Town: The delightful village of Otterburn is an incredibly tranquil little place, but this was once the site of the famous 1388 Scottish victory over the English. As the former home of a thriving weaving industry, the town was once known for the world famous Otterburn Mill, an integral part of the settlement's past. Close to the banks of the River Rede and situated between the hills and moors of the North Tyne Valley there are numerous excellent walking facilities in the area as well as a popular Coast-to-Coast route for cyclists. The beautiful Kielder Forest and Waters are close by as is the Roman construction of Hadrian's Wall, both of which are worth visiting. The area also provides fantastic fishing, horse riding and nature watching amidst superb, tranquil countryside.
