I loved the location and space in this home but I was extremely disappointed in the difficulties we had while staying there. First off, to get the channel to change on the TV, you had to get up and go to the closet in which the cable box was located - not sure why it wasn't with the TV but it was very frustrating. The owner says this is getting updated but was annoying during our stay. Same deal with both main TVs. The remote for the upstairs bedroom didn't have batteries so we either had to buy them or go without. We went without. The beds, pillows, and bedding all had stains which were kind of gross. The bedding was clean but you could see that they were not taken care of. Costco has sheet sets for $40 and pillows for about $20 so this would have been a cheap investment to make the place look nicer. Also, you have to launder all of the towels prior to leaving. This is a huge inconvenience - There were 10 of us in the house and I spent all morning of our last day there washing towels because everyone needed to shower before leaving. I have never stayed in a place where this was required. My biggest complaint, however, was that the oven didn't work. We specifically rented this home for the nice, up to date kitchen because we were having Thanksgiving dinner at the house and were hoping to cook some meals ourselves while in Chicago. We ordered a ton of food and ended up having to cook everything in the microwave. The owner offered to move us to a different house on Thanksgiving but that would have been even more of an inconvenience since we were leaving 2 days after that and would have to pack up all the food for the move. I mentioned to the owner prior to our stay that we would be cooking Thanksgiving dinner at the house and were really excited about the kitchen so this should have been checked prior to our arrival. Nothing was done to compensate us for this HUGE inconvenience. I was in tears - our Thanksgiving dinner that we spent so much money on was more or less ruined.
I really had hoped that I could give this place 5 stars but honestly, I cannot do so until some updates are made because others should not have to deal with this when you are paying this much to stay at a vacation rental. I am a landlord myself and I would not have rented out this place without ensuring that everything was working and clean.
We had a family of 8 adults in Chicago for the marathon. It was great to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet close enough to catch the Train to downtown. Everyone had enough room to spread out or to all gather to watch football or eat meals. Neighborhood has all you need - grocery store, park, liquor store and restaurants all within walking distance. Owners were very prompt in answering any emails and questions we had. Would highly recommend and hope to return.
The house was in nice condition with a few nicer features such as the master bath. We stayed there as a larger group and were able to lounge and sleep comfortably.
The threatening note in the master bath that a previous reviewer mentioned in 2013 is still there and visible as the "access panel that is under repair" (per the owners reply) is apparently still undergoing a massive renovation. When we arrived the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes and the coffee maker was still full of used grounds. The kitchen is not very well appointed with cookware so if you plan on preparing meals for more than a couple people you may want to bring your own. There was also a limited supply of toilet paper and paper towels. Not big complaints but still something that should not happen with a well managed rental.
The house is relatively close to the brown line but I would not recommend staying here if you wanted to tour the city and use public transit to get around as it is a long ride. There is only one parking space in the back of the house and limited on street parking in front so renters with more than one car may have to park a distance away.
Overall it was a good experience and a decent neighborhood but a little effort on managements part could have made the stay even better.
We were a group of 10 family members, including a 1 year old, in Chicago for a family reunion. This house worked out perfectly for our needs. It is very nicely appointed with comfortable furniture and large rooms. We never felt crowded. The location could not be better for getting around Chicago on the brown line. The station is just around the corner from the house. Also Lincoln Square with many eateries and shops is just about a 15 minute walk away. And a grocery store is out the front door and a couple minutes walk for essentials. No need for a car at all. The owner provides very detailed instructions for arrival and departure. The key pad entry was very convenient as we did not have to worry about keys for everyone. I highly recommend this place for a group of people. It is in a great area of Chicago.
Just as the pictures illustrate, this house is attractively appointed and comfortable to "hang out" in. One special attraction was one of the showers with 3 shower heads and a steamer. The house was very convenient to access the Chicago train system. We never used our car after arriving nor did we need to taxi. The key code access requires a quick hand to punch in the numbers before it times out but we always gained access. The beds are modest compared to other amenities in the house but there are spare pillows of all sizes and extra blankets. Be sure to start washing the towels early on your departure date because the dryer was small. I would recommend this house to family, friends or another small group event in Chicago.
This was a Great place to stay.....we had a girls weekend and started with the Fleetwood Mac concert. We met at this beautiful, spacious house on Thursday late after noon. 12 of us stayed the first night and there was PLENTY of living space for all of us. We even had a lasagna dinner on Friday, brought from home but had a set table with wine glasses, silverware and nice dishes for 12 before 4 left later Friday night. The bathrooms are beautiful, the Master shower amazing and 2 sitting rooms that gave lots of space.
The owner was extreamily helpful and even the lower tenant was so sweet when we had to wake her up very late Thursday night when we locked ourselves out after the concert....do not ever turn the dead bolt on the back door....our fault!
This would be an awesome place to rent during the holidays with family and see the city. Very short walk to the brown line, Lincoln square was so cute and we even walked the cute down town Andersonville, which was like being in a little Michigan city.
Highly recommend this house!
