Sobre esta propriedade

Welcome to Marshview North in Moody Beach

WELCOME TO MARSHVIEW NORTH
Our lovely home is a short, 500-yard walk to beautiful, private Moody Beach-- voted one of the best beaches on the East Coast.

Marshview, is a large, two-story duplex, located on a quiet, private road. The Northside Cottage sleeps 7, the Southside of the cottage sleeps 6. (See rental #228516 for south side .) For large gatherings or groups of more than 7, rent the entire house. With all the amenities it's a great place for vacations, family reunions, wedding stays and so much more.

UPDATES::
Each year we update and redecorate. In 2017, we've employed a nationally known firm to install a new tub and surround in dazzling white with new, hi-tech shower doors. It makes the bath looks fantastic.

A new kitchen stove and microwave completed upgrades for 2016. And in 2017 we added a dishwasher! We think you'll enjoy these new additions to our cottage. It's important to us that you're happy and comfortable when you're staying at Marshview and reluctant to leave. New living room chairs and a new dishwasher to make your stay more care free.

FIRST FLOOR:
Our large, remodeled fully-equipped kitchen with new countertops and tile backsplashes will fit all of your cooking needs. The kitchen is painted it in soothing, cool shades of blue. The half bath on the first floor has been completely rebuilt with new fixtures and tile floors.
In the spacious living room, you can hear the waves and catch the smell of the sea. We hope this adds to your beach experience. The living room area is furnished with comfortable furniture, lots of pillows, games, TV, DVD, and internet.

SECOND FLOOR:
On the second floor, there are three bedrooms and a full bath. In 2015, we installed new flooring throughout the upstairs, making it easier to keep this area sand free. The refreshing blue walls combined with the mutating light give each room a unique feel.

In the front of the house, there is a large bedroom with three single beds- perfect for kids and adults alike. It’s a prime location to hear the waves crashing against the sea wall one street away. By keeping the windows open it's usually cool enough to need the quilts on the beds or even the blankets that are stored in each closet. On those atypical days when it’s HOT in Maine, there are fans in each closet. The middle bedroom contains two twin beds. The master bedroom is in the back of the house overlooking the lovely Rachel Carson Preserve. Wake up to the sights and sounds of various birds and other wildlife.

DECK & OUTSIDE:
The back deck is a lovely area. It’s a “cool” place to drink your morning coffee or the perfect spot to view the spectacular sunsets. It overlooks the Rachel Carson Sanctuary and Preserve, a thriving habitat for many species migratory birds. So you’ll want to bring your binoculars, camera or your paint/sketch pad. The Preserve is also a great place for canoeing and kayaking.

In Marshview’s backyard, you have your own charcoal grill and picnic table. There is a fire pit and hot & cold outdoor shower that are shared by both sides. The front yard is pleasant, oversized and perfect for playing—but not for parking!

TO START YOU OUT:
To make it easier for our guests when you first arrive, there is a roll of toilet paper in each bathroom, a dish towel and dish cloth, as well as a roll of paper towels. There is also olive oil & vinegar, vegetable spray, salt & pepper, kitchen garbage bags, dish detergent & hand soap. (The only thing I ask is that you leave a note for my housekeeper if you run out, as a courtesy to the next guests.) There are 4 low-slung, sand chairs for your use. We bought a Beach Buggy for you to transport your belongings to beach. Blankets & pillows are provided, but guests must provide their own sheets, towels, etc. and we ask that you respect what's ours!

MOODY BEACH:
Spectacular Moody Beach is a private, sandy beach that provides something for people of all ages and all tastes. It’s a place for surfers and walkers, body surfers, surf casters, kayaker, or for those who just want to enjoy the sun and sea. Its tidal pools are spots where the young can enjoy the water and build their sand creations.
In the evening and the moon is full, the scene of the moon of the ocean is breathtaking. Regardless, the beach is usually lit by bonfires and flood lights to enhance the ocean’s stunning views

WALKING THE BEACH:
The beach is a great place to walk anytime—day or night. Just north of our public right-of-way is a rock jetty. Our grandchildren amuse themselves for hours finding treasures in the rocks, including crabs!! At low tide, you can take a 4-5 mile walk on the beach south, to Ogunquit, the Marginal Way or Perkins Cove.

OCEAN AVENUE VIEWS:
Go out to Ocean Avenue; turn left—i.e. north: Walk or ride your bike and take a 3+mile ride along Ocean Avenue with its breath-taking views of the sea. (Bring your camera.) You might catch sight of the seals basking in the sun on the rocks near Wells Beach. You won’t be disappointed as the sea crashes against the sea wall or draws back to reveal the rock formations that the sea gradually transforms from one summer to the next.

THINGS TO DO:
In the house, we’ve collected pamphlets about emergency services, churches, art galleries, museums, tourist attractions, historical sites, deep sea fishing and whale watch cruises and more. There are golf courses in Wells, York, Kennebunkport and Kennebunk which can accommodate all skill levels of golfers. The Ogunquit Playhouse has been producing professional theatre since 1933 featuring show business and TV legends. It’s an opportunity to see quality, Broadway productions at prices you can afford.
All this information is in a basket on the bottom shelf of the table next to the front door. Relax on the back deck and plan what you like to do next.
OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
MAINE'S COASTLINE:
There’s much to do in addition to going to the beach. Take a ride alone Maine’s beautiful coastline, through its historic fishing villages and towns, meandering roads, antique shops, or art galleries. There are books at the house about the history of Moody Beach and Wells. They weave the history of the Coast, trace it and makes some conclusions about the emergence of the area today. The Destination Guides, that are in the basket near the door, also have activities for children, trolley rides, day trips, deep-sea fishing, whale watching, cruises, lectures, and much more.
There are high-end outlets in Kittery and Freeport--the home of LL Bean--selling everything from housewares to family apparel and accessories. Interesting boutiques feature one-of-a-kind gifts, hand-crafted items, as well as designer jewelry, leather goods and more. You can’t leave Maine without bringing something home with you.

TREAT YOURSELF:
Right up on Route 1, in the same plaza as Hannaford's Supermarket, go to Naviina Day Spa, a full service salon and day spa. (Naviina is derived from Sanskrit meaning new, fresh and modern.) Schedule a massage or facial with Jen. (Tell her the Murphys sent you.) She is exceptional. We literally come up to Maine just for Jen’s massages. Call first--even before you arrive--to ensure you get the appointment you want.

LOBSTA?:
Who would think of coming to Maine without eating a lobster dinner? One of our favorite places for lobster, clam chowder or fish dinners is Fisherman’s Catch, a rustic, friendly, family-owned restaurant off Route 1N on Harbor Rd. on the way to Wells Harbor. There are places where you can buy your lobster already cooked or raw and bring it home to cook or eat. Sometimes, there are festivals in Wells, Ogunquit or surrounding towns which often feature fish fries, lobster bakes, etc. Check in the basket we;ve left, on the bottom shelf of the table right inside the front door, there’s a schedule of events in the front. Find the free Tourist News weekly newspaper which is full of everything that's going on.

FOR ALL PALATES & POCKETBOOKS:
From the ever-crowded Egg & I to the Old Village Inn, That Place in Ogunquit and Barnacle Billy’s in Perkins Cove, Clay Hill, Varano’s, Federal’s and Fisherman’s Catch are just a few of the restaurants we like. Merriland Farm Café offers a fantastic breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner. (This is where the homemade jam we given you is from.) Check the ever-expanding basket. Some people are good enough to leave notes in the sign-in book or cards, menus that give you their picks for great places to eat. There are just too many great places to eat to begin to do them justice here; so, you'll just have to decide for yourself.

RESERVATIONS ACCEPTED
Our home is open from May to October—depending on Nature’s cooperation. See the calendar for current availability.

Spring and Autumn are lovely times of the year. It’s quiet; there are no lines or short wait times. The color of the landscape and sea are different than in the summer, but they are striking and breathtaking. We love being here at all times of the year.

Being in Maine enriches your body, mind and spirit. We hope you'll spend your vacation at our lovely, seaside home!

We try to make Marshview seem as if, as one of our guests says, “your own summer home”. Come and make it yours for a week or two. As I said before, it's important to us that you're happy and comfortable when you're staying at Marshview and reluctant to leave.

Thanks so much,
The Murphy/Brown Family

Pontos positivos: Check-in e localização
Moody Beach
Appeared clean when we arrived…upon further inspection there were some noticeable problems. Coffee pod left in Keurig (we left it there as we didn’t intend to use that appliance, the regular coffee pot had not been wiped off - had streaks of coffee on the outside, black mildew (?) in corners of the bathtub. Nice to have charcoal on hand for the grill, but the grill was filthy. We brought our own sheets and towels as instructed, but seriously, not even a kitchen towel to dry dishes? Bedroom doors were warped enough that they could not be closed. No extra kitchen garbage bags. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean (other than the bathtub issue), kitchen sink and counters seemed clean with a large table, and living room was comfortable with plenty of seating. Puzzles and games were available, though we didn’t use them. Outdoor shower was handy for rinsing off beach sand. Easy access with the back door entry code. Nice back deck.

Cottage review
The property was very clean. Parking was extremely limited. Was very hot there were no air conditioners only fans but they did not help much. We were caught in a unexpected rain storm in York and we’re contacted by Allison they had let the neighbor go into shut the windows and were also told the neighbor took a video. That was unacceptable. Our belongings were all in there. Everything was fine when we got back but felt violated that the neighbor took a video while in the cottage shutting the windows! Will not be re renting.

A nice family getaway
Property is very close to the beach and was described accurately in the listing. Kitchen and some of the kid’s stuff (highchair) weren’t cleaned well. Neighborhood is nice and view of marsh was lovely. Bring bug spray. Only other complaint was that the house is missing a lot of basic amenities like new pots/ pans, grill utensils, etc. We ended up borrowing supplies from a very generous neighbor.

Marshview
We liked this house. It clean and you have all you want in the kitchen except a stove hood. The bedroom, kitchen and living room are spacious. It’s very good if you have many persons with you. The house is near the beach. We appreciate that. Excuse my english Martin

Nice beach getaway
This home was very clean and welcoming and situated on a very quiet street off the main beach road with beautiful views of the marsh. The kitchen was very well stocked. Don't expect to put together a gourmet meal, but you'll have the essentials for lobsters and summertime fare. Having a high chair was a nice plus for us for the little one. The home was just a few blocks walk to the entryway to the beach. Our hosts were very responsive and helpful both leading up to our stay and for questions after we checked in. The only drawback is the fact that this rental is a part of a duplex - depending on who the guests are on the other side - you may or may not experience noise (sound travels and you can hear people walking around the home) and there is little privacy outside the home. Hints: check the tide charts for the time of your stay if you're looking to spend a lot of time at the beach and park at a slight diagonal so that the four cars (total) for both units can get in and out easily. Overall, I would recommend this rental for a peaceful time in Maine.

For a number of years before we bought Marshview, the Murphy/Brown family came to Moody Beach on vacation. Our time here was a delightful respite from our stressful lives. When we would drive over the Portsmouth Bridge, we could feel the stress leave our body, smell the sea air and experience a sense of well-being. Our family loved coming here; we made friends with whom we still maintain ties.
In 1988, we purchased Marshview and that’s when the work began. That first year, every weekend from Thanksgiving to May on Thursday or Friday afternoon, we left New York drove 4-5 hours to Maine to work on the house. Most of the work we did was invisible: we stripped the rooms of layers-upon-layers of wallpaper; rewired the electric; cleaned, cleaned, cleaned; de-cluttered and more; we threw out broken and old furniture; and we never thought our home would be ready to open to guests.
The house was dark inside so we began by painting it light colors to bring the outside—in. Our painting projects have gone through many changes throughout the years as we try to attain the perfect “Cottage Style”.
Decorating has always been more fun than putting on a new roof, rebuilding the subfloor, installing hardwood floors in the living rooms and new kitchen floors, remodeling and replacing everything in bathrooms on both sides of the house—including the floors, walls, ceilings. But these things had to be done, so during the years we’ve done all of these things also.
We love being the owners of Marshview. We’ve met such lovely people and welcomed them and their families to our home and lives. We appreciate hearing about their stays. We hope you will join us too.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

WHY STAY AT MARSHVIEW? In addition to being a lovely, comfortable home only 500 yds. from the beach. Marshview is in a great location. We’re only a trolley ride from Ogunquit with its boutiques, specialty shops, restaurants for all tastes and clubs to enjoy dancing and singing. (Don’t forget to stop at the fabulous & unique “Spoiled Rotten” on Beach St.) There are concerts at Ogunquit harbor.
Take Shore RD. (at the crazy intersection in Ogunquit) toward Perkins Cove, and in addition to tempting eateries there are many art galleries. In Perkins Cove seafood restaurants abound and it’s a port for sight-seeing cruises, deep sea fishing and other activities. There are jewelry designers, potters and other interesting shops.
Drive further south on Route 1, stop in York at the amusement park, the game farm, the taffy store and its historic village. Or travel south for another 30 minutes, you’ll find the Kittery outlets which line both sides of the road. Many people enjoy shopping at the Kittery Trading Post.
North from our house on Route 1 is the Village of Kennebunk and to the northeast is Kennebunkport—two great places to visit. In addition to the beauty of nature and the summer home of George H. Bush, there are art galleries, boutiques, novelty and clothes stores, designer jewelry, potters, and of course—restaurants.
Further north the meandering roads take you through quaint fishing villages, where you antique shops abound. In about 30-40 min., you arrive in Freeport, the home of L.L. Bean and other high-end outlets. It’s an easy town in which to walk around, with lots of rest stops, sidewalk or restaurant food and great shopping. Don’t miss having lobster at Harraseeket Lunch & Lobster Company, located on the beautiful South Freeport waterfront in South Freeport, Maine. It’s a local landmark for natives and visitors alike. This is a “must” for us; we sit outside or inside, enjoy the food and relax with views of the beautiful harbor and watch the boats.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

It’s nice to have all the benefits of home without the hassle. Each year, our family tries to make sure we provide new amenities—both large and small—to add to your enjoyment. We've just added a new bath and dishwasher. We've written about all the great area restaurants, but our kitchen is spacious and a great gathering place for family meals. If you’d like to eat breakfast out, try the Egg & I, Bintliff’s (both on Rt. 1 south toward Ogunquit) or Merriland Farms. Located off Rt. 1 north going toward Kennebunk on Coles Hill Road in Wells, the food is a treat, as is the jam we always leave for our guests as a gift. (There’s also a nice executive golf course there.)
It’s an easy, short walk--only 500 yds.--to the beach—and what a beach it is! It’s private, sandy, family friendly and a gathering center for the neighbors, but there’s always room to find a quiet spot for you and family. The beach is the scene of football, baseball and bocce other games, horseshoes, kit flying, Frisbee contests. There are sand castles, mermaids of all kinds, sand toys and sea shells. (If you don't find the type of shells you want, there are shops in Kennebunkport that have a marvelous assortments of real shells that are sure to satisfy you.)
Just looking at the ocean is a source of respite. Lobster boats, yachts, pleasure crafts, lobster traps, Nubble Lighthouse, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit and Perkins Cove are all visible. (On the Fourth of July, fireworks can be seen from Ogunquit and from Kennebunkport.) Standing in, dodging or riding the waves, surfing, tubing, kayaking, canoeing are some of the activities people enjoy. Others love walking, looking for shells, bike riding, searching for hermit crabs or other ocean treasures.
Walking at dusk on the beach is lovely and peaceful, as well as a great place for a picnic. Take the beach buggy and your chairs--Indulge, extend your day. Finish with a warm outdoor shower and then sleep to the sound of the waves breaking against the shore.
