Decent Place to Stay

Villa Bliss is an affordable and fine place to stay if you are not looking for anything fancy. The amazing view was why we booked there and it was as good as we'd hoped! Here are a few comments we have about the place:

The loft: It was extremely hot. We were there in mid/late May so this may be a different situation during other times of the year. Here is a tip for cooling it off - Blast the AC (which is downstairs) and put the portable fan on the ledge overlooking the den so that it blows the cooler air from downstairs up over the bed in the loft. Also, we wound up wrestling with the mattress pad every night, as it was old and ripped in many places (and therefore kept slipping off). Also, the main overhead fan was pretty noisy. There are no blinds on the window so the sun wakes you up REALLY early (this was okay by us since we are early risers, anyway).

Bathroom Windows: The cranks were broken so you could not reel the windows in or out. However the bathroom had been remodeled and was quite nice.

Door lock: The door into the house was very challenging to figure out how to lock. We think it may just need oiling.

Kitchen: We think that the dishwasher door is broken. It is very heavy and will fall and bang your shins if you're not careful, as we found out. Also, there are plates, bowls, glasses, mugs and eating utensils but there's not much beyond that. The only chef's knife was really bad with a big notch chipped out of it. The kitchen did not have any casserole dishes or baking sheets so we had to improvise a lot and compromise on what/how we cooked. The grill worked splendidly and we used it quite a bit.

All in all, we had a good time and Villa Bliss met our needs. There is always a trade-off with price and the conveniences.

Great view!

We enjoyed our stay and yes the view was fantastic. The villa was pretty much what we expected after reading other reviews. We had issues with the screen sliders, remotes, and the door lock to the villa itself(the outer door locked no problem). We never did get the glass door to lock I think the handle and lock just need replaced they kind of hang there. The remote to the AC worked but that was the only one. Batteries were not the issue so I think it is the dish satellite and tv programming not being set right. My biggest complaint was the lack of glasses and dishware. On an island that you should conserve water we only had 3 glasses(unless I was drinking wine or champagne for breakfast) and plates and bowls were just as scarce. Not saying don't stay here it is a great location just make sure to rent your four wheel drive and stop by the grocery store for picnic supplies on the way up. We would stay here again.

Accurately pictured and described.

Bliss was nice for our recent stay. Great loft. A/C, grill, Wifi, in working order. Good location, walking distance to Cruz Bay (car still advised for this, or virtually any St. John accommodation) but far enough to be out of the congestion and conducive to relaxation. Those not familiar with Caribbean travel will surely find fault but those familiar will find this to be a nice spot to enjoy St. John.

Good, but needs attention!

Good location. Great view. Private and quiet. Grill was barely operable; burners were corroded. Sliding doors were off track. TV remotes did not work; no batteries. And, no point of contact if we needed assistance. A lot of potential, but lacks attention to detail.

Beautiful villa with the most amazing view!

My husband and I just returned from the most amazing vacation! Villa Bliss was incredible, and had everything we needed and much more! Morning coffee on the deck with the most amazing view was a great start to each day. We spent our afternoons at the pool and evenings on the deck grilling and watching the sunset. The villa was beautiful and equipped with everything we needed. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Om Villas was so helpful and efficient! We are already planning our next trip back to Villa Bliss!!!!

Nice View, but unit in need of work & maintenance

For starters, the units owner lives in Florida, which was a problem on several levels. Mainly because there was no local contact for emergency & maintenance (which was a problem if you read our review). To begin with, after a long day of travel we arrived to a unit that was supposed to be unlocked & have a key waiting inside for us. We were locked out & I called the owner(at $2.00 per minute if you have Verizon) & she didn't answer. Eventually we had to go door to door & knock on neighbors doors for help. Luckily, one of the neighbors had her cell number & was able to leave a couple messages. Then a housekeeper arrived who could get into the lock box to let us in. Only to find out the unit had not been cleaned since the last guests were there. Dishes in the sink, dirty sheets piled up on the couch, dirty floors, counters, bathroom, ect... I helped the housekeeper clean up the unit, I swept while she cleaned. The housekeeper was very nice. The housekeeper said that she could have cleaned up but wasn't aware the unit had been rented, which we felt strange, because we didn't rent last minute. My wife & I were not happy & were refunded $100 after requesting one. We were told it was an internet problem, but they had plenty of time to confirm our stay beforehand. The owner also sent us an email which stated how swiftly she fixed the situation, but on our end it was an uncomfortable/unprofessional 2 hour fix!


Great view


- Both screen doors were off the tracks when we arrived & this was not fixed during our 8 day stay which would have been nice.

- Spiral staircase and very small, cramped bedroom, stained mattress.

- Very steep driveway with lots of potholes & a scary blind turn.

- Toilet had a terrible odor coming up from sewer lines.

- Door handle & lock need replaced, nearly impossible to lock in under 5 minutes!

- A bird has a nest in the outdoor laundry room & swoops at you if you get near it.

- There are ants in the kitchen, bedroom & bathroom, come out of floor molding.

- We ran out of water the last 20 hours of our stay & emailed for help, although we were not emailed back till after we had to leave for the airport (without showers). I had to get buckets of water from the pool shower to dump into the top of the toilet to flush. She refused to refund us for this.

- Gas grill has seen better days, interior is deteriorating.

- Odorous water we only drank bottled water.

-Remotes didn't work

We wouldn't stay here again!

Resposta do proprietário: We do appreciate reviews however this review is not exactly accurate. There was a discrepancy in the calendar so the cleaning lady did not see someone was coming in. It was human error, these things happen occasionally. Nevertheless, as soon as the guests' call was received, it was responded to right away (total of 15 minutes wait time) and we has someone up there to unlock the door (with her own keys) within 20 minutes. We have been in business for over 10 years renting villas and this is a very quick response time, especially on a Sunday evening at 8 pm. Regardless of our company being based out of FL, there would be no faster response time even if we had been on the island. It was not the neighbors call that we responded to, it was the guests' call, they just didn't allow any time before going around knocking on doors. We do have an agent on island who is available at all times. We spoke with the cleaning lady that very night who told us everything was clean (sheets as well) but she just had not made up the bed. Also, it was not "dishes in the sink" it was a single vase which the cleaning lady uses to put fresh flowers in for each check in. Since she did not know there was a check in that evening she had simply not yet made the bed nor put fresh flowers out. We emailed the guest the very next morning to again apologize and offered them $100 refund for the inconvenience. We then received this response: "Dear Liz, Thank you for crediting us $100, we feel that is fair. Today we put yesterday behind us & had a fantastic time. Thank you! Ron & Laura Rittle". The next thing we heard was the morning of departure that they did not have water, to which we responded right away asking if the power had gone out. The power had gone off island wide for a short time during the night and when this happens the pump has to be primed in order to get the water flowing again. -Toilet odor was not brought to our attention until after the guest left and it was just the filters needing to be changed. -Water is derived from the rain on STJ and collected in a cistern under the house. -Nothing wrong with door handle and lock, these are hurricane impact doors and the handle is just "different" it needs to be pulled up in order to lock and there are written instructions in the villa. -Remotes work just fine. -We enjoy the wild life on the island. -We do exterminate frequently but it is an island and there will be bugs. -Looking at screen door and gas grill.
