Not as expected

I rarely leave reviews but my experience at this house compels me to do so in this case. My communication with the owner leading up to my stay was great. She answered all of my questions and provided information in a timely manner. My husband arrived at the home about an hour after our allowed check in time. Upon his arrival the house was a mess, there were beer bottles covering the dining table, the beds hadn't been changed, the house hadn't been cleaned. The yard was strewn with garbage and fishing derbies. Worst of all, the washing machine was draining directly into the backyard. It created a muddy mess and that doesn't even begin to touch on the environmental damage it can do to the Gulf if Mexico. My husband actually cleaned the yard because I was arriving soon with our dogs. The cleaning people were in the process of starting to clean the house, the home was not ready until 2 hours after our initial check in time. The washer and dryer were left full of linens, which we also took care of. A cleaning lady came the next day to switch the laundry but we told her it had been taken care of. The sound on the TV intermittently went out, I contacted the owner who contacted Verizon to correct the issue. We rebooted the system so I'm not sure if that fixed it or if Verizon fixed it. On the second day the code we'd been given for the front door stopped working, it made it so that the only way into the home was thru the back gate and the muddy mess from the washing machine. We had to leave the back door unlocked so we could get back in. I contacted the owner and she was able to reset the code that day. There is a leak in the wall between the hall bath and bedroom, it's so bad that the paint is coming off the wall and the floor gets wet every time someone showers. We had stacked some pillows on the bedroom floor before we realized how bad the leak was and they got soaked. I decided to wash the sheets in the master bedroom mid way thru the week, when I took them off the bed I was floored with the state of the mattress pad. It looked as if it had never been washed, there was what appeared to be a urine stain on it and I made the mistake of smelling it. I pulled the mattress pad off and washed it as well. I gave this house 2 stars only because the living room is set up nicely with comfy couches and a nice TV, the dining area is nice as well. The outside area was the best part of the home, minus the washer draining into the yard.

Great Vacation Destination

This vacation was definitely a blessing for our family. The house was clean and provided for all our needs. The pool was very enjoyable and the distance to the beach was not a bad walk. A ten to fifteen minute drive can get you to many restaurants and grocery stores. My wife and three daughters and three grandkids will try to get back to this location soon.

Christmas getaway!

Our family of four (two teenagers) enjoyed a wonderful stay in this lovely, updated, canal front home. Access to Sarasota Bay from the backyard dock where we observed the bird activity on a nearby island. A fisherman's paradise. Nearby access to the beautiful, serene Longboat Key beaches, wonderful eateries and shopping. The home is freshly painted and quite comfortable with a beautiful, backyard pool. A great place to enjoy the Florida sun and also end the day. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are nearby. Having bikes available was a plus! We hosted two additional family members for our Christmas dinner. Plenty of room around the dining table. For this family who enjoys peaceful surroundings and quaint, "old Florida," this rental was perfect and also close enough to all the attractions that Sarasota has to offer. The owner was quite helpful and responsive to our questions. The home's listing and photos are quite accurate.

Fantastic Property

My family and I had the pleasure of renting this beautiful home for the month of March 2013. It is incredibly well suited to people of all ages, and our family included three generations ranging in age from 6 months to mid 50's. The bedrooms are very spacious and we were particularly impressed with the amount of storage space available in each room. The home is well equipped with everything you could possibly ask for in a vacation home, and its location on one of Longboat Key's many canals made for a gorgeous view from the kitchen area and living room. Although it is located at the north end of the Key, there are many dining options available nearby, and a trip to the world famous St. Armand's Circle was a short 10 to 15 minute drive (depending upon the traffic along Gulf of Mexico Drive). The neighbours in the area were extremely welcoming and our dogs all became fast friends during our stay.

It was a real pleasure dealing with the owners of this property, and although we had only two very minor issues while we were there, they were dealt with immediately and with our schedule in mind.

We are thrilled to be going back again next year and can't wait!

Great way to spend Thanksgiving

My family rented the home in November for both Thanksgiving and my Dad's 60th birthday, and it turned out to be perfect! The location is great, just a 5 minute walk to the beach and a short distance to all the shops and restaurants. The house itself is amazing for entertaining, with an opne floorplan and kitchen that looks out to the pool area. We brought our flats boat so the guys could take off and fish whenever they liked, it was really easy for them to come and go as they pleased. Another plus is that the owner of the home is very sweet and easy to work with, we hope to stay here again for sure!!!

Quiet, family friendly home with a nice pool for the kids

Our family vacation included 4 adults and 3 kids ages 1,5,and 8. The home met our needs in both sleeping accommodation and comfortable semiprivate patio, back yard and pool. The great weather allowed us to open the large rear sliding doors and kitchen window and make it all one very nice living space. We really enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and relaxing around the pool.

The owners of this home are progressing with an update plan, which started with the pool. We found everything in working order and the home was clean and inviting. The rooms were large and the beds were comfy. It is very different than a condo rental, since there are so many things available, much like you would have in your own home. (Bikes, beach coolers, pool toys, beach toys, many towels, and a well furnished kitchen.) All the amenities worked fine (kitchen appliances, cable tvs, A/C, bathroom fixtures, washer and dryer, 2 refrigerators).

I was very pleased with the owner's responsiveness and help. As an example, while we were there the dishwasher quit working, and a new one was installed the day after we notified the owner. I had no difficulty in making contact or discussing anything throughout our stay.

Be advised that it is a full 10 minute walk to the beach, which wasn't bad for a stroll with the kids. Seriously laden beachgoers can drive most of this and park at the end of the street, avoiding a long haul of chairs, coolers, etc.

FYI - The very convenient Publix Supermarket located about 5 miles south is scheduled to be closed soon (after spring 2012 season) to rebuild a larger store. That will make grocery shopping (which we did a lot of) more challenging until the store reopens.
