If you are looking for a resort style experience...this is not your place. However, if you enjoy the laid back lifestyle of living in quiet place with great beachfront access and maybe a total of 5 people on the beach, this is for you.
Nice and breezy cottage with two bedrooms. Fans vs a/c, but that's how you live aloha. Mokuleia is a quiet community with no services...you head into Waialua and Haleiwa for food and drink. Very functional place and incredibly nice people who live here on the property. Some of our best vacation highlights came from morning coffee and conversations with them ( you stay here, you will know their names..).
Daily snorkeling and swimming offshore, but remember that north shore waves are quite big in winter.
Highly recommend this spot to those who enjoy the aloha lifestyle and north shore vibe.
Property was consisted with description/photographs/reviews. Think family/friends cottage on the ocean. Nothing fancy, but very clean and well maintained. Lori's parents are lovely Oahu long time residents who live in the cottage adjacent and can chat as much or as little as you like about the area and life in Hawaii. Location super - very quiet "country" area, with good running options down quiet country roads but only a short drive to Haleiwa, a fun little surf town. Cottage is about 150 feet back from ocean, you can see a peekaboo view of the water from the cottage deck, but better to walk across the lawn and sit on the common property outdoor deck area and look at the water over the hedge. Beach is accessed through a gate and you can walk for hours along the shorefront beach which starts with cottages and then fronts some parkland. We were there in late October - quite wavy at that time of year so we didn't really swim but super enjoyed the surf and atmosphere. You can drive 15-30 minutes to easier swimming/snorkeling beaches and the "big wave" surf beaches. Pretty much everything you would need in the cottage, including cooking utensils and beach gear although knives a bit on dull side (we always take one along so no big deal) and bathroom towels could do with an update. We are from Vancouver so super snobbish on sushi but gave a thumbs up for Banzai Sushi bar at the Marketplace mall in Haleiwa, Haleiwa Beach House on the main road out to beaches for good craft beer and appetizers at sunset, and Café Haleiwa a local spot for breakfast. Provisioned at the local health food store and Haleiwa supermarket in town as well as at Foodland out on the highway for more superstore type choice. Beer and wine store next to Cafe Haleiwa was superb - they opened up on request for us and had a great craft beer and fine wine selection. All in all, loved the Haleiwa vibe and this lovely little decompress beach getaway.
Could not have imagined a better experience for me and my 2 boys
This was a great place to stay. Pros: On the beach (sea turtles were so great!), away from traffic, close to town. Con: No air conditioning
My family and I rented this home in Jan 2016 and it was great. It was quiet, relaxing, and the beach was only across the back yard.
Just bring a pair of goggles to the water and you will see loads of pretty fish and a few sea turtles. You can also watch surfers as well.
We are former Hawaii residents and visit the Islands regularly. Preferring to stay in condos or cottages, this is one unit that definitely meets our desires.
Peace and quiet is the greatest attribute for this property. Located off the beaten path, on the beach in Waialua, the beauty and quiet is perfect for unwinding and relaxing. Sleeping in and then waking to the sound of the ocean waves and chirping birds will bring a smile to your face.
The unit itself is well-equipped with all of the owner-listed amenities. The grounds, like the unit itself, is maintained nicely. The outdoor hot shower and toilet are a nice touch, especially after time on the beach out back or swimming. Access to the beach is through a gate in the backyard. The beach is very nice...perfect for a nice walk by the water, swimming, or snorkeling. Of course, caution must be used if the surf is high.
Sunsets are easily and wondrously viewed while lounging on lawn chairs at the end of the day.
Local activities we did include snorkeling (on site and also at Shark's Cove), hiking, stand-up paddle boarding (Surf and Sea), and a biplane ride from nearby Dillingham airfield.
Haleiwa town is fun with various other activities. The farmers market on Saturday in Waialua is awesome.
Finally, the review would not be complete without acknowledgement of our on-site hosts who were very gracious and a pleasure to visit with. Aloha, until our next visit.

There are two houses on the property. The rental house is closer to the road with an ocean view from the patio. My parents live in the main house closest to the beach. They are friendly and quiet people who putter in the yard and sometimes have friends over for dinner. The two houses are close together and some renters feel like they're "in" my parents' space when they use the "common" areas like the grill, outdoor shower, yard, etc. Please don't feel this way. My parents are used to having renters and it doesn't bother them so don't let it bother you. However, both my parents and my neighbors would appreciate quiet after 9:00 p.m. We do not allow parties, weddings or camping. Check-in is 4:00 PM, check-out is 11:00 AM.
The house will be reserved for you as soon as the $500 security deposit is received. The $500 deposit will be returned 14 days after you leave (minus any damage to the property or extra cleaning fee for excessive amount of sand left in the house). The "subtotal" (daily rate + taxes + cleaning fee) is due 30 days before your arrival date. If today's date is less than 30 days from your arrival, the "total" amount is due ($500 security deposit + subtotal). Once I receive your $500 security deposit, I will email a standard rental agreement. I ask that you sign and date the agreement and return it to me. After I received the signed agreement, I will email instructions on how to get the key for the house, general information letter about the house, restaurant and sightseeing suggestions, and directions to the house from the airport.
Let me know if you would like to see a copy of the rental agreement. Lori
