After nearly a decade of hearing wonderful things about San Miguel we finally took the plunge and reserved Carol's home for a two week stay. We arrived after a long day of travel late in the evening and the night manager was there awaiting us with keys in hand. The pictures really don't do the place justice. It was everything we had hoped for and more: impeccably decorated, clean, quiet, comfortable, and fully accommodating for a couple celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. We were well taken care of by the staff (Maribel and Ana) and set off each morning down to the Centro to explore, dine, relax, and take many, many photographs. Being situated on a hill above the city center allowed for amazing photos of the sunset as well as daily cardio when we returned. Coming home every evening was so much better than staying in a hotel room! We bought food at the local market and truly felt like we'd found a home away from home. Although there was a neighborhood fiesta during our stay, we were warned well ahead of time by Carol and the on-site manager, Maribel. The good people in San Miguel love a reason to celebrate and they celebrated a full weekend while we were there. There was music and fireworks and children playing from sun up to sun down, but I wouldn't have changed that experience one bit. If you are going to experience what it really feels like to be part of a community while you are vacationing, I can see no better way than to enjoy the festivities with the locals. Otherwise, the house and the complex was whisper quiet during our stay, the songs of hummingbirds notwithstanding. And even upon departure -- when our private livery arrived at 4:30 a.m. to take us to the airport in Leon -- the night manager took our keys and wished us safe travels. Truly a delight from start to finish and an experience we will cherish for a lifetime!
We had the good fortune to spend almost two weeks at Carol's townhouse in San Miguel. It is spacious and tastefully decorated, with a very comfortable king-size bed in the main bedroom. The condo is in a complex with well-maintained grounds and a very accommodating staff. Although it is up on a hill, we quickly learned we could easily walk down to the Centro Historico each day and then take one of the plentiful and inexpensive taxis back up when we were ready to go home. We enjoyed sitting on our downstairs balcony and having a meal or reading on the upstairs balcony from time to time. We highly recommend this place for those planning a vacation in San Miguel.
My wife and I reserved a month at Carol's lovely condo and have enjoyed and SMA sufficiently that we are booking for 2 months next year and probably the same into the future.
First of all it is the building itself and the grounds that attract one--wonderful and large interior garden surround a huge pool and hot-tub. It is just an 8 minute walk from here to the main Mercado and another 5 or 6 to the Jardin or Library--in other words to the heart of Centro Historico and beyond. The walk is a great way to get a good start on one's 10,000 steps a day, but taxi's room the area for those who for whatever reason find the walk daunting.
The home itself is commodious, 2 bedrooms, 3 and 1/2 baths with a den/office/tv room that could easily serve as a third bedroom with its two comfortable daybeds and en suite bathroom. The home is nicely decorated, the furniture is of high quality and the kitchen is well equipped for cooking. The bedrooms and baths are very comfortable with plenty of storage and closet space. The building staff is top drawer and the maid, Anna Marie, who comes 3 times weekly is diligent, friendly and very accommodating. I wish that I could take her home with us for our building :) All in all this is a superb place to stay be it for a week or a month.
Our recent stay was fantastic - this was the first time back in five years and it was great- the town home is awesome, great location and is beautiful - the neighbors are great and the hot tub was awesome and fun time getting to know everyone. One of the neighbors invited my wife to a knitting group at Starbucks that met to knit hats for the babies in the countryside. She really enjoyed meeting with everyone and getting to know them. the walk up the hill is a little tough but the exercise was good. Plus, you take a taxi for about $3-4 dollars is you don't want to walk. We did everything from shopping to a day excursion to Deloris Hildago to buy pottery and I even took a cooking class for healthy Mexican food. Restaurants are outstanding as usual and roof tops Margaritas in the afternoon is a daily adventure. would highly recommend this locations and Carol is super nice to transact with when booking.
My husband and I were so thrilled by the house to start, it's adorable charming, and so started the mood of the town and the vacation! We didn't spend too much time at the house but it was great to relax and stay home a couple nights and read while enjoying the view and taking a hot tub. The walk to the center of town and everywhere we wanted to visit was easy and we could come and go lickedy split. Loved every moment!
I had been to San Miguel twice before over 10 years ago arriving by car doing the colonial tour. I had been awe struck ever since. I begged my two sons to go with me to see for themselves why I was so in love with a city. Finally; 10 years later I struck a deal with one of them. I treated. We decided on this town home due to my son's criteria that it had to have a pool. This place was very colorful satisfying my requirements.I especially liked the fact you could in minutes arrive at the market place and center of artesanias. The hike back up the last blocks really did magic in 8 days for my hard to loose 5 pounds .It was a very satisfying walk. The maid service was kind of overkill. We weren't in the house that often but she still came to clean various times. It is a perfect place for a traveling group. We had so much space for just the two of us.The botanical garden is very close by and the most incredible place to visit. we wished we had discovered it earlier on. We rented a car which was not at all necessary. As a matter of fact.; we rented it on line ; arrived thinking we had a great deal only to find out Mexico does not accept rental insurance issued by travel web sites. It ended up hiking the price about 4 times. But since we thought we were in Leon near a bus stop; we found out you actually arrive in Silao and far from buses so we had to take the car. One tip; change pesos during day because the change houses close for the evening and it is hard to buy from carts at night without pesos. I highly recommend this house for anyone's vacation. I would return here again as would my son who only went in the pool 2 times!
