My in-laws and I stayed at the Martin House over Christmas and it was fantastic. We had easy walks to parks, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars; the house was gorgeous, huge, and clean, with lots of comfortable places to sit and relax; and Jeannette checked in frequently by text to make sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend the Martin House to anyone looking for a home away from home in Lexington.
If you want to stay right in the middle Lexington, this is the house for you. We loved being so close to the restaurants and within walking distance to the University of Kentucky. The house was very comfortable and we loved the plate of chocolate chip cookies that was waiting for us. This house has tons of character but also has all the modern conveniences. We enjoyed the grill in the backyard and the back porch area. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to explore Lexington.
The Martin House was a great venue for our team to stay in while in Lexington. We were part of a conference at the Lexington Convention Center. The location was perfect for walking to and from LCC. The home was in a great position to hit up local restaurants. There were 7 team members (2 being married), and there were plenty of spaces for us to sleep comfortably. The common areas allowed us to spend time together and building relationships. The home has a lot of character and charm. Even with some of the quirkiness, we were perfectly comfortable and would recommend to families or corporate teams looking for a place to stay near Rupp Arena or LCC.
The home is a large older home in the heart of downtown. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs with a shared bath (tub). There is a bath/shower on the ground floor. The owners of the home couldn't of been more friendly and helpful. They sent us suggestions for entertainment and dining which was very useful. They were even kind enough to have a plate of chocolate chip cookies waiting for our arrival. The house was filled with supplies that normally you must go and buy yourself in a self catering home such as laundry detergent, kitchen supplies, etc. I was very impressed. If you are expecting 5 star accommodations/furnishings you have to remember the house is probably over 100 years old. However there was a lounge/tv room on both the ground floor and in the upstairs. The tv had more channels then I have at home! The beds were also comfortable. Parking can be a challenge especially if you have more then 2 cars. Parking is in the very back and is down a very narrow drive. Be aware if you have problems walking up steep steps there isn't a bedroom on the ground floor so you might want to think twice. Since that was not an issue for us we had a wonderful time.
The Martin House is a lovely home in a beautiful area. We enjoyed the variety of interesting restaurants within walking distance.
There are a couple of things a renter should be aware of - the residence is on a busy street with a lot of traffic noise all night long. If you're noise sensitive, be sure to bring ear plugs. I ended up using ear buds connected to a white noise app on my iPhone.
Another concern are the steep steps going upstairs. My friends and I are all in our late 60s and some of us had trouble climbing up and down.
Again, the house was lovely - comfortable beds, screened-in porch, cozy living room, great location, accommodating owners.
Great property. The cookies upon arrival were a very nice touch and the house a lot of great charm. Great location and size to spread out and relax while on vacation. Only down side is it is on a busy street and the driveway is very narrow, but we got the hang of it after a couple times.
