Beautiful apartment in a great location! Helena met us and was very helpful throughout our brief stay. Would recommend here to anyone.
We just spent a week in this apartment. It had everything you needed including a fully stocked kitchen. We never cooked but everything you would need was there.
Location was perfect. Close to the Metro with the 28 trolley going by the front of the building. We never had to take a taxi as we made full use of the Metro, trams, trolleys & trains.
A bakery café was across the street with a full supermarket just a few blocks away. There were plenty of people out walking in the evenings. We never felt unsafe at all.
The apartment takes up the 2nd floor of the 4 storey building. There is no elevator but one wasn't needed. Walking up and down 2 floors was good for us.
The owner and manager were excellent to deal with. Would stay here again if we get back to Lisbon.
We found this apartment to be just as described and in an very good location for visiting the many attractions and neighborhoods of Lisbon. Excellent communication between property managers from initial contact to welcoming us on our arrival and providing good local information regarding restaurants, sites, stores, etc... This historically renovated apartment was comfortable, very clean and well equipped with plenty of space for the two of us. A most enjoyable stay, thank you.
We spent 45 days at an authentic Lisbon apartment in the Barrio Alto area. The location was convenient to walk everywhere in Old Town and immersed us in the Portuguese lifestyle. A butcher and a bakery were a few doors down and a nearby mini-market made grocery runs easy. The iconic 28 trolley went right by our front door. Many Catholic churches were nearby for those looking for Mass.
The apartment was very clean, spacious and bright. The decor with its antique blue tiles and woodwork added to the classic style. The kitchen was well equipped with cooktop, oven, microwave, toaster and a good sized refrigerator/freezer. WiFi was very good and the CD music player had many Portuguese Fado music CDs to enjoy. The bedroom had a comfortable bed and ample clothing storage. The couch and chairs were very comfortable and the pull out sofa bed (if needed) was surprisingly comfortable and easy to set up. There were English TV channels on the Satellite TV. The building felt safe and secure.
Although there wasn't any air conditioning, there was a constant breeze thru the many windows. There were also two floor fans to circulate air if needed. Most days and nights were comfortable during our mid August-September stay. However, leaving windows open for air flow meant outside city noises were more noticeable. You are in a city center and the Portuguese people are full of life.
Weekly housekeeping was included but felt like a luxury. Helena, the apartment manager was very professional, helpful and easily accessible. She even helped us arrange a 5am taxi to the airport at the end of our stay. It was a great value for the price!!!
Lisbon has good transportation options with a nearby airport and train stations. During our long stay, we used it as a base for overnight side trips to Porto, Fatima, the Azores and Spain. We didn't need a rental car and used the convenient Metro and bus stations to get around.
I have stayed in the azulejos apartment two times now. Once a few years ago by myself, and then again in May 2016 with my husband. (Also I referred it to some friends and it was a hit with them as well.) This place is GREAT!
First off, the owner Ana is friendly, helpful and responsive, and Helena provides a warm check-in. Then there is the apartment itself, so lovely and charming and spacious. Everything was in good order both times I was there and just as advertised...and I get great sleep there!
And we love the neighborhood, we were able to walk all over the city from the apartment but loved coming home to this area at night, lots of little restaurants, a grocery store and little corner shops so you never have to venture very far if you don't want to. (Especially convenient if you're by yourself, as I was on my first visit.)
On this last trip we loved hanging out and watching the world go by, and getting to know the routines of the neighborhood. Coffee in the morning and beer in the afternoon, we would stand on the balcony and watch the days unfold.
To steal from an earlier review: "Why stay in a cookie-cutter hotel when you can surround yourself with beautiful tiles, warm woods, and the clatter of a tram outside your window?" Exactly!
We look forward to returning again some day to Lisbon and I can't imagine staying anywhere else, after experiencing the charm of this sweet apartment. Obrigada Ana and Lisboa!
We were so pleased with this apartment. In a great neighborhood, close to shops and transportation, we really enjoyed the area. Easy to walk to major sights or a short taxi ride.
The aprtment was really lovely. It was very clean and the bed comfortable. The wifi was excellent and the tv had plenty of English options. the kitchen was complete, although we didn't really cook, too many great restaurants to visit. Having the pastry shop across the street and grocery store around the corner was very convenient.
Helena, who met us, was great. She explained everything and was kind enough to arrange an early morning taxi for us when we left.
If available, rent this apartment, you will not be disappointed! This was our first experience with Home Away and it was completely positive. We hope to rent this apartment again in the future!
