Great experience

We liked our stay here. We visited storyland which is not far from this place. We enjoyed 2 days stay. The bathrooms were not that clean, and don't forget to bring your own towel and bedsheets.

Okay for a night with a big group

We stayed here for a big group only for one night. There was enough room for everyone, if you have a group that's okay roughing it - like sleeping on an old mattress on the floor. Was very disappointed that we had 10 people flying in from all across the country, and on the morning before checking in I was informed sheets and towels were an extra $200 - for just one night. Kind of thought it's implied that we would need sheets to sleep in a towels to shower with. Also there weren't the little things like trash cans on the top floor. This place was fine for a night, but wouldn't stay there for too much longer.

Planning on returning

This is our 2nd year staying at this house! It is the only house in the area that can accommodate such a large party, allows dogs, has a hot tub, private bathrooms and large kitchen/eating area. We have no complaints. Everything was great! Contrary to what other people have said, having the Landlord next store was not a problem. We didn't even know she was there. She allowed us our privacy and I didn't even see her until the end of our stay. HOWEVER, it wouldn't have mattered because she is a really nice person and gave us tips on a wonderful hiking place on our way home. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Many complaints about the property and the owner

Rented the house for a week for an annual new years trip with friends, 15 of us. Worst rental ever

-Problem with heat-- heating system was new, but kept malfunctioning. We had to go to the basement to reset it several times during our stay. But by the time we'd realize it was off the place was freezing and took several hours to heat up again

-On a busy street, noisy inside the rooms

-No welcome sheet explaining internet password or general house info

-bathrooms could use updating. Carpets throughout were dingy, need replacing

-no trash containers in bathrooms, which was odd since there is a clause in the agreement that only toilet paper should be flushed due to the septic system. No signs to that effect in the bathrooms, either

-no hall bathrooms, except on 3rd floor. On the 1st and 2nd floor you go through a bedroom to get to a bathroom

-several times we had to run the dishwasher twice because the mechanism to release the detergent malfunctioned, never released the soap. So inconvenient given the number of dishes created by a large group. Also, the dishwasher door nearly falls off the hinges and needed propping

-kitchen had everything we needed, but was sparse- no wooden spoons, only one cutting board, etc. kitchen is not well-stocked

-there is a washer and dryer, but you can't use it. It's behind a padlock in the kitchen

Worst part was that four days after we left, during which there were some record breaking cold temps, the owner e-mailed to say she was keeping the security deposit. She claimed windows were left open and caused pipes to freeze.

First of all, my husband and I walked through the entire house three times before we left, and there were no windows open. It's possible that people left storm windows open, that I don't know. There were issues with heat, as mentioned above, once the heat came back on, it got pretty hot.

The owner lives next door, literally attached to the rental. You can hear her dogs bark in the kitchen. After we left, she walked through the rental property and did not notice windows open either. Four days later, she blames pipes freezing on us. We left the heat at 50, per the agreement. If the heat was on and working properly (which I doubt) why would pipes freeze? Also, in temps that cold, a prop owner (esp. one living next door) should take steps-- turn up heat, keep faucets at a drip. Don't try to pin your own negligence in the care of the property on the last renter

Resposta do proprietário: I feel this renter is responding with anger due to my request to keep the damage deposit to help offset the cost of the heating freezing after they left. They did leave the windows open and my plumber did believe it contributed to the pipes freezing (not to mention the wasted heat during their stay and beyond). As stated, she did not notice the windows open when she left. I did not in my initial walk through either. The second night I was turning up the heat due to the projected temperatures and that is when I noticed several windows open in 5 of the bedrooms and the dining room. Apparently they did not have that much trouble with the heat. None of these complaints were given to me during the stay but only after I requested the damage deposit. I do live next door and they could have come by or called at any time to clear up any concerns. Others who stayed recently were impressed with the well stocked kitchen. They stayed for Thanksgiving and felt they had everything they needed (blender, mixer, pots/pans, serving utensils, two coffee makers, etc). This is the first time I heard that there are any issues with the dishwasher but will look into it. Regarding the dogs barking, I am taking steps to put a sound barrier between my apartment and the rental to reduce the sound further.As stated, I just replaced the furnace so I'm doing everything I can for a comfortable stay. The issue with the reset is corrected now. They only had to walk downstairs twice during their stay to reset it, it wasn't that big of a deal and was corrected as soon as they reported it. Information was given ahead of time regarding internet and rules of stay (mostly that the trash needs to be recycled) but it is a good idea to have a welcoming note with information about the rental, so I will try and provide that going forward.
