We spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Villa Rosa. It is one of the best apartments we have ever stayed in. We chose it for its location - its proximity to a number of sites of interest to classical historians: Epidavros (the ancient theatre and the Asklepeion), Mycaenae, Corinth. It was also possible to visit sites such as Olympia as well as the delightful Nauplio. The nearby village of Achaia (or Palaia) Epidavros is very attractive and has bakers, butchers and fishmongers, in addition to many restaurants. The apartment is wonderfully spacious, with a very large bedroom with room to spread out - and you can also enjoy the view through the French doors. The living/dining/kitchen area is equally spacious, with room to relax and indulge oneself. The high stud adds to the feeling of spaciousness. There is a large dining table and the kitchen has lots of crockery, utensils, etc. The fridge was very adequate, with no requirement for a freezer, as part of the joy was to buy fresh food every day. The bathroom was okay with a good size shower enclosure. The terrace was spectacular with its garden and the views out to the sea and along the coast. It was peaceful and quiet, and we were very sorry when it was time to leave. The host, Gil, was helpful and keen to ensure that all went well, and went above and beyond the call of duty, in helping with any question we had. We will forever remember his contribution to our European travels. It is the people, as much as the places, that one remembers, long after returning home.
journey = first week of september 2009
- advantages : beautiful place, well maintained (there is a gardener), pleasant villa, big rooms elegantly furnished, Gil is very efficient and reactive
- disadvantages : the fridge is too small for 3 person, no freezer, few kitchenware
Villa Rosa is a subject of poems written in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is so picturesque and enjoyable.
I expected a beautiful view, but it turned out to be absolutely breath-taking. I knew that we would have a great holiday, but we found ourselves in nirvana.
Many thanks to the owner!
The apartment is convenient and can be used by a family of 4. We recommend to visit the famous Theater (at 8 in the morning we were alone there!), Palamedi fortress at Nafplio, sights at Argos, Tyrinth and Mikenae.
The description is accurate. The personnel of the swimming pool at the hotel Aristotelis asked seven euro per person, which can be tough. The beach in June was quiet, especially early in the morning. The village center is in 3 km. Don't forget to get a map of Epidavros and find the sunk city. It is very close to the water surface, so no special experience in diving is needed. We were aware about our exposure to the sun, but with the sunk city we forgot about everything. Be careful about the sun in the middle of the day.
Take care and be happy at this paradise!
We had a lovely honeymoon at the Villa Rosa in April 2009.
The apartment is brilliant, with everything you would expect in a normal home. Little things like the washing machine and cooking-utilities made things so much easier. It's all very spacious, clean and comfortable, and has a good amount of privacy. The terrace is great for some sun and peace, and Epidavros is a lovely little fishing village just down the road, with some great cafes and restaurants, and enough grocery shops to keep you going. There's also a nice beach at the bottom of the hill which was nice and quiet and relaxed whilst we were there.
A car/moped/bicycle is probably a good thing as the trip through the orange groves into/back from the village, whilst lovely, can take a while. Luckily for us, Gil & Judy were excellent hosts and went totally out of their way to accommodate us and make sure we had the best holiday we possibly could, but at the same time weren't at all intrusive.
Two must-sees whilst there are the Ancient Theatre nearby and Nafplio (esp. the views from Palamidi Fortress), a brilliant little town not too far away.
All-in-all it was a great holiday, nice and warm, peaceful, with very comfortable, affordable accommodation and the freedom to do as much or as little as you like.
Thanks Gil & Judy
I highly recommended this 3bed villa because:
- wheelchair friendly (my daughter loved it)
- the description of the villa was totally accurate
- it is a high standard property and it was very clean and well presented
- the owner's representative was very helpful and lives next door
- the nearest beach is not sand, so you need to go a little bit further to
find a sand beach
- the view from the property is wonderful
