Our family had a wonderful time - your home away from home was perfect. Housekeeping had the house spotless! This is a great location. We brought kayaks to paddle in the tidal cove, enjoyed the decks, screen porch and lobster delivered to our door by the neighbor. Check out the local food co-op for groceries. We saw fox, deer, eagles and a heron right there. Many hiking trails nearby, especially to Barren island at low tide. Our family with 2 teenage boys had a great vacation. The owners were great to work with. Definitely would recommend this rental.
We stayed here last summer, and I am looking for our next vacation house for this summer, I was reminded to write the review (sorry, Barry!). We had a great experience with this rental and highly recommend the house and the location to really get away from everything. We'd been to Maine before, but never to Deer Isle, and it was everything we hoped for. We could see people and restaurants when we wanted, but also hide away in this beautiful house when we didn't. :)
Barry was great to work with and answered (way too many) questions from me ahead of time. The house was very comfortable, with amenities for the kids and the adults. The kitchen was also nicely stocked, which is important to us in rentals because we cook a lot. The views were amazing, with incredible tides.
If you go, don't miss Nervous Nellie's Jams & Jellies (one of our favorite stops on the trip), and we hope you have better luck crabbing off the back "deck" than we did. Something ate our hotdog, but we never figured out what it was!
Our family spent two weeks in this delightful location June 2011. The property is architecturally very well done, and the construction, finishes and furnishing are all top notch. This is a high quality place! We enjoyed being in the middle of Deer Isle, away from the traffic near the town centers but no more than 15 mins from anything we wanted to do.
Our young kids really enjoyed the cottage and had a great time roaming the property. The private dock is a great way to end a day as a family, roasting marshmallows or just enjoying the sunset.
This is my fifth trip to the Deer Isle area and I highly recommend this property. The Eaton family has created something very special here.
We spent 3 delightful weeks at Tides End from July 24-Aug 14, 2010.The cottage is centrally located on Deer Isle off of Rt 15 about half way between Stonington & Deer Isle Village. The house is located on a seclude wooded lot overlooking a tidal cove. The home is very comfortably furnished & is equipped with a flat screen satelite TV & high speed internet. The kitchen is spacious with modern appliances and all the amenities one could want with the exception of an automatic ice maker. There is seating for 6 in the inside dining area as well as on the screened porch. A deck, running the length of the house, overlooks the water and is perfect for happy hour celebrations or relaxing with a book. A 2nd waterfront deck along the water provides beautiful views of the inlet. There is a gas grill on the deck & a propane lobster/clam steamer on the patio below the deck. Picking out your own lobsters on the dock at the Co-op in Stonington and steaming them at the cottage is an awesome dining experience!
There are 5 good resaurants within a 15 minute drive. While there are 2 small grocery stores nearby, the closest super market is in Blue Hill, about 30 minutes away. Deer Isle is about 1-1/2 hour drive from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and the main part of Acadia National Park. It is a picturesque area with lots of arts and crafts studios & home to the acclaimed Haystack Mt. School of Arts & Crafts. Fun things to do on Deer Isle and the nearby Blue Hill peninsula include Monday night steel band concerts, Old Opera House productions at the old quarry, hiking on Isle au Haut, sail boat charters, scenic boat tours, Friday morning farmers' market, eating lobster rolls at Bagaduce Lunch in N. Brookfield (2008 James Beard winner), and, of course, beach combing Deer Isle's many coves and causeways.
It was the perfect get-away for us along with friends from California & Delaware. A stay at Tides End is enjoying Maine as it was meant to be!
Our group stayed here for a week early June of 2010. Very nice cottage, everything was brand new and plenty of modern amenities. The view from the dock was quite beautiful. Best cottage we've visited and we'll definately come again. Highly recommended.
My husband, two children and I had the most wonderful time at this lovely island retreat. We highly recommend it to all visiting the Deer Isle/Stonington area.
This home is immaculate - new construction, very private property, great kitchen and dining area with high-end stainless steel appliances, large bedrooms with water views, large deck and screened-in porch overlooking the water and full-sized laundry.
We enjoyed the friendly town, beaches, hiking areas and access to the water right on the property. It was great being able to watch our children play in the water right from the deck.
Additionally, we cooked fresh lobster, crab, clams and fish (the local catch is amazing!) almost every day and ate either right at the water or on the screened-in porch.
This was one of our most relaxing, family fun vacations. We have already booked for 2010!
