space to themselves and we enjoyed our first floor bedroom. Everything you need to enjoy a quiet week is provided. We used the coffee pot, stovetop, cookware, Weber Grill and utensils and saved some money enjoying breakfast and lunch in many of our days. The Keweenaw waterway was cool and clean and we rented a small boat to try our luck at fishing.
We used the cabin as our home base and explored the rest of the Keweenaw all of the way up to Copper Harbor. Bruce and Jaclyn were lovely hosts----available if needed but not hovering. We were thankful for Bruce's firelighting skills and we enjoyed swimming and sitting round the fire pit.
The nearby Hungarian Falls and the Quincy Mine were two of our favorite visits. We also loved the jam pot near Eagle Harbor and exploring the area. This cabin will have a magnificent view of the fall colors. Hope we can come back again. Thanks for sharing your special cabin with us.
We highly recommend the Cordwood Cabin and feel fortunate to have stayed there. Our experience was delightful – even better than we expected from the website. The cabin is well-built and well-sighted on a beautiful location on the Portage Lake waterway. We had a wonderful week in the Keweenaw region and a big part of it was staying in this well-equipped, immaculately clean cabin. Every day we were torn between biking, hiking and sightseeing and simply staying at the cabin enjoying its beauty and quiet. Downtown Houghton is only 5 miles away. Everything was thoughtfully provided. We stayed a week and never once had to request anything. Bruce and Jaclyn were wonderful and gracious hosts. For example, most evenings Bruce would light a fire in the fire pit and even a starter amount of charcoal was provided for the Weber grill. We hope to have an opportunity to stay there again. Thank you Bruce and Jaclyn.
This was our second stay at the Cordwood Cabin. We tend to go go go on vacations, and last summer was no exception. When we were deciding where to go this summer, we realized we missed the calm and beauty of this stellar location ... and so we went back to slow down and fully enjoy it.
Book this cabin by all means, and be sure to savor the experience.
My family stayed here for a week in the beginning of July. When we arrived the cabin was very clean. You could tell that Bruce the owner takes a lot of pride in this cabin. Everything it showed in the listing was accurate. Dealing with Bruce was easy. He seemed very professional and sincere. The property that the cabin is on is awesome. The view of the waterway from the deck was so nice. It is an ideal location, close to town yet still felt secluded. We enjoyed sightseeing around the Keeweenaw peninsula a few days and we spent some days just hanging out at the cabin. My daughters enjoyed the swimming beach. They also enjoyed playing in the loft. My wife and I enjoyed the peacefulness of the outdoors here. We also enjoyed canoeing on the waterway. We also loved the campfire area. In the future I can only hope I can find other properties as perfect as the cordwood cabin here in Houghton. Thanks again Bruce and family for providing an excellent setting for making family vacation memories!
The cordwood Cabin far exceeded our expectations! Our visit was primarily to celebrate our son's graduation from MTU, but was so much more because of this beautiful, well-maintained, and well-equipped cabin. Our hosts could not have been more gracious making sure that, even at this early point in the Spring season, that the outdoor furnishings were available for our use. The cabin itself is a labor of love between father and daughter, a story worth reading while you are visiting. In addition, the view of the Portage provided us with the privilege of watching the "pet" loons that seemed to enjoy the peace and watching the transformation of ice to Spring ready. The location was ideal for getting to MTU, shopping, restaurants, and the greater Keweenaw. We will be back!
This is a wonderful cabin with a great location. Close to Houghton with a country setting. The kitchen was better equipped with matching equipment and dishware than we have at home! We even had a lovely wildflower bouquet on the table when we arrived. All the bed and bath linens you could ask for. The loft would make me nervous with children younger than about 4 yrs old but it can be gated off. The rope net and cable hand rail and loft wall would be too tempting for any smaller child to resist climbing. Since our kids are all in college, it was wonderful and airy.
