This was the perfect place to experience a true Hawaiian Get-away. We had a wonderful time staying at the Mokolii Beach House. This house had everything we needed and more. Property was clean and well-maintained. Even with a hurricane near, they kept the yard clean from the ocean debris. Sasha was very helpful and even helped us get a discount at the Kualoa Ranch across the street. The property manager, Debbie, was so helpful too. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We truly felt at home and plan on a return trip. We recommend this home for your next Hawaii trip.
This was our first time to Hawaii. My husband, son (15) and daughter (17) and I wanted a location outside of a big city setting for the bulk of trip. We loaded up at Costco, bought GoOahu passes and headed to the house for 7 nights. The ocean is literally your back and side yard, mountains and Mokolii Island (Chinaman's Hat) are RIGHT there, covered lanai allows you to still be outside if it rains and kitchen is well equipped with everything you need including some basic spices, condiments, etc... Beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear, umbrella, kayaks, floaties on site as well. We didn't need to buy anything except food. Packed lunches each day and cooked most dinners at the house. Not familiar w/ Oahu, we didn't realize that city traffic and few freeways and highways make a trip into the city or opposite side of the island about an hour or more. For us that was OK as most days we headed north to the DOZENS of beaches to snorkel, paddle board and ocean swim. There are some food trucks, restuarants and grocery stores somewhat close, but better to load up with groceries before heading to house. Polynesian Cult Center 15 minutes away, Kualoa Ranch literally across the street (attractions and restuarant), Haleiwa is a cute little town about 40 minutes N with shopping and restuarants. We drove North almost every day to snorkel and explore.
Highway is 2 lane w/ constant cars and the house is RIGHT off the highway. The noise didn't really bother us, but getting in and out of driveway a little tricky at times but doable. There is a rental next door which was empty most nights so beach stretch was litereally private most of the time. Big group in rental the last 2 nights so it was quite lively but again, doable. The property manager lives in converted garage RIGHT behing the house. We adored her, but if you are looking for secluded, this house isn't completely that. AC only in master bedroom so house got stuffy when closed up. Outdoor shower was awesome for hosing off after the beach. Morning coffee on the beach and watching turtle heads pop up here and there was AWESOME! Kayaking to and climbing Mokolii also awesome. Snorkling in the "backyard" pretty good too! If you want super fancy and super secluded, keep looking. If you want homey, comfortable and away from the rat race of Waikiki this IS A GEM. We spent the last 2 nights in a hotel at Waikiki and glad we tried that too but we missed OUR beach house. Fam of 4 fromo Oregon :)
My sister and I took my niece and her best friend after their college graduation this summer! The Mokilii House was ideal for the four of us. We enjoyed many of the ranch amenities and spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach. We can't wait to return for another celebration in the future.
I've read all the positive reviews which I wholeheartedly agree with and decided to write my from a different perspective than most.
My 61 year old husband suffers from an autoimmune disorder affecting his spine. He's had 7 spinal surgeries, 4 of which are rod and screw fusions. He is in pain all the time, varying from 4 to 10 on the Richter scale. Before our flight we spent one night in a Washington State hotel. In the morning his back felt like Polynesian dancers had performed on it all night. The plane ride only worsened matters. It was not a good start. However, the first morning and all subsequent mornings during our 1 week stay at the Mokolii House his pain level was as low as at home on our $4000 bed.
It was reassuring that there was never a moment we felt uneasy anyone would or could break into the house. The front gate is securely locked as is the house itself. No one came up the beach.
While not for everyone, we thoroughly enjoyed the privacy. We gladly traded the Waikiki scantily clad babes for sea turtle babies swimming 20 feet out.
If you can envision awakening each day to the soothing sound of the surf, casually padding into the kitchen for that first cup of coffee all the while being greeted by the pristine blue-green ocean waters through the expansive windows then you're able to see Mokolii House for the treasure it truly is.
My husband and I stayed at the Mokolii Beach House for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Having the sand and ocean literally RIGHT in your backyard is nothing short of Paradise. The house was perfect for us, and stocked with just about everything you can think of. I'd recommend checking out the house before you go grocery shopping. My husband and I got plenty of use out of the kitchen by making every breakfast at the house, and most dinners. Debbie was very welcoming, and a great resource for any questions we had about the house or the island. She even gave me a piece of the aloe plant in her yard to help my nasty sunburn! Sasha was also very accommodating with prompt responses to email, and thoughtful answers to any questions we had.
Here are some of the activities we enjoyed on the island, that I would recommend to future travelers:
1) Seriously, just spend a day at the house! Put on your favorite music (there's a nice bluetooth speaker - we did this just about every day!), and just relax!
2) You have to take one of the kayaks out (there are 2 singles and 1 tandem). Chinaman's hat is a quick, easy paddle. We packed a cooler and spent the whole afternoon exploring! Just ask Debbie where the best place is to beach the kayak. You can hike to the top, but be prepared with adequate footwear, and know that some paths are better than others.
3) Some of the best snorkeling is at Hanauma Bay. Pure Aloha Adventures has small tours, which I would HIGHLY recommend. Your guide provides all equipment (including float belts for those less comfortable in the water), and teaches you the basics of snorkeling before heading out. The best part was that our guide knew EXACTLY where to look for sea turtles, octopus, eel, etc. We used an entertainment coupon so it was reasonably priced! http://purealohaadventures.com/.
3)Hike up Diamond Head for gorgeous views! We saw people of all ages that could manage this hike. Just bring water and sunscreen, and a good pair of shoes!
4) For the adults who like to party: do a booze cruise! We did one of Tom Barefoot's Tours, a sunset cruise on the Holokai Catamaran, and it was a blast! https://www.tombarefoot.com/things-to-do-in-hawaii/island/oahu/3.
5) Kualoa Ranch. The other reviews have pretty much said it. Highly recommend!
6) Take a day to explore the north shore! We stopped at several beaches (Malaekahana State Recreation Area & Goat Island, Turtle Bay, Banzai Pipeline, Waimea Valley & waterfall).
Sasha, Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us :)
The beach house was exactly like it looks in the pictures, except the Sunrises are Absolutely Amazing...more than you can imagine! The house is clean, has a well stocked kitchen all you need is the food, ample indoor space, lots of electronics we did not even use and plenty of linens. Unfortunately we did not spend much time in the house, the lanai is large with plenty of comfortable seating and the beach is a few steps beyond that! There are lots of extras for the beach and water but if you don't like rocks bring your water shoes.
Simply Gorgeous location! We could not have asked for a more perfect vacation..... We will be back :)
