I will remember the Potoo Tree House forever! Great place for a unique rainforest experience. We saw Toucans, poison dart frogs and morphos butterflies. The road there is an experience in itself and definitely requires four wheel drive. Randy was quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had and offered a great restaurant recommendation.
My girlfriend and I had one of the best vacations at the Potoo Treehouse. The pictures can't capture what it's like to wake up to the many birds and sunrise over the mountains, with the ocean view in the distance and perfect sunsets over the water. I was concerned with no A/C, as I get hot easily, but we were away most of the day (when it's the hottest) doing activities in Quepos, Domincal, Uvita, Manuel Antonio, etc. When we got home at night, we opened all of the doors and everything quickly cooled down by the time we went to bed. It's about a 10-15 minute, bumpy drive(need 4x4) up and down the mountain, but the elevation offers you the cool breeze and amazing views. During our stay, we saw many kinds of colorful birds, Toucans, butterflies, dart frogs, monkeys and more all from the balcony or walking on the property.
If anyone isn't ok with bugs, this may not be the place for you. The Treehouse is definitely in the rainforest and there will be bugs. However, they weren't annoying like mosquitoes or gnats. I did let out many grasshoppers, moths, butterflies and more. Just make sure you don't have all the lights on when the doors are open at night.
As other reviews have mentioned, the worst part about the Treehouse is having to leave at the end of your trip. We will hopefully be coming back soon.
The property was exactly as pictured. The view was breathtaking, the wildlife was awesome (toucans in our trees every morning) A bonus was the downstairs, w/ soaking pool. Rodney was attentive and helpful with anything we needed. **YOU MUST HAVE A 4WD VEHICLE TO STAY AT THIS PROPERTY**
Staying in this magical place was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. We woke up to the sounds of toucans in the trees all around us- truly a one of a kind experience. The treehouse itself is beautifully appointed with a kitchen, a rainwater shower, comfortable bed and beautiful woodwork- plus, a dip pool below us with an incredible view out to the Pacific coastline where you can see all of the islands that dot the coastline. Think deluxe Bali treehouse in the rainforest canopy.
Wow. Just wow. The best way I can describe the Manu Tree House, is by telling what happened when we got there. My wife and I were on our honeymoon, and couldn't have picked a better place. We drove up the road through jungles like we'd never seen before, to the parking spot at the top of the hill at Manu Villas. Walking through the property we were in awe, first passing through the Balinese gates, by the infinity pool, and the Manu Villas main house. Then we crested the hill and saw the Treehouse, seemingly perched over the rainforest, and my wife was literally in tears it was so beautiful. The Treehouse is huge, gorgeous, historic, and in an unbeatable location. It's I think 700 feet in elevation, so stays nice and cool year round, so don't be worried about lack of AC. The drive up the property is fun (steep, but easily doable in 2WD). The jungle surrounding the property is beautiful. The grounds of the property are amazing (two other villas are on the same grounds, but in the Treehouse you don't really see either and feel totally isolated, as they're quite a distance away). The Treehouse itself is amazing - wraparound deck around the entire house, great kitchen, spa-style bath, huge greatroom/bedroom. Alex and Grace, I can't say enough about - incredible hosts (and Pepito, the monkey!) Very interesting hosts that quickly became friends throughout our stay not only at the Treehouse but throughout our stay in Costa Rica. And, Grace is an incredible cook/chef! The bottom floor of the Treehouse is like a private spa - with a large soaking tub, massage tables, Balinese lounge furniture, it's just magical. Get a massage from Grace as well - she's a master of many trades! Our mornings were spent at the Treehouse, afternoons on the beaches of Dominical & Uvita, and always back up the hill to the Treehouse for sunset cocktails on the deck before home cooked meals for dinner. And the ocean views - incredible. You can hear the surf from throughout the house. Tucans, monkeys, tons of wildlife surround you. Can you tell how much we loved the Treehouse??? My wife and I travel internationally 2-3 times/year, staying in premium villas, and this ranks up at the top! Thank you Alex & Grace for providing such a special sanctuary, a Costa Rican experience worth the trip! Thank you again - Mike & Denise Whitten!
(We actually stayed March 2012 but the calendar wouldn't let me go back that far.)
Words can't describe the wonderful time we had there. The views from atop the mountain looking at the ocean were breathtaking and the ways the villas looked were nice too, they keep the place in great shape. The owners were spectacular, we really enjoyed them! While staying at the Manu Villas we went into town everyday (you can't stay at the villas without renting a car), the life there was pleasant. We went to the beach a couple of days, we also went to Canyo island to scuba dive, I would recommend the company Mad about Diving. We weren't certified but they took us to the pool the day before so we could go out on their adventure. The company is owned by a company who genuinely cares about their business and it shows. We also went ziplining and four-wheeling on the beach. While at the villa Grace made us dinner a couple nights, she is an excellent cook! You can't stay at Manu without having her cook for you!
This is a place we would definitely stay again! So glad we experienced the Manu Villas!
