I write "experience" because that is what this is...you will truly feel as if you have left reality and gone to heaven! The house is gorgeous, and the location is UNBEATABLE. You are literally in the heart of town and hear the horse drawn carriages plip plop outside your bedroom window.
In addition, the owner is kind and so quick in responding to any questions.
I CANNOT recommend this house enough!!!
Loved the house. Great history. Great library of books. All 8 of us read a number of the art and history books. Walked to town every night for ice cream or lobster roll! We went whale watching, sailing and fishing. The house had everything we needed ... Thanks Heyward. The owner was always accessible and wiling to make sure we had whatever we needed.
This is a wonderful property- beautifully maintained and decorated, with amenities that one would expect and need. The owners have done an excellent job of making this feel like one's own vacation home. They are extremely responsive and attentive. Kennebunkport offers many activities- the beach, antiquing, great restaurants, etc.
We are a family of 4 (2 adults-2 toddlers) so this place fit our needs perfectly . Great location, you could walk to everything in town. The neighbors were helpful and friendly too! A small beach-Colony Beach, is in walking distance, under a mile. A few other beach areas are close by too but we preferred to drive to those due to the kids. The inside of the home was well appointed. You really didn't need to bring a thing! We did not rent the guest house because we didn't need the room, but what a great idea for those that need a little extra space. Overall the property was clean and well maintained. The owners were very easy to work with and provided a wealth of information prior to our stay. Inside the house everything is labeled so no guessing on how to turn on lights, operate TV's etc. The kitchen had every tool, pot, dish, glass you would ever need! There is a small nook in the kitchen if you would like to sit there for meals but also a larger dining area-dining room if you have more guests. The home is almost 200 hundred years old, so keep that in mind. The home in not an open concept type home if that is what you are looking for. But plenty of rooms to relax in. The upstairs has two large bedrooms with very nice furniture and linens. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with tub/shower combo. The master bedroom has a sitting/dressing room as well. Very large space overall. The property is beautiful. Very cute backyard and sitting areas. At night the lights come on and accent the beautiful pergola. We look to rent a house each summer for vacation and this is a place we would return to! Can’t beat the location! Thanks so much for the great vacation!
Fall, winter, summer or spring - the Oliver Davis House is special. Immaculate, comfortable beds, spotless bathrooms, and beautiful gardens keep us going back with family and friends again and again. This is a home that is clearly loved by its owners who want to share its beauty and comfortable elegance with others. Perfectly located, it offers historic charm, every ammenity, and room to spread out between the house and its lovely carriage house. Although only a two minute walk to village shops, or to restaurants in historic Dock Square, it is quiet and private under stately Elm trees with only the clip-clop of the horse and carriage passing by. The hydrangea garden is open and spectacular or you can retreat with a book to the hammock in a hidden rock garden boarded by espalier dwarf apple trees. The hydrangea garden lends itself to casual summer cookouts on the grill or you can pick up your steamed lobsters at Port Lobster down the way for a lobster dinner. In winter, have your cocktails in front of the fire before a seated dinner party and watch it snow. The kitchen is equipped for the most particular foodies.
If you are into antiques the shops are endless but don't miss the flea market every Saturday on Log Cabin Road. In summer spend the day on the nearby beach with a picnic and return home for a nap in sheer comfort then go have a cocktail on the porch at the Colony Hotel and watch the sun set. The choices for dinner are endless. In Fall the house offers a cozy warm retreat after crisp days at New England fairs, historic house tours, and maybe even kayaking out to Goat Isand.
Our guess - if you go once, you'll go back again!
This was our second stay at this home in Maine and we absolutely love it. The home is wonderfully maintained and provides a great vacation getaway. My wife and I bring our 3 young children and our mother-in-law, and the home accommodates us perfectly. Walking distance to the beach and even closer to town. The home oozes history yet impeccable. The furniture and decor make you feel right at home. The owner has put together a wonderful packet of things to do and places to see. We travel frequently--but this is the trip we always look forward to. Couldn't come with a higher recommendation!!
