This is a very well equipped casita, especially if you enjoy cooking and eating outdoors. It´s a bit inconvenient having the refrigerator inside and the cooking and BBQ outside, but the view and the sound of the ocean and beach made up for any small things. The major stores are close by and, unlike Malaque, the prices for food and wine are not out of reach. Three air conditioners and the sound of the sea at night had us sleeping 10 hours a night. Very goos value. David and Ann
It's not PV or Cancun or Acapulco - Thank goodness! What it is, is a private little piece of paradise.
The casita is simple and comfortable. The beds extremely comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. The outdoor space is perfect for relaxing and meditating and just about anything else you might want to do.
The only draw back is the beach is quite steep and not conducive for sitting and relaxing or kids playing. The surf is very strong there, with some strong undertow. But just down a ways is a little cove that did the trick for us. Santiago is a typical Mexican town, not much there, not too clean, but the Pizza place 2 blocks a way is awesome. You do have to go to Manzanillo for supplies and if you want any restaurants other than a typical taco stand. However, for us casita had just what we needed as a great get away of peace and quiet! Nothing comes close to the pounding sound of the surf and the incredible sunsets!
The home is wonderful although a little impractical; bathroom is outside, half of the kitchen is indoors and the other half outdoors. A lot of running back and forth. When it rained it wasn't fun having to get all wet running to and from the sink or bathroom.
The abandoned building next door is a gathering spot for locals who may or may not have a place to shower. There is SO MUCH trash in and around the building. It smells of urine and alcohol and there's broken glass everywhere. Intoxicated men like to nap there and youngsters like to turn their music up and hang out there...You get the idea. When you're outside cooking or on the hammock these same locals walk by and can see everything into the casita; the sand is high and that wall is short. Kind of creepy but just ignore them and don't be naked.
There was no TV which would of been nice while nursing a belly ache. And to see/know what was going on locally.
The Pacific Ocean is beautiful and the sound of the waves was SO loud! I personally loved it. The local lifeguards were so sweet.
Even though the place next door was really hood I can't wait to stay again.
The property was exactly what we expected from the description, pictures and reviews. Everything was well supplied and well maintained. You cannot beat the beautiful location and privacy it offers. There was nothing like coming home to our little casita with the cool ocean breeze and green grass yard. Jonathan was waiting for us even though our flight was delayed and checked in throughout the week. He even put us in touch with an English speaking taxi driver, Luis, who showed us everything from Monzanillo to Colima. We were careful with locking up when leaving and at night and never felt unsafe. It was a relaxing, rejuvenating vacation - just what we were looking for.
We contacted the owner about the rental, because I wanted to surprise my wife with a 25th anniversary vacation. The owner was amazing in helping me put together all the details for our trip including setting up an appointment to have some dental work done, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, and all the ins and outs of Mexico living.
Our first impression of the rental is that it was safe, on the beach, and in the center of all of the local interaction things that we wanted to do. We loved spending time in the yard lounging and reading books while the waves came in, walking on the beach right in front of us, and preparing fresh Yellow tailed Tuna on the grill while the Sun was setting.
The Casita was comfortable with two bedrooms, one with a double bed and two twin beds in the other. We had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay with air conditioning, games to play, books to read, they personally put together a book of things to do, and a relaxing hammock for the mid day nap.
Location for us was a highlight, with the Saturday market 2 blocks away. The City mercantile was 5 blocks away with our favorite fresh fish market just across the street from the Mercantile with a blue front. Buses will take you anywhere you want to go for 7 pesos, and taxis are inexpensive as well.
Overall Jay the owner is helpful, his caretakers on the ground can answer any questions that come up and are great servants to guests, comfortable Casita, amazing view, and time with my wife priceless.
Everything is just as pictured in the ads. Amazing beach and great for boogie boarding. The Casita is well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Close to town square of Santiago and proximity to buses and taxis to take you to large grocery store The Commercial. Great restaurants within walking distance. For a 3 weeks stay is was perfect! I don't know if I will be able to adjust to sleeping without the sound of the waves. Thanks so much to Jonathan and family for keeping such good care of us, and for providing transportation to the airport, and thanks Jay and family for sharing this little piece of paradise. We will return.
