Vielen Dank!
"Beautiful converted barn with private pool, in peaceful setting." Sums it up. Wonderful house which was very well equipped with plenty of space and set in immaculate gardens. Delightful owners were very helpful throughout. Pool is a great asset with the enclosed courtyard giving both privacy and shade if required. Our family had a great time and we'd recommend it to everyone. Thank you.
We were a party of two adults and two 18 year olds. We found the barn light, airy with a very well equipped kitchen. The pool area was lovely and well appreciated by the boys. The barn is in an attractive setting with a very helpful owner nearby. The coast is easy to get to and the nearby towns, Saintes and St Jean d'Angely have a good range of restaurants. Lots of leisure activites too for the active minded. Would go back.
This is an absolutely wonderful property and perfect for young children. The large garden provides plenty of open space for toddlers to run around and explore, while the small private garden, draped with vines and fragrant with lavender, provides a smaller area to play – complete with a swing, a trike and a wheelbarrow!
The barn itself has been renovated to a very high standard and comes equipped with every utensil you can think of. Our welcome pack was plentiful and even included a chilled bottle of bubbly – a lovely touch! For babies and toddlers there is a cot, a stair gate, a booster seat for the kitchen table, a toddler-proof gate to the swimming pool and even plastic plates and cutlery. There is also a good selection of toys and books for all ages.
The swimming pool is beautiful: very clean and private with plenty of inflatable toys provided to keep the little ones happy!
You could be forgiven for not moving from the property for a week or two, and apart from an initial shop at one of the local supermarkets, there really is no need. The fresh bread and croissants delivered each morning by the local baker is such a nice touch and very handy!
The beach at Saint Palais is wonderful and very child friendly and the small electric boats at Saint-Savinien provide a great day out.
Our hosts were extremely welcoming and very knowledgeable about the local area and further afield.
A beautiful, rural location and a great base from which to explore the Charente region. A car is essential.
A beautiful, modern, well-maintained converted barn with an enclosed private swimming pool and extensive and charming gardens. Ideal if you have one or two active school age children who like to swim. Located in a quiet hamlet, so no nightlife within walking distance, and a car is essential. Convenient for visiting Cognac, Saintes (with its Roman amphitheatre) and the charming market town of Saint-Jean d'Angely, where it costs 4 Euro for a dozen oysters. Altogether one of the nicest places we have ever stayed.
We were looking for somewhere to escape from the world for a while, and this is definitely it! The hamlet is very quiet, and from the front door you can walk or cycle for miles through sunflower fields and vineyards. Cycles are provided and were perfectly comfortable for the use we made of them - going out for a picnic, or to the local tennis court.
The swimming pool is wonderful, clean and very private. We were disappointed that the current thingy did not work while we were there, but Nick has since re-assured us that it is working now.
The barn itself is very spacious on the ground floor, with a lovely long dining table. Everything was very clean when we arrived. Outside is a little private garden, full of lavender and herbs, a lovely place to have breakfast or lunch. There is also a larger garden, the owners', which you are welcome to share.
Upstairs is a bit smaller, but as there are only 2 of us that didn't matter.
Good shops were a short distance away by car, but when we arrived the welcome pack was very helpful.
We could not have been made more welcome, we had all the privacy we wanted but the owners were there to help if needed.
If you are looking, as we were, for the typical rural french idyll - small hamlet, buy your baguette from a lady who comes round in a van and leaves it hanging on the gate, take an evening stroll through fields of sunflowers, soak up the sun with a pool that is private and because of the high walls around it has just the right combination of sun and shade, then this is for you. We will definitely be going back.
